Toledo lands a good looking recruit as guard Bryce Ford signs his NLI with the Rockets. I am a little familiar with Ford, who is a Phoenix kid. He scored 38 points this past season in a win over nationally ranked Gilbert Perry High School.

Toledo's best player, Rayj Dennis, is in the portal. The 6-2 guard averaged 20 points and 6 assists per game last year. He'll get some high major interest. This is his second transfer, however; he was at Boise State for two years before transferring to Toledo.
Tough break for the Rockets, who certainly would have welcomed back Dennis for his "extra" year of eligibility.

Unlike some programs, Toledo continues to place a priority on high school recruiting. This week, the Rockets got a verbal commit from class of 2024 recruit Tyler Ode from Saginaw Heritage High School.
Toledo continues the border raids that net Michgan players. In fact, today Verbal Commits showed Toledo making offers to several high school players, including players from Warren De LaSalle, Renaissance, and East Lansing.

The Rockets add another Michigan kid to their 2024 class, as Jaylen Ouwinga of Grand Rapids committed to Toledo. I don't know if the Titans offered him, but he had reported offers from EMU, CMU, WMU, Oakland, and Akron along with the the Toledo offer.

Goodness, it's going to be another year without an NCAA tournament appearance for the Rockets. They fell today in the MAC tournament to Kent State, a team the Rockets had beaten twice by double digits this year. The final score was 67-59.
That's a brutal loss. Kent State isn't a terrible team, but Rockets fans were hopeful about a possible NCAA appearance this year. They haven't been to the Big Dance since 1980, despite being an excellent mid major program, especially in recent years. Toledo won their fourth straight outright MAC title this season, but that tournament drought is a burden to carry. And this year, they don't have the auto bid to the NIT as a consolation prize. Hopefully for them, they do get into the NIT.
Good luck next year, Rockets. I'm rooting for you.

Toledo received a commitment from D2 transfer guard Colin O'Rourke of Wisconsin-Parkside. O'Rourke averaged 16 points per game and was second team all conference. He is an Illinois native.

The Rockets were hit hard in the transfer portal, losing Dante Maddox to Xavier and Ra'Heim Moss to Oregon. The two guard combined for 30 ppg this season. Tyler Cochran, who scored 14 ppg for Toledo, is also in the portal. It's rough for mid majors, including good programs like Toledo.

The next shoe drops for Toledo as former Rocket Tyler Cochran commits to Oregon State. That's a well run, winning D1 program losing a lot of talent through no fault of their own. This version of college basketball is going to continue to be hard on the mid majors.
