As has been stated here, Dayton doesn't like being called a mid major, and yesterday's game is an example of why. The hosted an ACC team in front of a sold out crowd of over 13 thousand, won the game, improved to 7-4 (after a slow start they've won 6 of 7), and added another high major scalp to the ones they took from Miami and Kansas. Dayton is for real. They are one of the teams I look at with envy and say, "what if?". I wonder if they ever considered changing their name to the University of Dayton Marianist. 🤔 I bet not. They look to be interested in improving the brand not crushing it. Detroit is one of the many examples that prove how much damage can be inflicted on an institution when the wrong people obtain a position of decision making.

Check out the Big East thread for details on the week that Xavier had.

A-10 January snapshot.
Davidson is surprisingly leading the league at 6-0, 16-2. Foster Loyer is playing well for Davidson, averaging 16 and 3. St. Bonnie, picked in some preseason top 25 lists, is 11-4, 3-1. Bunched up near the top are the usual suspects: Dayton, St. Louis, VCU, Rhode Island.
I think the A-10 will land more teams in the Big Dance than the AAC.

I agree. Looks like they were set up nicely for the future, and Kellogg is a coach who has proven he could get them to the post season. Dumb move to throw that away. And then they hired the guy from Winthrop who changed his mind and decided he wouldn't accept the job AFTER the press conference to announce his hiring. What a mess. Another example from the "gotta go for more" school of hard knocks. UMass ended up with Matt McCall. I don't know anything about McCall, really, except a few raw numbers. As his first head coaching job he had taken over a loaded Chattanooga team (15-3 in the Southern conference the year before, only 1 meaningful graduation) in 2015. He got them to 29 wins and an NCAA appearance his first year, but then dropped by 10 wins in his second year, then got the Mass job. Recruitment-wise, after two years at the helm he left almost nothing for his successor when he took the Mass job. UMass lost 20 games last year (his first at the helm) and is 7-11 overall and 0-5 in a really down A10 this year. Most of his best players are still guys recruited by his predecessor, Derrick Kellogg. He does have only 1 senior making major contributions, so maybe he's gonna turn this around--it's only his 2nd year, after all. But you gotta wonder. UMass struggled in Kellogg's last two years (14-18, 15-18) but had an excellent incoming recruiting class. In the 4 years prior to that Kellogg's teams had averaged 22 wins, made the Minutemen's first NCAA appearance since 1998, and been nationally ranked for the first time since 1999. Kellogg landed at Long Island, and got them to the NCAA tournament last year. Three years after this post, UMass is firing Matt McCall. He never got anything going there and killed the momentum created by his predecessor. It's a familiar story.

Davidson head coach Bob McKillop is retiring after 33 years at the helm. His son will be taking over.
Heck of a career, including that 2008 Elite Eight run with Steph Curry.

This week, Dayton has announced home and home series with UNLV and SMU.
Yeah, they used to be in our conference.

Some teams take advantage summer workouts and even post photos. Some schools have enough players for a team

One of my favorite movies. You are correct. Heck, the coach played with 4 (actually 3 1/2 - the short guy said he only counted as 1/2 a player) during one game to prove a point

If we were worried and concerned about the program in the past, it seems like it's getting worst

Real teams are together, getting to know each other and training together, but to do that there should be a team first attitude with a real leader. Not someone who spends their summers with self promotion! Like I said before we lack a leader!
