Opening Vegas line has Oakland as 8 point favorites. That seems like a lot of points for the Titans to me.

Oakland
When: Sunday, February 13, 1:00 p.m. Where: McRena, Rochester, MI TV: ESPN+ Radio: WLQV 1500 AM & 92.7 FM
This is the one shot Oakland and Detroit get at one another this year, due to a combination of Covid and: A) The Horizon's rule against playing 5 consecutive road games B) Oakland's scheduling an extra buy game for the revenue instead of making up the scheduled game with Detroit C) Proposed makeup dates conflicted with Kampe's appointment with his hair stylist D) Does anyone really want to play a game they might lose?
Which Titan team will show up? The one that beat Northern Kentucky in Covington? Or the one that lost to Green Bay?
Oakland stopped a three game losing streak by beating Robert Morris on Saturday-but barely. I'm glad they got the win--I didn't want to face what is obviously a good team on a 4-game losing streak. Law of averages, if nothing else. Their recent struggles aside, the Grizzlies are unbeaten on the faux blacktop of the McRena, and this is a very serious challenge for the Titans, especially if Madut Akec is still on the sidelines. The Titans can't afford many more losses if they want a first round bye in the conference tournament next month.
This Oakland team has the usual attributes of a Kampe squad: they play at a fast pace, with the offense flowing through the point guard who logs an exceptional number of minutes; they make their free throws; they fire up a lot of treys; they ride their starters. One of the biggest differences may just be that they've been a poor three point shooting team, primarily due to the struggles this year of Jalen Moore.
Probable Oakland Starters: PG: #34 Jalen Moore, 5-11 RS Jr. (15.1 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 8.0 apg, 24.8% 3Pt). Moore is second in the nation in assists, after leading the country a year ago. He's prone to turnovers, however, and has struggled all year with his three point shooting (in his last 3 games, he's 2-17 from behind the arc, so I fully expect him to knock down 5 or 6 three on Sunday). Moore will likely be on the floor for at least 38 minutes, if not the whole game. In last year's 4 games with UD, Moore averaged 18 points and 11 assists.
SF: #3 Micah Parrish, 6-6 RS Fr. (10.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 32.9% 3Pt). F: #4 Trey Townsend, 6-6 RS Fr. (15.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg).
F: #23 Chris Conway, 6-10 RS Fr. (2.1 ppg, 1.4 rpg). Conway starts, but he won't play a lot. He's yet to play even 15 minutes against a D1 opponent this year, and in OU's last 6 games has played a total of 26 minutes.
F: #1 Jamal Cain, 6-7 Gr. (20.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 29.2% 3Pt). Probably Antoine Davis's main competition for HL POY, the Marquette transfer is the guy who's made this OU team. He has 12 double-doubles, and it will be interesting to see what Coach Davis comes up with for defending against him. I mean, I guess it will be our standard zone to start, but we may need a backup plan.
Bench G: #11 Blake Lampman, 6-3 RS Soph. (7.2 ppg, 36.2% 3Pt). Though he comes off the bench, Lampman is likely to play 30 minutes and more. He's been OU's most reliable three point threat this year.
G: #13 Osei Price, 6-5 Fr (4.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 42.6% 3Pt).
Lampman and Price are the only guys likely to see serious time off the bench. 6-8 freshman Will Shepherd may get a couple minutes. Zion Young, who shot 16-27 (59.3%) from three against Detroit last year, and 29.5% against everyone else, has been out since December.
In 8 career games against Oakland, Antoine Davis has averaged 22.8 points, including 57 points in the two games played at the McRena last year. We need a good game from Antoine on Sunday.

If those are the only cases to be made for Horizon POY at this point, I'd have to give the nod to Cain at the moment. Thank God he's not a "volume shooter" or he'd already have this thing locked up. Happy to see AD light them up at the McRena and start to change the narrative tomorrow. As I noted yesterday, it just feels like we need this win over the Pioneers worse than usual. They've actually been much better than I'd expected they'd be this year. Had they come in looking as I expected, Cain would be averaging 42ppg

Waterman all alone in the corner two times in a row and Davis cranks up a prayer and then runs a little game with Willieand Willie misses. Why we do not get the ball to our real shooters Waterman and Harvey.

I keep thinking playing these games without Akec is like a - 10. We need his scoring, D and boards.

Missing Akec on offense as we are too dependent on the three so far.

We started great, we finished poorly. I don’t like the momentum going into the second half.

We started great, we finished poorly. I don’t like the momentum going into the second half. About 6 minutes to end that half without a FG. Would feel better up 6-10 at this point. Need a solid effort for the next 20, grab this win and get back to Calihan.

This feels like a bad joke. They finally hit a few shots and we changed what was working. I still feel like when Koka is on the floor we are a man short. When he gets on the floor it’s like raising a red flag. Just had a perfect chance to take a charge but raised his hands and backed up instead of a charge it becomes a block. Put Willie back in!
