The JB to Indianapolis news breaks about 3 years to the day of the news that he was transferring from Detroit.
D2 might be the right level for him at this point. And I thought he might be a tough sell to D1 programs, given his history. I am pretty sure CMU had room for him if they wanted to take him.

I agree, I thought he might end up at Wayne State, but I dont think he'd last a semester under David Grier.

Congrats, Jack! I hope that you and JJJ enjoy one last magical summer together before going away to separate colleges.

Jack should be an effective player for Indy. Currently averaging 1.1 ppg for UIndy. I looked up his stats last month, just out of curiosity. He's appeared in nine of the team's fourteen games, totaling ten points. Doesn't seem to be a talent issue with Jack. He seemed to have the ability. athletics.uindy.edu/sports/mens-basketball/roster/jack-ballantyne/11077

JJJ has decided to chase the league. Seems like JJJ has been chasing the league since he started jumping around in high school. Which is strange, because I don't think any objective observer ever tabbed him as a future NBA player. We had three guards on the roster at the same time, Josh McFolley, Corey Allen, and Jermaine Jackson, Jr. They each took different paths. Josh played all four years with the Titans, put up 1400 plus points, piled up a bunch of steals, and I think he is well liked and respected by the fanbase. He didn't see much team success, but as a freshman he played a key role on a winning team and got to experience a conference tourney win downtown. He's one of my favorite Titans in recent years. Corey played two years with the Titans, establishing himself as a legit college player, and did a good job while he was here. I've been a fan of his since he was in high school, so I was happy to see him excel individually as a Titan. I understood his reasons when he left for Georgia State and reunited with the coach who recruited him to U-D. There he has continued to excel as a player while playing on a winning team and enjoying his teammates and coaches. He stayed with GSU after a coaching change, and even stayed around for this season, his "super" senior year. Averaging 15 ppg this year. We know JJJ's story. Freshman year at U-D, which showed some promise. Then a transfer followed by a year in limbo, only to turn up at LIU. Two years there, putting up a lot of shots on sub .500 team, and then it's back to Michigan to sign with CMU. Quits the team halfway through the season with the team's record at 2-12. I can't speak for any of them, and I don't know how each of them feel about their college careers. But one thing is clear: the choices you make matter in the long run. One other thing: How many people would have picked Gerald Blackshear to have a better college career than Jack B?

The tombstone of his college career ending with "quits the team halfway through the season" is an apt summary of his continual bizarre college, life and 'career' choices along the way. It's been rehashed on this board all over the places about these two, but sheesh what a long winding and ultimately very unfruitful past many years it has been for them - and they never seemingly took a deep breath and then course corrected to a good path. I don't know. I saw JJJ play as a Junior in high school and he was pretty dang good, undersized, but good ball handler, confident player, team leader, etc. I certainly envisioned a path that didn't look like this. Again, I hope you find whatever it is you are searching for JJJ and that hopefully you picked up a degree and some positive college course experiences/skills for your adult days.

JJ didn’t do Ballantine any favors! Dragged him along with Jr. . Of the two he had the better offers out of HS. Kid was impressionable and the extra weight and season off ruined him. I checked his stats at Indianapolis and he is barely seeing the floor and doing very little in D2. If there was any talent it’s gone now.

Man, what a train wreck the JJJ/JB story has turned out to be. I saw JJJ’s post about going pro and I came here immediately to join the laughter. When he says starting his pro career, I assume he means selling Gildan brand tshirts that he and he dad printed “Chasing The League” on with an online web store based in Vietnam. What a joke. I do feel bad for JB. He had some talent and height but he never developed after HS. He got caught up in the entitlement and NBA baller lifestyle that he and JJJ liked to post on Twitter when they were in HS. As said, he had talent but now it’s long gone. Hopefully JB has been paying attention during his schooling and he is ready to work hard in the next stage of his life. As for JJJ, we’ll see. I assume his dad has enough connections to get him some contract in Europe in some B or C league, but it’ll be the kind of thing that barely pays enough to get by - having multiple roommates and no way to save a dime. Buy hey, I’m sure pops will subsidize him. That’ll last for a year, maybe two if he’s lucky. Then, I assume JJJ will enter coaching or run some development camp. Question is, will the Jackson family continue to help out JB by finding him work? Maybe they’ll cut him in on a 5% equity stake in Chasing The League?

Jack didn't do himself any favors; I wouldn't blame his current situation on the Jacksons. Both made their own decisions. Jack wasn't obligated to follow JJJ around. I still think the smart move for Jack would have been to stay in Detroit under Mike Davis. If he was willing to put in the work, he probably would have been starting as a sophomore and would not have had that year in limbo. As you pointed out, that season off seemed to do a lot of damage.
