Its been fun to see a team like Michigan State evolve and come into its own this season. This is a completely different team than the one that started the season ranked #1 and playing in the Champions Classic. Role players have stepped up and found their spots to star, stars have stepped forward, and most importantly Cassius has been able to lead despite the effects of losing his brother. This is why I love college hoops, seeing kids and teams change and improve.
Side note - MCSam, your guy E Bates was at the MSU game yesterday as an 'unofficial' visit. If he's going to stay all 4 at Lincoln and not go the prep school route, it's easy to see him becoming a Spartan and not being too far from Ypsi/home.

Ohio State landed Harvard grad transfer Seth Towns. Towns hasn't played in two years due to a knee injury, so I don't know how much he'll play for the Buckeyes.

Primarily because Gaffney is leaving and most likely both Wessons as well. Landing Towns was huge for the Buckeyes. I keep a close eye as the Buckeyes are to udballer what DePaul is to MCSam. ๐

Baller, my question isn't about Towns having the opportunity or if he will be effective. My concern is only about his health. I think if he's healthy he will be a HUGE plus for the Buckeyes. FYI, I was a fan of several Buckeye players in the 80s. Clark Kellogg, Herb Williams, Kelvin Ransey, Troy Taylor, Ronnie Stokes, etc. Those were exciting teams.

I've been a Buckeye fan since just about 1987 on the gridiron, which spilled over to the hardwood in the late 80s / early 90s. I was immediately blessed to be able to watch a solid Jimmy Jackson-led team in the early 90s. Outside of Randolph Childress, Jackson is still probably my favorite college player of all time.

Roper was the best player on the floor in the Operation Friendship game against Cass Tech.

Roper was the best player on the floor at Operation Friendship. You'll know we're back when we get these kinds of Catholic Leaguers straight out of high school.
As to Ohio State: The year we beat UCLA, we got hammered in the 2nd round by OSU. The Starting Senior Center on that team was a 6-11 shot-blocking rebound machine from the PSL. He was going to go to U-D -- PW led for his services his entire senior season. Then, at the last second when the April Signing Period opened up, another player fell through for OSU and they offered him a scholarship. He took it. Left us dry. We had a good team but no real center - Danny Whye was our center at 6-8. OSU went on to the Final Four after they beat us BUT they were caught and convicted years later for cheating in recruiting during that season/era and their entire season and tourney run was voided. So, technically, we were a Sweet 16 Team that year that never actually "lost". I have no doubt that our PSL player and his last-ditch recruitment was part of that scandal. After that, my hope every season is that OSU loses every game.

Unless the PSL player's last name was Radojevic or Savovic (it wasn't)... I don't think you have a gripe there. The scholarship offer itself was enough to pull Johnson away to Columbus.

The scholarship offer itself was enough to pull Johnson away to Columbus. Yes, the lure of a Big Ten offer is hard to resist for a kid who is mostly being recruited by mid majors. Speaking of Ohio State and local kids, there were two Buckeyes who I wanted to come to Detroit under McCallum who could have made a real difference. The first was Amir Williams of Detroit. He was in the class of 2011, and was a four star 6-10 center who was ranked the top player in Michigan. He had offers from multiple high majors, and his choice came down to Florida or Ohio State. He struggled his first two seasons there, and I was hoping he would transfer to U-D following the 2012-13 season after the Titans were coming off back to back NCAA tourney and NIT berths. Seemed like a good time for the big man to come home, but he stuck it out at OSU, playing in about 20 mins per game and averaging about 7 points per game over his last two seasons. I think he would have been an all conference type player in the HL. The second player was Trey McDonald, a 6-8 power forward from Battle Creek. McDonald was a three star recruit and was also in the class of 2011. He never got any traction at OSU, playing only 38 minutes total as a freshman. He played 144 minutes as a sophomore, and scored 25 total points. I thought he was a prime target to transfer, but he also decided to stick it out with the Buckeyes, playing sparingly, and never scoring more than 2.8 ppg his last two season. McDonald was 6-8, 240 with the Buckeyes. I think he would have been a solid contributor for us.

Just noticed this one, Sam. Thanks for keeping me posted... or trying anyway. Yeah, this pick up was a head scratcher to me. OSU definitely lost more than they gained via transfer this year.
