EMU with an interesting verbal commitment as 7 foot center Cyril Martynov is transferring in from Georgia Tech. Cyril was a definite "project" in the class of 2022, but he had several offers from high major programs, eventually signing with Georgia Tech. He only played 18 minutes all season, however. With the coaching change in Atlanta, he hit the portal. He is an intriguing prospect. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/gamelog/_/id/5105432/cyril-martynovCyril showed definite improvement at EMU, appearing in 30 games and averaging roughly 3 points and 3 rebounds per game. His best game was an 8 point, 4 rebound outing against us. It looked like he was in a good spot to develop in Ypsilanti, but he's in the portal again. I doubt that he was run off, unless it was for attitude or some off the court reason. Most mid majors will hold on to a 7 foot, 230 guy.

Christian Henry, a 6-2 guard from Panola JUCO, verbally committed to EMU. The Chicago native averaged 14 ppg this past season.

Eastern adds two transfers from DePaul: Flint native Jalen Terry and Toledo native DeSean Nelson. Terry averaged 9 points per game in an injury plagued season while the 6-8 Nelson averaged 10 points per game. I believe both will do well in the MAC.

EMU power forward Legend Geeter has entered the portal. The River Rouge high school star began his career at Providence, but did not see action in his only season there. He transferred to EMU and has averaged roughly 5 points and 4 rebounds per game in 20 minutes per contest. Hasn't lived up to some of the expectations after a really strong high school career. The Eagles expected him back; he has been included on the 2024-25 official roster.

Heath just recruited over Geeter by taking Nelson.
Again, a lot will depend upon his academic standing. Will he graduate? Will he be a 4th year senior or a 5th year senior?

In a blow to EMU, guard Orlando Lovejoy is in the portal. Orlando, a Romulus kid, struggled with injuries this season, but averaged 10 ppg on 44% shooting. Good defender. Not a three point shooter; he's hit 4 of 23 attempts in his two year college career.

I'm not sure what some of these guys are looking for, unless they are just casting their name out there and hoping someone with NIL money has a spot to fill. Last year, it would have made basketball sense for Farrakhan to return to EMU, since Bates was gone and there was a decent returning cast. I imagine he got more money from WVU than he would have gotten with EMU, but I don't know how much it was. And from a basketball perspective, he just wasted a year. I'm not sure what the market if for Lovejoy, considering his injury struggles last year and his lack of outside shooting ability. I like him as a player, but a program with a lot of NIL cash might find better players to spend it on.

Maybe Geeter saw it that way, being recruited over, but having watched a lot of EMU games and a lot of DePaul games, I thought that Heath's plan was for Geeter and Nelson to play together. Their games are not similar. Same with Lovejoy and Terry. They seemed like players who would compliment each other.
