I think pretty highly of Bilas, but I disagree with him when he says this is all about the money and uses it to flog his favorite cause of pay for the players. The NCAA's money comes from the tournament. They'll get that whether they start in January or December. Meanwhile, small schools aren't getting their big paydays from guarantee games. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if most everyone outside the P6 conferences is losing quite a bit of money, and the P6 conferences, while making money from TV, are missing out on a ton of planned revenue. (Ohio State, for example, probably suffers a reduction in income of about $250,000 net revenue per game without fans in attendance; I don't know if all the P6 schools are coming out ahead with just the television revenue). And certainly most mid-major players don't think they're going to the NBA. But they still want to play. And fans want them to play. Remember FDR in WWII encouraged major league baseball to play on--more than ever, he said, people needed the diversion. The NCAA takes a lot of crap, much of it deserved, but its mission is nearly impossible. The P5 schools make money in football, and along with the Big East in basketball, and perhaps a few individual mid-majors do, too. Everyone else is losing money, and as hard as the athletes work, they are still students, and those full-ride scholarships are a pretty good deal. I'm sure many of us think playing now is a mistake, but I'll bet every one of us is still getting some pleasure from being able to watch and discuss hoops and the Titans again. Different people and institutions have different interests, but on the whole I think playing a non-conference schedule is less about the money and more about the fans and players.

As long as we remain hostage to PCR test results above a 25 cycle threshold, we are going to remain paralyzed about this virus. IMO, the problem is not that the NCAA is a bunch of money grubbers. The problem is that the more vulnerable people health-wise but more secure job-wise are making the policy decisions for the much less vulnerable health-wise but less secure job-wise and money-wise. The diversion of college basketball and our new and improved Titans are two of the best things to happen in an otherwise dreary and tedious year. Thus, I agree with Commissioner's opinion above.

Ya right! So Dickey V can get more attention. What is going to be so much better in March? I think we need to work our way through this.

I really have a hard time felling bad for these coaches complaining about how hard it is to prepare their teams for a basketball game. There are a lot of people really suffering, THEY ARE NOT !

What ever Mikey wants Mikey gets. His team looks much weaker than normal this year so he must have figured that out and wants his season to end ASAP.

What ever Mikey wants Mikey gets. His team looks much weaker than normal this year so he must have figured that out and wants his season to end ASAP. Coach K drops a couple of games and decides to take his ball and go home. Per Jeff Goodman on Twitter, Duke won't be playing anymore non-conference games.

I know someone that caught it in April and again in August, you can definitely catch it twice.

I know someone that caught it in April and again in August, you can definitely catch it twice. I don’t thinks Oats is saying you can’t catch it twice, rather that you likely have immunity for at least five or so months: “Nobody can get it from me. I’m still within 150 days that the NCAA recommended.”

RBJs buddy would also appear to disprove the 150 day thing too. I hope the NCAA rule is based on something logical but it is the NCAA so???
