Sporting News is out, says TJMIK, with this prediction:
1. Cleveland St 2. Valpo 3. Wisconsin Green Bay 4. Oakland 5. Wright St 6. Wisconsin Milwaukee 7. Youngstown St 8. Detroit 9. UIC
Flop Oakland and Detroit and that would look pretty solid, even if I wouldn't agree with each position.

Here's a site I previously hadn't known, called Hoopspulse, that TJ calls to our attention. www.hoopspulse.com/previews/category/horizon. It sounds like just 1 guy, and I think his team analyses are woefully inaccurate, dated (written in late July), and internally inconsistent (for example, he suggests that Detroit's recruiting class, consisting of First Team All-State forwards Jaleel Hogan and Aaron Foster-Smith, Arizona State transfer Brandon Kearney, and juco Shy McClellan- who appears to be off the team - is the "weakest" in the Horizon. But he admits that Oakland's class consists of "3 recruits, all of which are unranked." And he calls Milwaukee's recruiting class "one of the weakest in the entire country." There's a whole lot more, but that was just one quick example. Indeed, declaring that Oakland is essentially adding nobody and losing two of its best players, then suggesting that 13-20 team will be "much better," just seems wierd. On Wright State, under "who the Raiders are losing," he discusses only AJ Pacher and Matt Vest. He seems to miss that they are also losing Cole Darling, a 2nd team all-Horizon player in 2013; Miles Dixon, a starting forward who was third on the team in minutes played; and Jerron Young, who started 9 games and was the Raiders #4 scorer after Pacher, Darling, and Dixon. Of course, brief previews can't account for every change, but that's a lot to miss. With Valpo he claims that they are losing "starter" Jordan Coleman. But Coleman started just 10 games last season, just 4 in conference play. And he projects David Chadwick as their starting PF. Chadwick hasn't done a thing in his collegiate career at Rice and Valpo, and has so many knee problems he may not even play. No way does Chadwick start ahead of Jubril Adekoya, who started 24 games last year as a freshman. He projects walk-on junior Larry Johnson as a starter for YSU. Johnson last year played a total of 22 minutes. Anyway, I could go on at length, but you get the picture. He's trying to do too much, ranking every conference, to know what he's talking about. But I'll list his predictions anyway. 1. Green Bay 2. Oakland 3. Cleveland State 4. Wright State 5. Detroit 6. Valparaiso 7. Milwaukee 8. Youngstown State 9. UIC

I'm doing the previews for BustingBrackets.com. Here's the order I came up with: 1. Green Bay 2. Valpo (though I'm going to have to think this one over after Williams got hurt) 3. Cleveland State 4. Detroit 5. Milwaukee 6. Wright State 7. Oakland 8. Youngstown State 9. UIC(I'll update with links as the articles are published) Milwaukee, WSU and Oakland are wild cards. It wouldn't be a shock to me to see pretty much anyone 1-7 win the title, though on paper there's a bit of space between 1-3 & 4-7

I don't usually put actual standings in my predictions (it makes it more likely you'll be wrong!), but these look about right. Like last year, I have predicted Green Bay to win the regular season. I'd drop Valpo sans Williams a tad, but 2nd through 8th are, in my mind, pretty wide open. I don't think YSU can finish second, but I think they can finish quite a bit better than 8th (I'm actually kind of bullish on YSU this year). Conversely, I doubt CSU will finish 8th, but 6th or 7th wouldn't shock me (for the record, I'll put CSU 2nd as my prediction). I like Wright State more than Milwaukee. But it's very wide open. Look forward to seeing your full analysis.

Thanks, Parker. We'll look forward to the links. I don't usually put actual standings in my predictions (it makes it more likely you'll be wrong!), Bahaha...no kidding, especially since recruiting at the Horizon League level can be pretty hit-or-miss
