EMU finalized their roster with an announcement on this official website. Their JUCO signee and three D1 transfers make up the class of 2020. The landed a good one in Holy Cross transfer Drew Lowder, and they're hoping that at least one of the big men transferring down from the high major ranks is able to make an impact this coming season. The Eagles are top heavy, with 8 seniors, 2 juniors, and no true freshmen. emueagles.com/news/2020/8/3/mens-basketball-mens-hoops-add-three-more-to-2020-21-roster.aspx

EMU dropped their opener last week against MSU, 83-67. The Eagles only had eight players available, but actually put up a pretty good fight.
Reason for eight players? See this: "EMU coach Rob Murphy said the Eagles had a manager test positive and had to play without 6 players and a coach (who had the scout) due to contact tracing. Guys out included 3 centers that are key to defense and rebounding."
EMU put four guys in double figures against the Spartans. Next up for George Gervin's school is Toledo on December 4.

Interesting difference between Murphy's answer and our press release cancelling 3 games: The positive test came about from a member of the support staff and that individual is not experiencing any symptoms and is now in quarantine. No other players or coaches have tested positive, although a few members of the team are in isolation due to contact tracing. One team plays with 8 players. I wonder how many we had in quarantine?

The Eagles picked up their first D1 win of the season yesterday, beating a pretty good Akron team 71-59. EMU put five guys in double figures. They are currently 3-3 overall, 1-2 in conference.

The Eagles have been hit hard by Covid-19 issues, but this season is a bad one by any measure. Today's game was postponed, and the Eagles are currently 4-8, 1-7. They probably would have lost at Ohio today anyway.
Will the Eagles make a coaching change this year? Quite possibly. Coach Murphy has had an ample opportunity. The fans are calling for a change, but we'll see how the pandemic impacts those kinds of decisions this off season.

Funny, before I read your post--just seeing a post in the EMU thread--the thought ran through my mind: "Prediction: Rob Murphy is fired after the season ends." He's had a couple solid teams but never got over the hump, and now the trajectory seems down. He's been there 10 years. But EMU is another tough job--Murphy's at least kept them competitive most years. We'll see.

He had some decent seasons but couldn't break through.

He had some decent seasons but couldn't break through. Actually a pretty good recruiter and took a few players away from us. He would be a good assistant if we have a spot. Always seemed to find bigs from afar. He always kind of reminded me of Coach Ray. He seemed like a decent recruiter but couldn't win the tight ones. I kind of disagree with the Commish above, I have always felt EMU had a pretty nice campus and Ypsi is a decent campus town. Also the academics at EMU are underrated and their honors college is good. They have a center from Sam's old school who I think is a nice player and would be an active addition to our roster. I think we originally offered him. They made a stupid move from Hurons to Eagles and lost more support than they expected and as we know this offends a few good backers.

Maybe this is actually the comedian John Goodman who also is not real funny.

That's a big screw up by Goodman. It's what happens when you're in a rush to get it first instead of get it right.
