Maybe I missed this previously, and maybe we even talked about it and I forgot, but Novian Cherry has committed to Savannah State. Of course, with Cherry, you really can't be sure until the season starts. :-) www.hbcugameday.com/2015/07/novian-cherry-savannah-state-meac-basketball.htmlNote: I had read in a cryptic tweet a while back that Cherry only had one year of D1 eligibility left. That's not what my previous understanding was, but Verbal Commits lists him as a senior for Savannah State in 2015-16. Talk about a kid who has royally screwed himself over. This kid had lot of offers from upper-mid major schools like WKU and UD. PS - I think he's a junior this fall. VC is basing it off his HS graduation year of 2012, but he took a year off (enrolled in prep school that was pretty much fraudulent, I believe). I think we talked before about Cherry leaving Savannah State. Looks like he's going the D2 route. Hindsight is 20/20, but the kid would have been better off coming to U of D with those three years of eligibility. If nothing else, he would have walked out with a valuable degree and some good contacts. Someone had him convinced he was high major material, though. I still have the feeling this might not be the last we hear from Mr. Cherry. What a journey he has taken. He never should have reclassified. erbal Commits @verbalcommits 3m3 minutes ago Former Savannah State G Novian Cherry is transferring to Cal State San Marcos (DII). @humble_02 verbalcommits.com/players/novian-cherry …

Jackson decides on Duquesne. I'm glad he was able to find a spot. Based on their roster, it looks like a better situation for him, and he did say he wanted to be closer to home. Pittsburgh is less than a five hour drive from Detroit. TJ Kelley @scoopips 51m One-time UTEP commit and Detroit E English Village 2014 grad Marq'ywell Jackson commits to Duquesne. I don't know if we mentioned this here, but Jackson is red shirting this year. Poor Mr. Jackson can't seem to find a place to stay. First UTEP, then Duquesne, now Moberly Area Community College. I wonder how things would have worked out for him at U of D. Right now, things are kind of a mess for him. He appeared in 25 games for Duquesne last year, playing ten minutes per game, averaging just under four points per game. Cracked double figures four times in A-10 play. I'm surprised he is moving on. Former Michigan Mr. Basketball and Titan offerree DeShaun Thrower has transferred from Stony Brook to Ferris State, where he will play both football and basketball. Thrower and a Seawolf teammate were charged in April with smashing a car window with a rock and snatching $5000. A hearing was set for May 2, then June 13, and is now set for September 14. He was removed from the Stony Brook roster in late June or early July, suggesting (maybe) that the University/Coach did not think he merited unqualified support.
Thrower averaged 19 minutes a game as a freshman, playing in all 35 games and starting several games late in the year (he averaged over 27 mpg over the last 10 games of the year). He had his best game in March of 2015, with 18 points and 7 rebounds in an America East semi-final tournament win over Vermont. As a soph, however, he fell back in the rotation, playing in just 26 games and averaging under 9 minutes per game. He scored 11 points in the season opener but did not reach double figures again.
Hope he gets his stuff together. Thrower was a great 2-sport high school athlete, but didn't have quite the raw physical ability to a top D-I player. He should star at Ferris if he makes the most of this second chance.

I remember being real high on Frederick when the Titans were reportedly recruiting him. I'm surprised he didn't turn into a better player. Maten has become quite a player. I'm happy to see him doing so well. Of course, those award lists aren't what they used to be, given the fact that so many players leave college for the NBA.
Maten could have a shot at playing in the NBA, which is something I wouldn't have expected when he was in high school.

I've not heard of Novian Cherry before, but this was found on the twitter verse. Looks like he's a JUCO kid at Mesa College in San Diego. FiveStarRecruits @5starrecruits 28 Jun '14 G Novian Cherry's top 12: GA State, Hawaii, SEMO, NCCU, NC A&T, SFA, Loyola MD, Stoney Brook, UALR, UT Martin, Bethune Cookman & Detroit Three and a half years ago, we first heard about Novian Cherry. Little did we know the twisting path he would take to end up...Where? Hope he gets his degree, wherever he ended up.

Jordan Nobles was one of our front court targets back in 2014. He had a Titan offer, but once the Titans signed Hogan and Foster-Smith, Nobles signed with EMU. At the time, Nobles seemed to be more of a project, but he is starting to live up to his potential. He was took a red shirt year as a freshman, and after appearing in 29 games last year as a red shirt freshman, this season his improvement is apparent. He has moved into the starting lineup recently, and in the past five games he is averaging 12 points and 8 rebounds per game. He has totaled six blocks and eight steals during that time. With the Titans as thin up front as they are, it would be nice to have Nobles, but hindsight is 20/20 of course.

Remember this name? Tanveer Bhullar. We were originally recruiting him out of Toronto - 7'+ tall, 300+#'s. He is graduating/transferring from New Mexico St and will be eligible immediately. He played very sparingly this past season

I didn't know Dawkins was at Cleveland State. Expect the Vikings to continue to recruit the Detroit area and the State of Michigan.

Georgia big man Yante Maten will declare for the NBA Draft without an agent, source told ESPN.

He has now committed to D-II Pittsburgh State in Kansas. Long travels for Mar'qywell--originally committed to UTEP, left before the season began, going to Duquesne, then to Moberly CC in Alabama, and after a feint at CSU, off to Pittsburgh, Kansas. It seems to have been at least somewhat mental for Mar'qywell, and that's the kind of stuff we can't see that coaches have to investigate.

Ray and his staff had a great eye for talent. They just couldn't land enough of it.
