I doubt if they will change the name of the Huron Mountains, Huron Mountain Club,Huron Twp.,Huron River Drive, Huron River or Lake Huron but EMU caved! Yet the people doing a lot for the Campus led by Charlie Batch are still Never Eagles always Hurons! Good group but you can’t help but wonder how many alumni will not donate and are still angered by the name change?

Tingler verbally committed to EMU today. Nice pick up for Coach Heath. EMU made an offer to Tingler back in August 2022.

EMU honored former head coach Ben Braun last month by naming the basketball court in their home arena after him. From the article covering the ceremony: Braun's coaching tenure at EMU spanned 11 seasons, during which he accumulated an impressive list of achievements, including 185 victories, three Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular Season Championships, three MAC Tournament titles, and three NCAA Tournament selections. His success was further underscored by three MAC Coach of the Year awards and a remarkable 106-35 home record. It is a well deserved honor for an excellent coach. One of my relatives played for Braun and has only good things to say about him. Congrats, Coach. emueagles.com/news/2023/11/20/mens-basketball-ben-brauns-name-added-to-george-gervin-gameabove-center-court.aspx

I worked with him on a broadcast as the talent stats guy, feeding them info. Very nice man, didn't big-time the hired help, as some color/p x p guys do. He was surprised to find out I even knew about his days at EMU. I was also at the EWU-WMU football game the Saturday before they announced Crosby's gift, as part of my MACtion Tour 2023. EMU lost but we had a lot of fun. Too bad the NCAA prevents schools like UDM from playing DIII football.

More good EMU news: A two time graduate of EMU and former student athlete, Phil Incarnati, has made a $2.5 million donation to EMU athletics. Incarnati was a scholarhip football player at EMU and received his bachelor and masters degrees at the school. He previously donated $1.5 million to EMU, supporting their Championship Building Plan fundraising plan. He's currently CEO of McLaren Health. In recognition of his generosity, EMU is re-naming their athletic center the Incarnati Athletic Center. (So, that's how you do it? Get a big donation and THEN honor someone? Looks like the folks at Six Mile and Livernois have it backwards.) I'm jealous, but happy for Eastern. Details below. emueagles.com/news/2023/12/7/phil-incarnati-commits-2-5-million-to-emu-athletics.aspx

Thanks Sam - I hadn't realized what they were up to. I suspect the donors were bought into the vision and energy around these donations and programs. I don't have a specific tie to EMU but I appreciate good things happening in SE Michigan.

Bad news for EMU as leading scorer Tyson Acuff entered the transfer portal. Acuff averaged 21 points per game for the Eagles and will likely have quite a few suitors. Also in the portal is senior forward Connor Servern, who transferred from Illinois prior to this season and averaged 3.3 points per game. He had a handful of double figure scoring games, and given his 6-8/235 dimensions, I imagine Heath would have taken him back if he wanted to stick around.
EMU saw some improvement in 2023-24, compared to the prior season. They finished at 13-18, 6-12, an improvement over last year's 8-23 record. Injuries to Acuff, Orlando Lovejoy, JUCO transfer Julius Ellerbe certainly impacted the season. Ellerbe started out fast, piling up rebounds and assists, but his injuries started in early December and lingered until late January when they shut him down. He missed 13 games. Lovejoy missed 7 and was affected most of the season.
It looks like Coach Heath will be coming back, and the Eagles have both a core of players that can return and room to add some pieces. They've already got a class of 2024 recruit signed. There's reason to be optimistic, but also reason to be pessimistic.

He signed with Uncle Rashad's Prestige Management group to be his agent in getting NIL. Maybe he will try for a package deal with his younger brother.

Two more guys hit the portal for EMU. They are:
Sophomore Javante Randle, who was on the Titans radar at one point. He appeared in 19 games, averaging about six minutes per game. Roughly 2 points and 2 boards per game. Still raw, but he's 6-11.
Andrew Wells, a walk on guard from East Lansing.
