Vanderbilt has now signed Kenyon Martin, Jr. He will join Scottie Pippen, Jr. in the 2019 class. Looks like new coach Jerry Stackhouse is trying to turn Vandy into a..."junior" college. (Rimshot!) Thanks, folks. I'm here all week. Kenyon Martin Jr. has decided to skip college and pursue a professional career. Kind of a surprise because no one considered him a future pro. It is a blow to Vanderbilt, which is trying to bounce back from an 0-18 conference record. Another change in the plans for Kenyon Martin, Jr. Rather than pursuing professional opportunities, he will take a year at the IMG Academy in Florida and then enter the NBA draft in 2020. Interesting, because Martin is basically a three star recruit, not on anyone's top 100, and not considered a future NBA player. Also, if he was trying to prepare for the NBA, I think a year at Vandy would be better than a year at IMG. Of course, Martin has a rich father, which is a safety net that a lot of players don't have.

Kentucky gets its turn in the Chasing Ghosts series. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/27301904/adolph-rupp-built-kentucky-legacy-persistsI mentioned this before, but as the resident Tubby Smith fan, I'll mention it again. Tubby gets criticism from some fans for not doing more at Kentucky, while Coach Cal is considered a basketball god, but their ten year runs (so far, for Cal) are similar. Smith: 1 NCAA title, 10 NCAA appearances. .760 overall winning %, .750 in conference. 5 regular season conference titles. 3 Elite Eights. 2 Sweet Sixteens. Calipari: 1 NCAA title. 9 NCAA appearances. .811 overall, .781 conference. 4 regular season conference championships. 3 Final Fours. 2 Elite Eights. 1 Sweet Sixteen. Of course, Calipari clearly outdoes Coach Smith on signing day.

The 2019-20 Georgia Bulldog roster has seven freshman, so Coach Crean is dipping into the JUCO pool for a little roster balance. He got a package deal from Eastern Florida State Junior College today as point guard Mikal Starks and power forward Jonathan Ned committed. I can't find other power five offers for either player, but both played well in limited minutes as freshmen on a talented team last season and likely would have had high major offers had they waited to commit. Both should provide depth for the Dawgs next season. Georgia's 2019 class was ranked 10th in the nation. I think Crean is a good coach who didn't reach the expected heights at IU, but he should do well in Athens. 247sports.com/college/georgia/Article/Jonathan-Ned-Mikal-Starks-commits-Georgia-Basketball-recruiting-136644606/

Buzz Williams can coach, and he can recruit. Does he do it all cleanly? That's up for debate.
