I think what irritates me the most is that I have been making decisions all of my life and all of a sudden I’m to stupid to make decisions concerning my own health? Hell I drive down the highway knowing I could be killed or injured but that is still my decision. We make decisions and deal with the consequences. That is kind of what life is all about! The saddest part of this whole thing is that we seem to respect the decisions of other less and are angered when their decisions do not coincide with ours. The word discussion will eventually disappear along with our history. The Commish is way ahead of things as usual as this thread is Talk Detroit Titans and he does not use discuss Detroit Mercy Titans.

In the "olden" days in HS Biology, they would have a class or 2 in regards to a virus, any virus in general, and they would teach that a virus, again in general, and zinc really, really don't like each other, and zinc will "disrupt" a virus enough for a person's T-Cells to handle the virus. Further a virus needs a host to survive, and will not mutate stronger because they don't want to kill the host pool they need to survive. Therefore they mutate weaker, perhaps like the current COVID.
So, again in the "olden" days, when a new virus began to proliferate the world, the procedures for dealing with it were to isolate the sick and protect the vulnerable. Now the new procedures now are to attempt to isolate everybody.
The result is that large sections of the economy were closed for months and citizens were placed under the equivalent of house arrest.
Maybe those old procedures worked.....

It's not good news for the men if asymptomatic players who had a positive test have to be quarantined. That would mean that any asymptomatic men's player with a positive test yesterday cannot play against Oakland on January 5th or Milwaukee on January 7th. The HL and its member universities have gone absolutely bonkers.

Well I thought it was good news. Everything I post just seems to go over like a lead balloon lately.. It's not you. Covid makes lead balloons out of a lot of things. From page 15 of the HL's winter sports quarantine policy that is posted on our website. I assume this remains in effect now. So, if a Tier 1 person tests positive, all Tier 1 people must be quarantined. And they cannot return to play until 10 days have past. The definition of a Tier 1 person is on page 9 of this policy.

If you’re going to start throwing around emotionally charged language about stuffing people into body bags, you also have to acknowledge that this pandemic has largely taken lives of people 65+. ... But, saying that vaccinated 20 year old men shouldn’t be allowed to play basketball games right now is just damn stupid. Looking at the coaching staff photos, I'd guess that if you eliminated coaches over 60 year old you'd end up with Mike Jr. and Will Finch coaching the team.

Mike Davis looks like he’s in pretty good shape, and when he started here I remember him talking about his personal exercise regimen that was rather impressive. He probably has a biological age of 45. You have to understand that just because older people on average are vulnerable to COVID, doesn’t mean that very healthy older people are very high risk. Although, if some fat unhealthy 70+ college coach is out there and doesn’t want to assume the risk, he should resign or take a year off if his school wants to allow it. We need to stop these insane measures and let people assume their own risks and live their damn lives. Don’t like it, don’t watch.

To quote a coworker of mine, "Some of you haven't spent the past 20 months stuffing people into body bags and it shows." I wish they would cancel sports. Maybe more people would start taking things seriously. After 2 years of being locked in, isolated, unable to travel etc. Cancelling sports isn't going to change any minds. I agree that all sports between unvacinated adults over 60 with immune problems should be seriously reconsidered. I do not agree that 20 y.o. individuals that are fully vaccinated showing no signs of illness should be isolated from other fully vaccinated 20 y.o. players. Your friend has not spent 20 months stuffing them into body bags. If one does not want to watch the game in person, that should be their choice. The lack of context and blanket application of rules to both young and old, healthy and unhealthy drives me crazy. This is from a fully vaxxed 70+ obese guy who stays away from doing some things because of COVID but does not expect the young to give up living because of my decisions. Play the games I personally knew two older adults who passed away after contracting Covid-19 from healthy twenty something year olds. Players don't live in a bubble off the court. And no one has spent two years locked up, isolated, and unable to travel. We had a short time where non-essential businesses were shut down. I am not a big travel guy and I have flown three times since July 2020.

If you’re going to start throwing around emotionally charged language about stuffing people into body bags, you also have to acknowledge that this pandemic has largely taken lives of people 65+. See stats about COVID deaths here: www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/I swear, it’s as if some people in 2020 learned for the first time that human beings are carbon based lifeforms vulnerable to viruses and diseases, and that we all die. It’s not always fair, and we could all reference odd circumstances where some healthy young person died. And, the inability of our healthcare system and hospitals to adequately care for all those infected during periods of this pandemic should not be overlooked, and we should use it as a learning experience moving forward. But, saying that vaccinated 20 year old men shouldn’t be allowed to play basketball games right now is just damn stupid. Sorry to be so rude and direct, but that’s stupid AF. Help seniors and those with health conditions stay home and safe as best we can. But FFS it’s time to get back to normal and let people live their lives. Don’t like it, don’t watch. It's not emotionally charged language, even if it triggers you. It's factual. And then, after making a point to mention "emotionally charged" language, you use "damn stupid". Don't apologize, though, just take that apology and stick it up your ass. How's that for charged?

I am not a big travel guy and I have flown three times since July 2020. This. If any of us have been locked in our homes for two years now, that's obviously reflective of a personal decision to stay inside. I've been all over the place since June, 2020. This isn't locking down the country... it's making decisions on when to play sporting events. If the games are played, I'll go. If they're canceled, I'll deal with it as best I can. I think if the vaccine would have had a better rate of "takers", we'd be in a significantly better place right now. It's fact that 88+% of the people who are getting extremely ill from the variants are unvaccinated. Any significant concerns about hospital bed vacancies, etc is directly related to vaccination status at this point. If we knew that holding these games (in the worst case scenario) would lead to significantly less critical illness... we'd probably be living in the world most of us want, where athletics aren't impacted.

I am not a big travel guy and I have flown three times since July 2020. Sorry if you took my shorthand verbiage literally. I know you can travel, but for the longest time you could not fly internationally and to Canada. For the second year we have cancelled our Caribbean vacation due to travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. I know elderly adults that have not left their house for months at a time and still have not entered a store. I personally feel isolated by being unable to communicate with people wearing masks. Having a severe hearing loss, I find it almost impossible to communicate in an environment where most people are masked. My point was that after all of this, cancelling a few basketball games is not going to change anyone's minds or actions. I just checked the Michigan Vaccination figures. It is disappointing to see that 26% of Oakland County residents over 12 are not fully vaccinated, but scary to see that 58% of Detroit are not. Based on that, UDM is over twice as likely to have Covid Cancellation of games as OU. I had no idea that many are still unvaccinated in Detroit. No wonder they have a 70% higher case load than Oakland. If you are older and not vaccinated, the world can be a scary place. But there is no excuse for the high percentages of unvaccinated in Oakland, and especially the high percentage in Detroit. There can't be that many religious or medical reasons not to be vaccinated. I just heard a from a friend whose grandson passed. He was under 35, but not vaccinated. Why not is I wanted to ask the grieving grandparents.

Sam, as a matter of fact I do not wear a seat belt. I have been driving the same route home for 55+ years and I dive the same speed today in the same areas of my trip as I always have irregardless of what posted recommended speeds are and they have changed through the years. I do respect the neighborhoods and property of others. I try to drive around the things others treasure the way I expect them to drive around things I value. That is my decision I do not do it because someone has made an arbitrary decision without the proper knowledge of equipment or ability. I do it because I feel it is the right thing to do.
