The Panthers have landed Akeem Springs, a transfer from Northern Illinois. www.brewcityball.com/forums/content.php?617. A 6-3 guard, Springs averaged 7.7. points and 2.9 rebounds per game as a freshman averaging about 20 minutes per game before leaving the Huskies in early February. His best game was a 21 point, 9 rebound effort in December against... Milwaukee. Apparently Rob Jeter was impressed. Springs was obviously unhappy at NIU but there were no reported discipline or academic problems. His scoring average is more impressive, perhaps, when you realize that NIU was the lowest scoring team in the country. OTOH, despite scoring some points, he's a #2 guard who shot just 33% overall and 25% from the trey. He'll sit out 2013-14 and then have 3 years of eligibility.

Milwaukee announced today that it is moving its home games back to Cellular Arena downtown. Overall, this is probably good. It's an awfully big venue, and I tend to like smaller, fuller arenas. But Klotschke wasn't a very good place. Cellular is more big time and probably helps them with press, not to mention the occasional large crowd.

I have a soft spot for that arena since it was known as the Mecca Arena, hope of the Milwaukee Bucks, so I'm glad to see that. I should plan a trip there for either the Titans game or the DePaul game next year, depending on which one is on the weekend.

It appears that small forward Austin Arians is going to redshirt for MIlwaukee. Arians has missed the team's first four games with an ankle injury. With Milwaukee ineligible for the post-season due to APR problems, this probably makes sense for all concerned. By the end of the month Arians will have missed a quarter of the season. Rather than trying to hurry the recovery on what is already looking like a lost season (the Panthers are 1-3 with all losses by double digits and the win over non-DI Minnesota Crookston, and as noted are ineligible for the postseason) Arians can allow a proper healing process and be fit for two more years. As a sophomore last season, Arians averaged 11.1 ppg, shooting 37% from three-points.

If anyone is interested in scouting Milwaukee, their game against DePaul is being televised on Fox Sports One right now.
Milwaukee is currently down 23-12 with six minutes plus left in the first half.

Milwaukee picked up a commitment from Murray State transfer JayQuan McCloud. McCloud, a freshman guard from Chicago, left the team in September with plans to transfer closer to home. No disciplinary issues or anything, apparently just homesick. He had offers out of high school from a number of upper mid-majors, such as Rhode Island, Indiana State, Wright State, and Nevada.

Trinson White is transferring. The juco junior played a lot early in the season, but sat out 9 of the Panthers final 11 games and appeared unlikely to play much next season. The 6-5 guard averaged 2.8 ppg and 1.9 rpg on the season.

The 6-5 guard averaged 2.8 ppg and 1.9 rpg on the season. White kind of reminds me of Matt Grant of the Titans. He played a lot at the beginning of the season, but didn't really contribute a lot. Doesn't turn the ball over, but doesn't seem to do much of anything else to warrant a lot of playing time. Looks like the Milwaukee staff decided that wasn't enough to keep him in the rotation.

All time series is 31-2 Badgers. Very good win for Milwaukee, even if Big Brother is in a down year.

This one slipped below my radar, but sophomore Justin Jordan has left the program at Milwaukee. Last year he had a reasonably successful freshman year. He made 15 starts, and over the last 13 games, he averaged over 26 minutes per game. In the first 4 games this year, he averaged 15.8 minutes. But with juco transfer Jordan Johnson playing so well and Murray State transfer Jayquan McLeod waiting to become eligible (which he did this week), I guess he decided he wasn't going to play enough. Justin Jordan left the team on November 20.
With a win over Wisconsin, I don't think Panther fans are giving it too much thought.

The Panthers are 4 minutes away from a second road win over a Big 10 team. They lead Minnesota by 12 with 3:45 to play.
