Unless the PSL player's last name was Radojevic or Savovic (it wasn't)... I don't think you have a gripe there. The scholarship offer itself was enough to pull Johnson away to Columbus. Yes, the lure of a Big Ten offer is hard to resist for a kid who is mostly being recruited by mid majors. Speaking of Ohio State and local kids, there were two Buckeyes who I wanted to come to Detroit under McCallum who could have made a real difference. The first was Amir Williams of Detroit. He was in the class of 2011, and was a four star 6-10 center who was ranked the top player in Michigan. He had offers from multiple high majors, and his choice came down to Florida or Ohio State. He struggled his first two seasons there, and I was hoping he would transfer to U-D following the 2012-13 season after the Titans were coming off back to back NCAA tourney and NIT berths. Seemed like a good time for the big man to come home, but he stuck it out at OSU, playing in about 20 mins per game and averaging about 7 points per game over his last two seasons. I think he would have been an all conference type player in the HL. The second player was Trey McDonald, a 6-8 power forward from Battle Creek. McDonald was a three star recruit and was also in the class of 2011. He never got any traction at OSU, playing only 38 minutes total as a freshman. He played 144 minutes as a sophomore, and scored 25 total points. I thought he was a prime target to transfer, but he also decided to stick it out with the Buckeyes, playing sparingly, and never scoring more than 2.8 ppg his last two season. McDonald was 6-8, 240 with the Buckeyes. I think he would have been a solid contributor for us. Agree on this also. Was very surprised that McDonald remained a Buckeye. Seemed to be a perfect candidate to transfer. More recently, the Buckeyes had a big (David Bell) that was similar and I had some pipe dreams of getting a transfer from someone like him. He ended up transferring to Jacksonville.

Just noticed this one, Sam. Thanks for keeping me posted... or trying anyway. Yeah, this pick up was a head scratcher to me. OSU definitely lost more than they gained via transfer this year. If the Titans had picked up that guy I would have been underwhelmed. I was definitely surprised that the Buckeyes brought him on board.

I'm hoping he's got handles like Torrey Gist. For those who dont get as deep into MHSAA basketball, I'm hoping he's got handles like God Shammgod.

Justin Smith, a rising senior small forward, will grad transfer from Indiana. Smith was the third leading scorer for the Hoosiers and the team leader in minutes played. Apparently he put his name in the NBA draft and got some feedback about what he needed to do to impress the scouts. According to what I read, he decided that he wouldn't get the opportunity to showcase those things at IU, so he's leaving. A similar thing happened with Matt McClung of Georgetown, and probably others.

UDBaller will be happy as the Ohio State University lands a verbal commitment from a four star recruit in 2021. So far, the class of 2021 for the Buckeyes includes a four star power forward, a four star small forward, and a three star point guard. All are from the state of Ohio. ohiostate.rivals.com/commitments/basketball/2021

You're right, Sam. That it's good news for me. A bit scary that all 3 are from Ohio though. When football needs to rely heavily on in-state recruits I'm okay... but basketball in Ohio is hit and miss from year to year. It's been more promising lately though.

Big news for the Fighting Illini as both Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn have decided to withdraw from the NBA draft and return on Champaign for the upcoming season. They were the top two scorers for Illinois last year, with 16 and 13 ppg respectively.

Luke Garza, one of the favorites for player of the year this coming season, will forego professional opportunities and return to Iowa. Big news for the Hawkeyes.
