It’s disappointing that so many of you have to look for excuses pertaining to this loss. Oakland is simply a better team and it showed. I think it’s time for a new coach. Someone young and hungry that can emulate what Kampe has done and to achieve success with low to mid-range talent. Excuse me. I was venting my frustration at the loss. And at the Covid this season that forced us to cancel 4 of our first 5 conference home games. And at the injuries this season to Waterman, Akec and Phillips. And, now, maybe Willy. And at yesterday's FT disparity. Maybe some posters here ought to stop behaving like they are auditioning to be in-game analysts on FloHoops and start acting like fans who have this team's back - even when things are tough. Yeah, let's cut and run again - just like we did in 2016 when we had a similar record - for a younger coach. How'd that work out? Blaming the coach is just another excuse. You vent in your way. I vent in my way. Then, I get back to the multi-year process of achieving something tangible here in Athletics before I'm too old to realize that we have succeeded. It's extremely frustrating to deal with the bureaucracy at the University of Detroit Mercy. I'm amazed that I am not yet on blood pressure meds. I'm used to making a decision and implementing it - not farting around through multiple administrative departments while each deal-killer gets a say. We're 7-6 in the HL having played 11 of those 13 games on the road. We can win all 4 remaining home games. Let's make some noise in the stands and back our team to finish 11-6 in the HL and enter the playoffs with positive momentum.

The HL is a guard-oriented league but regardless of that it's difficult to win without at least some interior presence. Not a star, but at least a big man of some note. Coach Davis' biggest shortcoming, in my opinion, is that he never landed a big man. Kuol, Akec, Isiani are all good small or power forwards, but we haven't had a capable center in the past four years.

Live by the three, die by the three. With zero inside presence on offense, you won't beat good teams with any regularity. Once the three balls stopped dropping with five minutes left in the first half, Oakland completely dominated.
It's like the Tigers sitting around waiting for a three run bomb. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, your offense sucks something fierce.

As far as I am concerned OU is a chickens*** team coached by a chicken s*** coward that needed 15 more chickens*** calls by a crew of chickensh** officials to win this game on their chickens*** home court. A game that could have been a good rivalry game (we still may not have won it) ruined by the chickens*** officials and their 27-9 FT discrepancy. Kampe will always be a blowhard coward to me. Much respect to Coaches Nagy and Horn for fitting both of their rivalry games into an equally stressful schedule. In the near future, I may post how I really feel about things. Personally, I must have missed what you saw. The refs didn't steal that one from us. I think we win that game with a better inside game and Akec was probably enough to make up the difference. On our home court, I'd definitely bet on us this year... for whatever that's worth. I wonder with Jordan Phillips and Akec in this game how it would of rolled. I know we haven's see much from Jordan but he really hasn't had anytime to put reps in with the team either. Akec and DJ were rough at the begining of the season but have grown well in there positions. It would be nice if we can retain are team for next year. Also if any team in this HL could get a couple of guys that could really play the 5 spot with size, that school would dominates the HL.

Missing Akec on offense as we are too dependent on the three so far. Those early threes falling like that are almost always fool's gold. Unless you're the Golden State Warriors you can't keep that up. Once the threes stopped falling, we became stagnant on offense again. It was predictable, which is why I didn't get too excited about the early lead. Missing the players we were without hurt for sure, but this roster is clearly not where we need it to be to compete for the top of the league night in and night out.

The loss of Akec (in my opinion) hurt us more yesterday than I could imagine. His ability to do work inside would have certainly helped a ton. They were able to close out on our shooters with virtually no risk of getting burned underneath. The most impressive big man in the game was Cain... and he's a SG/SF. ☹

Akec and Willy for a full game would have made a little difference. But even with them, Oakland is a better team and likely still wins. It's a shame that the staff hasn't been able to get a second/third true complementary piece to one of the most talented players this conference has seen in the last decade. The pieces they have are OK, but their shortcomings make them far from enough to contend. They have had a top few kid, talent-wise, in the conference over the last decade FOR FOUR YEARS and haven't even come close to sniffing a conference championship. That's really bad.

To win on the road, you have to shoot the 3-ball above 33%. We continued to get the makeable shots, but could not convert in the clutch. There are things that we can control like recruiting an effective power rebounder. We failed to do that. You need one of those guys if you want to shoot the 3. And there are things that happen that are out of our control like Covid and injuries. The more successful teams in the HL have all benefited from their multi-week scheduled conference home stands. And they have remained relatively injury and Covid-free. Despite all of these obstacles, we can still win all 4 remaining games. CSU, WSU and NKU have all proven gettable when they are on the road. We seem to be a streaky rather than a consistent team. Now would be the time to start a 4-game winning streak and close the HL season at 11-6 for a .647 winning percentage. Do the guys able to play have the mental fortitude to accomplish this goal?

Do you realize that if we do run off 4 straight, it will be the 2nd time we've done so since Ray McCallum was directing Carlton Brundidge on the court? If nothing else, we're due.
