With the word that Loyola, UIC, and Valpo are being visited by the MVC for potential membership, the Titans are on the brink of being royally screwed.
Valpo has won two state regular season titles. Can the league afford to lose it's last several regular season champs (with Butler leaving last year)? What if all three go, to bring the MVC to 12? Then a) they probably won't expand further (meaning no UD); and more importantly b) The Horizon will be down to six teams - with some rumors that YSU wants out to join a FBS football league. It will lose its auto bid, its Chicago connection, and its most recent NCAA entry.
It's interesting that the MVC wants its new members in place by July 1. We sit here 12 months after Butler left and the Horizon has announced nothing. The A10 added GMU within weeks of Xavier and Butler departing.
Maybe we'll join the Summit; or the WAC. I feel like I've been punched in the stomach.

Who knows, maybe we'll get into the mix for the MVC. If they are going to poach three teams from the Horizon, going with Detroit, Valpo and only one of the two Chicago teams would seem to be a better plan. Why take two teams from Chicago? There are rumors that we are talking to the A-10, so who knows how this is all going to play out. Worst case scenario is probably a badly picked over Horizon merges with the Summit, and that's where UDM gets stuck.

Imagine ending up in the Summit after the hopes some of us had just weeks ago about getting into the Catholic Seven.
That would be a disaster.

Of course, that's a worst case scenario. I really don't expect us to lose three teams to the MVC.

Like I said in my post, Titan Mac, I think that's a worst case scenario. I don't think we'll end up in the Summit and I don't think we'll lose three teams to the MVC.

We could well be in danger of breaking up. So be it.

I think the choice of our new AD will tell us a lot about how we will handle this issue. If Horn is promoted, we will stay in the Horizon. If we hire DeFruscio, we will be looking at the A-10 or other eastern alternatives. Of course, all of this assumes that the MVC will actually select Valpo and a Chicago school to replace Creighton and Wichita State. However, you cannot blame the MVC for looking at the Chicago market as one possible solution to the loss of Creighton and the rumors about Wichita State looking westward.

I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. I've said it many times before LeCrone has the brain the size of a mustard seed. He should've jumped on Evansville the moment they wanted to leave the MVC. It seems as if the ideal he can come up with is to poach a team from the Summit. For once I wish LeCrone would think outside of the box.
