Foster Wonders, the pride of Iron Mountain, is in the transfer portal. The 6-5 guard averaged 2.6 ppg in 24 games for Southern Illinois. Coach doesn't like guys who played at small high schools, but he does like guys who have good shooting percentages, and Wonders fits that bill. 2.6 ppg? If he has a high shooting percentage he must not take, like, 1.5 shots per game.

One guy who slipped by me when he hit the portal was Michigan sophomore Isaiah Barnes. He's a 6-8, 200 pound Chicago kid, and the Titans had offered him in the class of 2021. He has had injury issues at Michigan, and only played in two games as a freshman. He saw action in 15 games this year, averaging 1 point and 1 rebound in six minutes per game. I don't know if our staff reached out to him, but he committed to Tulsa yesterday. I would have been willing to take a chance on him. If he gets healthy, he should be pretty good. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4683946/isaiah-barnes

Johnsons stats (1.3 ppg) certainly suggest he would be someone this staff would sign. Headed to Portland St. Isaiah Johnson was actually decent at Portland State, averaging 7 points on 55% shooting, while grabbing 3 boards in 18 minutes per game.

Here's a familiar name in the portal, Tray Jackson. I've been following him for a while; he was originally in the class of 2018 and spent his freshman year of high school at my old school, Ypsilanti Lincoln High. He took a big jump the summer after his freshman year. I remember contacting the Titans coaching staff about him and they offered him shortly after. He transferred to Detroit Western and made all state honorable mention in 2017. He reclassified to 2019 after a year at Sunrise Christian Prep. Ranked #56 in the ESPN Top 100. Committed to Minnesota, the de-committed from the Gophers and committed to Missiouri. He spent a year at Missiouri and then transferred to Seton Hall. Only appeared in 3 games there his first year, but was a regular member of the rotation the past two seasons. Averaged 6 points and 2 rebounds. 6-10, 215, but plays more of a small forward than power forward or center. Good three point percentage. Good free throw shooter, but doesn't get to the free throw line much. Plusses and minuses, but probably a guy worth talking to. Didn't blow up at Missiouri and Seton Hall the way he thought, so maybe he is ready to make a bigger impact at home. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4593010/tray-jacksonshupirates.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/tray-jackson/5596Tray Jackson verbally committed to Michigan.

Detroit kids just do not want to stay in Detroit. We talk about loyalty and Davis recruiting local more but that door swings both ways. Point where Staff feels like they are wasting time and energy. We have that up here with a Support Local campaign but local needs to support local also.

We were in the mix, but the young man decided he still wanted to play in a power conference. Jalen Thomas is also on the Bulldogs.

Hope we have reached out to this guy. I heard Coach Davis did look at his highlight YouTube video, but in the end decided to passover making a scholarship offer to this recruit. JC has been labeled a troublemaker of sorts with “excess baggage,” e.g., got caught putting wine in the team water jugs. Also, kind of a turnover machine, gets called for traveling so much they say he “walks on water.” Looks very skinny from his Twitter page photo, by comparison makes Antoine look like Charles Atlas.

Malcolm Flaggs of Arizona State is in the portal. He was in the recruiting class of 2022 and the Titans were his first D1 offer back in 2020. He walked on at ASU, joining his high school teammate, scholarship center Duke Brennan. Flagg was a redshirt this season while Duke played in 36 games, averaging 9 minutes per game. Duke is also in the portal, which is a surprise. As usual for this time of year, we have no idea how many scholarships the Titans need to fill this Spring/Summer. It's probably worth reconnecting with Flaggs and gauging his interest. If we liked him last year we probably like him at least as much now that he's a year older with a year at ASU behind him. And if he wants, he can bring that big (6-10/235) Brennan kid with him.
