But you wear a seatbelt, right? You follow traffic rules regarding safe driving, don't you? You don't speed in pedestrian areas. We've had to abide by decisions that benefit the public good for all our lives. This isn't new. Sam, as a matter of fact I do not wear a seat belt. I have been driving the same route home for 55+ years and I dive the same speed today in the same areas of my trip as I always have irregardless of what posted recommended speeds are and they have changed through the years. I do respect the neighborhoods and property of others. I try to drive around the things others treasure the way I expect them to drive around things I value. That is my decision I do not do it because someone has made an arbitrary decision without the proper knowledge of equipment or ability. I do it because I feel it is the right thing to do. With no seatbelt, we'll all root for you to go accident free. 😁

My problem is with HL's current policy and procedures because they do not distinguish between people who have the virus in their bodies and whether they are sick or contagious. If all of us were tested for every single possibly fatal virus and bacteria out there, we would be surprised and very scared to learn how many pathogens are living in our bodies. But their mere existence in our bodies does not mean that they are a threat to us or other people who come in contact with us. If a testing lab can culture the Covid virus on anyone's positive sample, then that person is likely contagious and needs some form of medical treatment. If the virus on the sample cannot be cultured, then it is no threat to anyone. The HL's policy does not require samples to be cultured in order to learn whether they are a real threat.
The HL's policy makes no distinction between symptomatic and asymptomatic persons who test positive. Those are fancy words that describe whether or not the person is sick or not sick.
The HL's policy makes no distinction between variants of the Covid-19 virus. The Omicron variant does not contain an alteration to its spike protein that makes it dangerous like the original variant and its descendants. And this is why there are so many Omicron cases that are not prevented by the mRNA vaccines. Those vaccines focus on the alteration in those other virus versions that emulates a dangerous bacterial infection that can creep into our lower respiratory systems. The vaccines don't stop many Omicron cases because they are directed at something that does not exist in Omicron. In other words, Omicron is like the other coronaviruses that cause a lot of our common colds.
So, in the case of our men's team, we get to a situation where everyone is vaccinated and no one is sick. But they cannot play their games against opponents who are also presumably 100% vaccinated and not sick. But if you have an unvaccinated player or coach and they get a positive test result, but are not sick, you must forfeit all games that must be canceled under the league's policies that have not been updated since March 2021 even though the vaccination would not have prevented the unvaccinated person from reporting a positive Omicron test result.
I understand the logic of wearing a seat belt. I understand the logic of keeping sick people away from others like we did with Antoine and his flu back in December 2019. I do not understand the logic behind the current HL policy that keeps healthy young people from playing a game against other healthy young people. Especially when there is no documented case that has ever resulted from a player, coach or other official getting sick from this virus because they participated in a basketball game against each other. Remember when the league last year required us to play Oakland the first weekend because they reviewed the tape and proved that no Oakland player was ever within 6 feet of the Covid-positive official for more than 15 minutes during their game at UIC? The HL's Covid policies make no sense and are not logically consistent.

You will appreciate knowing that I have been slowing down in Detour for years and I have not been involved in an accident caused by my not being strapped down.

Why can't the media explain it that clearly and concisely? Even more important, why can't our leaders react to the evolution that is occurring that everyone has said would happen for since the beginning of this disease e.g. the virus would evolve and become less dangerous in order to survive? I wish it was only the HL that is acting crazy, but it extends to other leagues and society in general.

Bigchuck explanation is the "real" science, the reason the media is not clear and concise in regard to Omicon, or the leader's reaction is that they don't want to, they have their own agenda, as do many other people. People need to educate themselves and live their life according to what they are comfortable with.
If somebody wants to lock themself down fine, if somebody wants to drive alone in a BMW convertible in July with the top down wearing a mask fine, but don't force the general population to live the way they want to.
Virus infections have been around as long as humans have been around, if humans could not deal with virus infections there would be no people still around.
The comparison to Omicron and the common cold rather than the first Coovid-10 and Delta is reasonable and seems correct.

So, now the State of Michigan has declined to follow the new CDC guidelines for exiting quarantine or isolation after 5 days. This could render inapplicable the HL's new position posted above permitting practice after 5 days for all of our players who are not sick but tested positive. Also, this could make them ineligible to play our scheduled home game versus Oakland on January 5th if their positive test was taken 10 or fewer days ahead of January 5th. Why? Because the HL's policy defers to the policies of the State in which the member institution is located. Here is the link to the State of Michigan's announcement. Link

Damn, everyone dunking on this Sam guy like he’s IUPUI. 😂 The sad thing is, he doesn't deserve it. He's one of the fairest, most even tempered and thoughtful posters here. It's a shame when your opinion doesn't agree some of the stronger opinionated posters that you get "dunked on" or get referred to like this on social media:

Damn, everyone dunking on this Sam guy like he’s IUPUI. 😂 We shouldn’t be dunking on Sam. He is a good guy and a great Titan Fan. One thing that has evolved the last 6 or so years in this wonderful country of ours is the constant attacking of others whose opinions are different than what we deem correct. We need to somehow change this and have respect for others and yes I am also talking about myself.

Before the internet, he was what we called a Telephone Tough Guy.

When other games got called off last week, I predicted we would soon be busting our gut to get on the cancellation list. Call it a sneaking hunch! Being a fan and close observer of this program only since 2009, the phrase that comes to mind to describe the past 12 years is "Failure to ignite". Coaching/AD controversies/issues and inadequacies, injuries to key players, ineligibilities, suspensions, fights, losing games that would put us on map have mimicked a cursed program which may even parallel the Detroit Lions. I feel sorry for the fans. We had to suffer through this awful, putrid away game schedule to start the season with the hope and patience we would be at Calihan for much of the holidays. Only for more bureaucratic control to be fested on us by a league that has failed to change its rules to keep up with the changing virus. Fans have suffered too. We saw glimpses of a team starting to come together with wins against WMU and CMU and were truly excited to see this team progress.
I am glad this board allows all opinions and can accept the terror of the virus (I lost my 57 year old brother to COVID in September) but I also feel and don't condemn or cancel others for feeling dis-satisfied and frustrated with current politics that constantly seeks to control our daily life.
God please bless us all.
