As a fan base, I feel like we are the prisoners that choose the bread over the key.
The answer is right there in front of us.

Based on Mike Davis Jr's on-going comments in post game interviews, there's a serious disconnect between the players and the coaching staff.
It's an extreme action however, firing MD and MD Jr. in the near term is an option. If that were to occur, I'm guessing Donnie Marsh would be named the interim head coach. In that case, we could seek assistance and support from Earl Cureton for the remainder of the season.

This must be the Coach’s last year of his contract? Can anyone confirm?
It may be a surprise if there was a path for a new contract.

We do have some players who are taking longer than others to adjust to D1 basketball. The fact that Mike Jr cites the same issues in each postgame interview simply reflects that fact. Two weeks ago at Ole Miss, I did not see any disconnects whatsoever between coaches and players there. I saw players who were very engaged. But, in any group, different individuals will pick up their roles at different paces. For example, last year at this time, Marcus was far behind in understanding his defensive assignments. By year end, he had improved a lot. Players like Davis and Manciel are getting their first real taste of D1 ball. We are getting a lot of inconsistent performance early in the season because of the overall inexperience of the roster. But, no, I saw the entire game preparation, shootaround, and scouting session at Ole Miss. There was no disconnect between those 10 players and the coaches.

He's in his 6th year of contract, I've read it was a seven year deal. It's possible that the contract provides for less than full salary the seventh year if terminated earlier, I think sometimes these longer term contracts are structured that way.

This getting "a real taste" of D1 ball thing is really overstated, first, we're not exactly playing Duke or Kansas, seems like our toughest teams so far would be Ole Miss or Cinncinati, certainly, teams we should be able to play with. Furthermore, most of the players have played at some other schools, so it's not like they came from some HS JV. This is a whole package of coaching dysfunction, 1) failure to grow the team, year after year causing whole new players each year, 20 poor game preparation, 3) poor early scheduling, 4)staff cronyism or nepotism, and 5) disconnect with the press and fan base, it's a bad package. It's more than past time for a change.

Maybe if the team winning % falls below .1000 in year 6, year 7 is a freebie? Maybe that would keep him around for another year? Personally, I was expecting (apparently hoping is the better word) that the coaching would improve once AD moved on. I noted years ago that I'd reserve judgement until I saw this staff with an Antoine-less roster. Well, here we are... and the early results suck balls. On a side note... Mike Thomas finished his initial season at East Kentwood with a conference title and a district title. Impossible to argue with his results. If he were ever offered the reins, the recruiting would be the major question mark. That said, I'm confident he could coach our current team to a much better result than what we're watching... and our roster isn't packed full of recruiting wins.

This mess is 100% on these coaches as they continue to disparage the players, IMO. Let’s give Rashad Phillips a shot at turning around this program.

Don't worry. Soon, Taylor is expected to announce a new partnership with Gores and the Pistons. Troy Weaver will be replacing Vowels as AD and Monty Williams will be the new head coach of men's BB. Gores will endow those positions with the guaranteed contract money he owes both men.

It’s not that dramatic or complicated. We have a coaching staff that is doing a dismal job and we need a new coach.
As far as Coach Davis, I would thank him for his service and may he find a new start and or a new opportunity.

I don't think Davis could find a "new start" he likely will retire and move back to Texas.
