I was thinking about the scholarship situation the other day and wow it's depressing. June is just about here and I have no idea how many players are on this team or how many openings we have. Assuming JJ Sr and the rest of the old coaching staff does not return, here are the names we have (not including Walk ons). I've guessed and put them in order of least likely to return to most likely to return:
T Jones - academic issues kept him off the team after a promising start. Rumored issues with BA McFolley - he has received permission to contact other schools, but I've heard nothing else. It sure looks like he's gone, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's back if the new Coach is to his liking JJ Jr - with Dad not returning, will he leave? I don't think it's as cut and dry as one may think Eichler - earlier this offseason, Tony Paul tweeted he was rumored to be on his way out via transfer, but I've heard nothing else. Ballantyne - often connected with JJ Jr (who could leave) Blackshear - plagued by injury problems (although often linked with possible transfer McFolley), I would think he'd be back - IF he's healthy Long - pleasant surprise last season/no rumors this offseason
So if everyone returns, we have 6 openings, but I would bet that a minimum of 1 or 2 (Jones, McFolley or Jackson) may leave (giving us 7 or 8 openings) with a max of 4 (Jones, McFolley, Jackson, Eichler) giving 10 openings
One edit: Of our 3 commits, Nelson has moved on and signed elsewhere. Hightower and Simmons have also de-committed, with Hightower reportedly receiving offers from other schools. No further info is available about Simmons, although it is possible both re-commit if/when a new coach is hired
Thoughts??

Agree, very likely we could still have more defections. If everything falls in the wrong direction, we could have Cole Long as the only returning scholarship player, and quite possibly he might jump this sinking ship too. The Titans carried four non-scholarship players last year (only two played), one or more could very well be in the starting lineup in 2018-19.
That’s a lot of scholarships for the new coach to fill, and the talent left out in the recruiting pool has got to be virtually all borderline D1 players. And as everyone knows, summer is just around the corner and apparently there in no urgency to fill the vacant HC position.

"Thoughts?" you ask. My thought is we lose a lot of games.
It's disappointing because w/ mcfolley, allen, Nelson, likely both Chatmans, there would have been talent. But I had zero confidence in the staff to manage that talent, even had they been able to keep it.

"Thoughts?" you ask. My thought is we lose a lot of games. I had to laugh just to keep from crying. What I meant was has anyone heard anything more concrete about the players listed? For example, a player took a visit/received an offer from another school or someone is definitely returning or leaving

Jack Ballantyne will not return next year. He will be transferring. I'm not surprised. I think that Ballantyne and JJJ have talent. The Titans had quite a bit of talent the last two seasons. But it just doesn't seem that BA and his staff knew what to do with it. I hate to see players leave, especially guys I think have talent. But it's probably for the best after the chaos of the last two years, and given the close connection of JJJ and Ballantyne to JJ. Davis will get his own guys and do his thing. Losing Corey Allen, though, will be a sore spot for a long time, especially when he leads the nation in scoring in 2021.

I think that JB has talent, but it seemed like he was never in really good physical shape last season, so it is hard to judge. Still, I would have liked to see him develop under an experienced coach like Davis. Yeah, Corey will thrive down at Georgia State.

Per verbal commits, confirming what we already knew, but what some refused to acknowledge: Detroit F Tariiq Jones (JR) is leaving the program. t.co/gCCIDjAWoz

Jones only played in 7 games for the Titans, but scored in double figures in four of those games and showed prowess as a rebounder. Unfortunately, his time with Detroit will be remembered for the SMD incident and his failure to stay academically eligible. Academic issues killed what on paper was a pretty good front line the past couple of years with Foster-Smith, Hogan, and T. Jones.

If he was healthy, I would have been really glad to have him. He had the worst luck with injuries. I had expectations that he would be a solid rotation guy based on what I read and heard about him prior to his arrival in Detroit. I'm glad he got his degree here, and I wish him the best going forward. Seemed like a solid, hard working young man.
