Toledo is picked by Lindy's and Athlon to be the third best team in the MAC this coming season. Expected standouts are front court players JT Shumate and Setric Millner, along with guard Ryan Rollins. The Rockets will miss Marreon Jackson, who took his 18/6/6 stat line to Arizona State, but return a solid core.

I know we've wondered this before, but is this the season that the Rockets break their NCAA tournamentless streak? Toledo got a big road win against first place Ohio on Friday night. UT got 26 points from Michigan native Ryan Rollins to bring their record to 15-4, 7-1.
The Rockets picked up some wins over upper level conference teams in the non-conference season, with victories over Bradley, Valpo, and Tulane. They lost one to Oakland that they'd like to get back and fell short to Michigan State and Richmond. They probably won't have enough opportunities to warrant an at large bid (outside of winning a crazy amount of conference games) so they likely need to win the MAC tourney to ensure a bid. I'm pulling for them.

Toledo starting home and home series with Northern Iowa and Vermont next season. That's a good pair of opponents for series. Toledo still draws about 5000/game.

That's a good pair of opponents for series. Toledo still draws about 5000/game. And George Mason too I'd take all 3 of those games. Promote the hell out of them - push the whole come see the run to the NCAA all time leading scoring record thing; reduced price tickets for any and every elementary and high school group, church groups, veterans groups, etc. Eliminate the closed sections, mask mandates, and be accommodating - open the concessions, invite in high school bands, run on court media timeout promotions; half time shows and youth games, etc. Give someone that responsibility and hold them to it. We should make a 3000 or 3500 average our goal

Michigan native Ryan Rollins, who left Toledo after his sophomore year, was drafted by Atlanta with pick 44 and then traded to Golden State.

I liked him as a recruit. Toledo certainly recruits Michigan better than we do.

Toledo steals another top recruit from the state as UDJ Cub Sonny Wilson commits to the Rockets. For some reason the past few staffs have not been able to recruit players from UDJ...at least directly out of high school. Since the Ohio schools recruit the Detroit area so well, I've always felt that we should return the favor and recruit Ohio. This years roster has two Ohio players.

I right off hand can’t think of any UDJ players we have signed out of high school. Is it all our coaches or is it the coach at UDJ?

That cry of anguish you hear coming from The Glass City is the reaction of Toledo fans after the Rockets fell in the MAC title game to Kent State, 93-78. The streak of not making the NCAA tourment continues. The last Rocket appearance in the Big Dance was in 1980.
I liked Toledo's chances to finally return to the NCAA tournament this season, and they looked ready to do it. Today's loss broke a 17 game losing streak that saw the Rockets play some of the best ball in the country. That's a terribly disappointing loss, and I feel bad for the Rockets. I root for them in MAC play when they're not playing one of Michigan schools.
Toledo finishes 27-7, 16-2. The NIT awaits.

I was impressed by both teams. It was also a great atmosphere--very large, loud crowd. Easily rivaled MVC's "Arch Madness," something that has not always been the case for the MAC. Kent State is probably looking at a 13 seed, maybe a 12.
