I think it's a good thing when a program can land high school teammates, especially if they complement each other on the court. It makes the transition to college easier, and probably cuts down on the homesick factor. Providence seems to have pulled that off. They just got a commitment from three star recruit Christ Essandoko, a 7 foot/250 center from Winston Salem Prep in North Carolina. Rivals and 24/7 put him in the top 150 in the class of 2022. Back in July, Essandoko's prep school teammate, Quante Berry, committed to the Friars. Berry is a three star point guard who had multiple high major offers. 247sports.com/college/providence/Season/2022-Basketball/Commits/

Bad news for Georgetown. They should not have welched on the return game they technically still owe us from 40+ years ago.

Ankle Breakin' Bryce Aiken is healthy-ish, and seeing some time for Seton Hall. From Jon Rothstein on Twitter: "Seton Hall's Bryce Aiken has only committed a total of four turnovers this season in 82 minutes. Pirates are 4-0 in games where he logs double figure minutes. At Creighton tonight." Ankle Breakin' Bryce Aiken has been cleared for all basketball activities at Seton Hall after another injury plagued season in 2020-21. Would be nice for the kid if he can enjoy an injury free season.

Marquette red shirt senior Greg Elliot has been suspended by Coach Shaka Smart for last week's exhibition game against Bowie State (a 98-40 Marquette win) and the first four games of the regular season. Per Smart, Detroit native Elliot is being disciplined for a "lapse in judgement". No other details were given, but given the severity of the penalty, I believe it must have been significant.

I love The Gavitt Games, the annual challenge between the Big East and the Big Ten (Fourteen). They usually do a good job making competitive match ups and the games are usually exciting.
The Big East jumped off to an unexpected good start last night as both Providence and Marquette pulled off upset wins. The Friars beat the Badgers in Wisconsin and Marquette beat #10 ranked Illinois. Didn't take new Golden Eagle coach Shaka Smart long to notch his first notable win.
Tonight the games continue with Creighton vs Nebraska for the state championship and Seton Hall vs Michigan in a rematch of the 1989 NCAA championship.

I see the B1G staring this thing off 1-3, assuming Michigan can grab the win against Seton Hall in the rematch. Terry Dehere ain't walking through that door.

Seton Hall fans are still ticked about the foul call that put Rumeal Robinson on the line for the game winning free throws. :-) Creighton and Nebraska should be interesting. Creighton is expected to be down this year and Nebraska fans think they are up the upswing.
