I wonder if Coach Stephens will be able to get former Spartans Watts and Marble over to Kalamazoo.

The Broncos weren't expected to be good this season, and they have met expectations. They're coming off their most painful loss of the year, a one point setback to Akron where they gave up an 11-0 run to close the game. WMU is 4-13, 0-6 in conference play. Booker James ain't walking through that door. Lamar Norman has provided good production, scoring 19 ppg. Markese Hastings hasn't been as effective, scoring 8.8. Of course, WMU is hurting without guard B. Artis White, who suffered a season ending injury in game seven. The Broncos could use the 14 ppg he provided last year. On the plus side, the Broncos have several freshmen and sophomores getting experience and should have White back next season. They also have two good looking high school recruits signed for 2022, both Michigan natives. The rough season for the Broncos continued, resulting in an 8-23, 4-16 record. The team never put together more than two wins in a row. They did split the season series with CMU and EMU. The WMU leadership decided to make a coaching change and hired Dwayne Stephens away from Michigan State. Stephens is a respected assistant, but as we know too well, not every assistant makes a good head coach. We'll see how this works out. Markeese Hastings will be the top returnee for the WMU, if he avoids the portal. He averaged 9 and 9 last season. Leading scorer Lamar Norman is trying his pro luck. The Broncos did land a couple of solid Michigan high school recruits, and recently added transfer Trey Maddox.

WMU adds guard Jefferson Monegro out of Orangeville Prep. The 6-4 Canadian had offers from Bryant and Wyoming, along with an older offer from Oklahoma State.

The Broncos Cam Kimble, get a kid out of Nevada. Kimble in the transfer portal. Averaged two points per game this past season.

The Broncos with a notable pick up for the class of 2022 as Seth Hubbard of Huntington Prep committed to WMU. Hubbard, a Georgia native, is a three star guard per 24/7, and had offers from Wichita State and East Carolina. 24/7 ranks him the #210 player in the nation in the class of 2022. 247sports.com/player/seth-hubbard-46111522/The Broncos also have their "In progress" 2022-23 roster posted. It's not completely up to date, but I do like the fact that they have it posted. wmubroncos.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

WMU gets a game I would have liked for us to get, November 30 at Dayton.

Actually, we lost by 98-59. Then, the next night we lost at Toledo 101-57. Yeah, but I don't want to avoid teams just because they crushed us before. It's a chance for a big win, and if we lose, it's still a payday.

The Broncos with a solid pick up: Milwaukee junior transfer forward Tafari Simms. Decent stats for Simms: 7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, in 21 minutes per game. Hit 33-37 from the free throw line last season. Former JUCO player. 6-7, 212.

The Broncos struggled in the first season of the Coach Stephens era, finishing at 8-23, 4-14 in conference. It had been observed prior to the season that the Broncos had brought in a group of talented freshman guards, and all three of them (Hubbard, Monnegro, and Hannah) each averaged around 20 minutes per game, gaining valuable experience. All of them showed potential and so far they are all coming back. Leaving via the portal is Markese Hastings, who averaged 8 points and 9 rebounds per game.
WMU is like a lot of mid majors; trying to survive in this new college basketball world of NIL and free agency.

WMU scores what could turn out to be very good late commitment. Shemani Fuller, a 6-9 forward out of the Bronx, committed to the Broncos for 2021. Fuller is a former Fordham commit and also had eary offers from St. John's, DePaul, UMass and others. Don't know the story behind how he was still available at this late stage, but WMU is glad to have him. The Broncos staff cast a wide net for recruits this year. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/shemani-fuller-259203This commitment did not work out the way I thought it might for the Broncos. Fuller sat out in 2021-22, and only appeared in 11 games this season, averaging 1.4 points per game. He hit the portal and has commited to Division II Clark in Atlanta. You just never know how it will work out with recruits.
