The Titan men's lacrosse team opened play with a 9-8 win over Jacksonville over the weekend. Jacksonville was in the "others receiving votes" category in the national preseason rankings, so this is a pretty good victory. Junior Alex Jarzembowski was tabbed the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Logan Shamblin was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Titans are coming off a 9-7 season in which they just missed the NCAA tournament, losing to Canisius in overtime in the finals of the MAAC tournament. The Titans were projected to finish second in this year's MAAC preseason poll, behind Monmouth. Jarzembowski, Senior attacker Matthew VanGalen, and junior defender Alex Akins were pre-season all-conference picks. The MAAC expands to 8 teams for lacross this year, with the addition of St. Bonaventure.
The Titans next two games will be at 10th-ranked Notre Dame a week from Saturday (Feb. 16), and at #19 Marquette on February 23.

The Titans lost badly to 9th ranked Notre Dame last Saturday. Detroit played even for a while, with the score tied at 4-4 early in the second quarter. But the Irish scored 12 straight goals and went on to win 19-6. The Titans face #21 Marquette this Saturday in Milwaukee.

Titans beat Bellarmine 15-14 today on a goal by Matthew VanGalen with 9 seconds left to play. The Titans (3-1) travel west to face the Air Force Academy on Wednesday in Colorado Springs. A traditional western power, Air Force is 3-2 but has already beaten two of the Titans' MAAC brethren, Marist and Canisius, so a win would be a good marker for the Titans.

The men beat St. Bonaventure 16-8 yesterday in the MAAC opener. The Bonnies (0-4) are new to the conference and predicted to finish last, so temper your wild enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, Matt Van Galen was MAAC offensive player of the week last week, the third Titan to gain that honor this year. The Titans are 4-2 overall and play at Quinnipiac next Saturday. The Titans were picked for 2d and the Quinnipeckers 3rd in conference, so that should be a real test.

Titans won a big one today, beating Marist on the road. The Titans trailed 11-8 with with 9:50 left after Marist scored 3 quick goals to start the final period, but the Titans responded with 4 goals in under 5 minutes, then held on to win. The victory moves the Titans into 2nd place in the MAAC at 3-1, 6-3 overall. We trail Quinnipiac by a half game. The Quinnipeckers are 3-0, and dealt the Titans our only conference defeat, 12-9 at Quinnipiac two weeks ago. The Titans spend the next two weeks at home, facing Manhattan and Canisius.
Also, Logan Shamblin was MAAC Defensive Player of the Week this week, on the basis of last Saturday's 6-4 win over Monmouth, when he recorded 15 saves. It was his second Defensive Player of the Week Award this year.

The Titans rolled over Manhattan today, 10-5. Coupled with a Quinnipiac loss to Canisius, that moves the Titans into first place in the MAAC, a half game ahead of Quinnipiac and Siena. Siena plays a night game against Marist later today.

Just a reminder, the Titans--currently in first place in the MAAC--play Canisius on Saturday at noon at Titan Field. The game is also on ESPN+. Canisius is currently tied for second, a half-game behind our Titans.
Lacrosse has already established itself as the #2 sport at UD and we've had at least some success, with an NCAA appearance a couple years back. We should have returned to the NCAAs last year. After finishing second in the regular season, we lost a late lead and then lost in overtime to Canisius in the finals of the MAAC tournament.
A win tomorrow guarantees the Titans continued sole possession of first place and clinches a spot in the 4-team MAAC tournament that decides the NCAA bid. Lacrosse is a good spectator sport so I'd encourage those who can to go down and support the Titans, or at least catch it on ESPN +.
