Why would that be the best thing?

Why would that be the best thing? Because we all know that’s where this is going anyway. Don’t you work at a university? Everything I am reading says basically no events, no guests, no student travel except for serious exceptions. Campuses are attempting to be self contained communities as much as possible this fall. There will be no college basketball during the fall semester so just let the fans aware of that and make it easier for these teams to sever these contacts already. I don’t have inside information when it comes to Titan recruiting, but I can tell all y’all right now that college basketball will not be played this fall semester.

Even though I’ve added a couple posts to the thread, I consider this one of the most boring threads to appear in the 7 year history of the board. Just my personal opinion.

If I had to give my opinion (& my opinion doesn't matter), I'd be with the 32%

Dominoes continue to fall and I'm in the camp of just rip the band aid now so that there is certainty of what the fall looks like and folks can plan and work with that reality. Juco football is expected to announce this afternoon shifting football to the spring --> www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29452386/national-junior-college-athletic-association-expected-move-football-season-spring "The National Junior College Athletic Association is expected to approve a proposal that would move its football season to the spring, according to Dr. Christopher Parker, the NJCAA president and CEO. The decision, first reported by The Athletic, will affect 54 football-playing members of its association, which is made up of 512 schools. "This plan gives our student-athletes the best opportunity to have as much of a quality season in the spring for all sports, while also allowing some time and engagement when allowed by their individual institutions in the fall," Parker said. Under the NJCAA Presidential Advisory Council's proposal, football practice would begin on March 1, 2021, with games beginning on March 25. There would be a maximum of seven games allowed, with play wrapping up by May 15 and the NJCAA championship and bowl games beginning on June 3. This fall, schools would be allowed to practice between Aug. 13 and Oct. 10, with two scrimmages allowed against outside competition if they feel it's safe. The proposal would also shift the seasons for all other fall and winter sports. Men and women's basketball would begin practice on Jan. 11, with its season starting on Jan. 29. A maximum 29-game regular season would end on March 27 and championships would begin on April 19. Volleyball, wrestling, track and swimming would all resume practice on Jan. 4. On Thursday, the California Community College Athletic Association announced it will move all 24 of its sports, including football, to the spring season. Many sports will begin practicing in mid-January with competition beginning in February. The remaining sports will start practices in late March with events starting on April 10. The NJCAA board of regents will vote on the proposal during an emergency board meeting at 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday."

The NCAA really does need to rip this bandaid off, announce plans to move fall sports to spring, and start winter sports after the new year. Unfortunately, I’m unconvinced that plan would work either, as we are still working our way to herd immunity and cold & flu season will just about peak after the new year. We talk about playing hoops this November, which is ridiculous. Hoops in January is a long shot at best. Given some things I’ve read, we can’t rule out canceling the 2021-2022 season as well if there is no vaccine and massive production of that vaccine with 12 months from now - which is no guarantee.

Back in May, a D1 head coach I know did a zoom meeting with fans and season ticket holders (which I took part in), answering presubmitted questions. He discussed a variety of topics, including his schedule, which at the time, had 3 remaining openings (2 for D1/1 for non D1 opponents). He said his AD told him to hold off filling those openings for awhile until they were more certain as to what the Covid situation would be like going into the fall. In addition, every scheduled non conference game was vs an in State team or an an opponent from an immediately adjacent State, except for one, which was due to a previously signed 1 for 1 contract.
Just a guess on my part - Teams play conference games starting in January and a limited number of non conference games (maybe some previously cancelled MTE's or newly scheduled ones based on geography/team conference level - like a 4 team MTE with Detroit, Toledo, Indiana St, and Duquesne (all mid major teams from the same general area with 4 different conferences represented). Then possibly plans for a post season "NCAA tournament" starting with 256 teams at local arenas - eliminating teams until they get down to the normal 64 teams (with limited non conference games, how could you possibly decide on the top 64 anyways?)
Again, all nice ideas, but reality may cause all of this to be just crazy talk

(with limited non conference games, how could you possibly decide on the top 64 anyways?) Simple for the ncaa - pick the teams with the most alumni and largest fan bases which will be converted into ad revenue from beer companies.

This might work well for some of the of the schools however there will be some members who will not be able to participate. The fields will be unplayable and in some cases the schools will be unable to begin practice on March 1. There will be a huge increase in liabilities for member institutions due to lack of proper conditioning and playing conditions. The undeveloped root systems on the fields will result in a lot of loose turf and will not only destroy the fields but change quite a few lives and futures not to mention how many institutions have multiple teams using the same facilities through the year. Looks like a rob Peter to pay Paul fix or another solution which is worse than the problem. There is a reason why spring football doesn't start before mid March for a lot of universities and even then sometimes the first 7-10 days are spent inside.

I just continue to shake my head in amazement at the reaction of so many people to a coronavirus that is not novel, not deadly to over 99% of the population, no greater a threat to 99.999% of college age people than the flu, and has already likely infected and immunized temporarily 5-15% of the population in any given area. I've seen panics in financial markets before; but this panic is one for the ages. I may just learn to get along without watching any sports - pro or college. And maybe I'll spend some money instead getting an online graduate degree from Harvard. I wonder if they will use more expensive sheepskin on their diplomas than the University of Phoenix.

I think this has been politicized to a point where it really angers me. I realize the anything to win the ultimate prize in this country but where does it end? How stupid do the politicians think we are. I guess just dumb enough to keep reelecting them so they can make our decisions for us. I myself have never been politically active as far as taking sides or helping a candidate but this is the first time in my lifetime that I have contributed and will be taking an active part in trying to secure votes for a party nd I am looking forward to it.
