Here's a neat story on Toledo's old star (and former Detroit Piston) Steve Mix. nypost.com/2017/03/19/why-is-this-ex-nba-star-taking-tickets-at-mets-games/It was in a tough matchup with Toledo in 1969 that Spencer Haywood and Mix mixed it up, which ender with Haywood punching referee George Struthers. Haywood was suspended for 3 games, which probably cost the Titans at least an NIT big that year.

Solid player; not a star, but a good contributor on some really good teams. Glad to know that he and Dr. J still keep in touch.

Big weekend for Toledo, as they host Chris Darrington, a JUCO All American and Toledo native. Darrington has an offer from Memphis and has visited there, and I think he's visiting Tennessee next. He would be a big get for the Rockets.

Toledo once again sneaks across the border and snags a Detroit prospect, Donovan Moore of West Bloomfield. Moore reportedly was offered by the previous Titan regime. Actually, he is really an Illinois prospect, as he recently moved to Michigan from the Land of Lincoln. Coming off a very successful 2017-18 season, the Rockets remain a formidable force for mid major prospects. verbalcommits.com/players/donavan-moore

The Rockets reach into the Hoosier State and snag Aaron Etherington, a good prospect out of the Indianapolis area for the class of 2019. The young man had a lot of solid mid major offers. He was an IUPUI target.

Chris Darrington Retweeted Ethan Knopp @ehoopsohio · 3h3 hours ago '17 G Chris Darrington of Scott HS and Vincennes JC is on an official visit to his hometown University of Toledo this weekend. In the Department of Better Late Than Never: So, the Rockets tried to land Toledo native Chris Darrington in the class of 2017, as he entertained offers from Memphis and Tennessee after completing a Division 1 JUCO All American season at Vincennes JUCO. Looking back, Memphis probably would have been the right choice for him, but he believed Coach Barnes at Tennessee when Coach promised him a major role on the team. Per Darrington when he announced his commitment to the Volunteers, "Coach Barnes told me he needed a Bat Man, and that I would be his Bat Man." Unfortunately for Darrington, Tennessee already had a Super Man, a Hulk, and an Iron Man in the backcourt and CD got buried on the bench behind a good group of returning guards. As we have discussed before on this board (and people are probably sick of me saying it), it is critical for JUCO players to make the right choice out of college, because if they make the wrong decision, it is hard to transfer to a D1 program. Fortunately for Darrington, when he decided to transfer, he found a willing partner in the hometown Rockets. CD is a sit one/play one transfer, but Toledo gains a potentially explosive guard for the 2019-20 season, and looks good to the local fans and high schools by bringing back a hometown player. Win/win for both the player and the program. Hopefully, Toledo is on our home schedule for the 2019-20 season. I have followed Darrington for awhile. I would be interested in seeing him in person.

Per @jonrothstein on Twitter: Toledo's Chris Darrington has received a waiver from the NCAA and is immediately eligible to play during the 2018-19 season, per release. Transfer from Tennessee.

Toledo crosses state lines and lands the commitment of Ryan Rollins, a 2020 guard from Dakota High School.
I can see why Toledo remains an attractive destination for players from Michigan. It's in another state, so you can feel like you are going away to school, but it is close enough for trips home and a short drive for your family and friends to come see you play. And Toledo has been winning games, playing in a nice arena, on a good sized campus. They have a lot to offer a mid major prospect.

The MAC is a better conference than the Horizon League too, and it has football - Gives the campus a "big time feel" - especially for players visiting in the fall on a gameday

I've made it down to Toledo for two or three games in recent years, and the game day experience is good even for visiting fans.

A football game, even if the team isn't very good, is a good backdrop for a Fall visit.

Not sure what is going on with Toledo, but since they beat us to improve to 8-2, they have dropped five in a row. They've dug an 0-2 hole in conference play. It's a long season, though. I think they'll be a threat come conference tourney time.
Sophomore power forward Gavin Bizeau was dismissed from the team last week. Bizeau averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds in seven games this season. He's a 6-11 center.
On the recruiting front, the Rockets got a commitment from 2020 recruit Ra'Heim Moss. Moss is at Spire Institute. At one point, he was getting serious attention from Cincinnati. Could be another in that long line of solid Rocket guards.

Grand Rapids native Seth Milner, formerly of Cleveland State, has committed to Toledo. The Rockets love getting Michigan kids.
