Like that schedule, Sam.
Former HL players in yesterday's results posted by Commissioner.
Former OU player and Grand Rapids Christian player, James Beck, had 8 points and 6 rebounds in a starting role vs Wright State. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in Miami's win versus North Dakota on November 25th.
Former Wright State player and HL all-freshman team Malachi Smith and former Cleveland State forward Stefan Kenic play for Tennessee Tech that defeated NKU yesterday. Yesterday, Smith had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Kenic had 17 points and 2 boards.
OU looks more and more like our first year Mike Davis team when Antoine carried the scoring helped by Josh and Derrien King with Blackshear inside. If Rashad is on, watch out. If he's not, lights out. OU won the game by placing a physically superior player on Moore and then guarding Williams hard from the 10 minute mark of the second half until they subbed to their bench with under 3 minutes left. But Rashad shot lights out in Stillwater. That gave them a chance for the first 30 minutes.

Sunday, December 6
Horizon Notre Dame 78, Detroit 70. Hated to lose this--the key sequence late was at the 5 minute mark, when Rose's almost amazing offensive putback bounced out and the Irish answered with a three, leaving the Titans down 4 instead of up 1. Credit to the Irish for closing it out. But this difference between this team and last year's team is like night and day. These guys go to the hoop, they look for open men, they work their hind ends off. We get Brandon back and Waterman, and we're gonna make some noise. AND... in the disappointing finish, Joey Liedel nailed his first collegiate shot, a none too easy 3 pointer from deep.
Ohio U. 101, Cleveland State 46. Wow. Sam already mentioned this incredible game. CSU was in it for a while, trailing 12-9 after 6 minutes of play. The Bobcats then went on a 17-0 run to blow the game open, and had stretched the lead to 26 by halftime. But the worst was yet to come for Cleveland State. The Vikings didn't score for the first 12 minutes of the second half, and didn't score a field goal in the half until just 5:10 was left to play. Coupled with the last five points of the first half, it was indeed a 40-0 run for Ohio U. It was a 13:38 overall scoring drought, and 16:31 without a field goal. Overall, the Vikings shot 3-25 from the floor in the second half, missing 17 straight shots from the floor to start the half. Their vaunted juco recruit, D'Moi Hodge, debuted with an 0-9 shooting night. CSU also turned it over 20 times in the second half alone. On the bright side, the Vikings made 81% of their free throw attempts.
Other Titan Opponents: #8 Michigan State 79, Western Michigan 61. Western was stubborn, coming back a couple times from double digit deficits. But the Broncos ran out of gas and State dominated the final 10 minutes. Joey Hauser had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (5-0).
Georgia Tech 79, #20 Kentucky 62. Tech, which entered the game 0-2, went on a 13-0 run late in the first half, and never looked back. Terrence Clark had 22 points for Kentucky, but the rest of the team shot just 37% from the floor.
Other Games Michigan 80, Central Florida 58. UM broke open a close game with a 20-0 second half run. Chaundree Brown led the Wolverines with 18. Central Michigan 79, Western Illinois 73. The Chips (1-3) rebounded from an embarrassing 19 point loss to D-2 Flagler to beat WIU. Aundre Polk had 19 points and 6 rebounds.
#11 West Virginia 80, Georgetown 71. The Mountaineers trailed for much of the game, but closed it out with a 29-9 finish. #12 Villanova 68, #17 Texas 64. Collin Gillespie made four free throws in the final 15 seconds to close out Nova's win. #17 Texas Tech 81, Grambling 40.
Seton Hall 98, Penn State 92 (OT). Judging from the scoreboard, this was an interesting game with lots of ebbs and flows. The Hall (2-3) rallied from 11 down at the half. Xavier 77, Cincinnati 69. The Queen City title goes to the Musketeers (6-0). Oklahoma 82, TCU 78. Austin Reeves had 32 points for the Sooners. UCLA 76, California 56.
Bowling Green 86, Buffalo 78. A conference opener. UAB 77, Troy 55. Coach's old team is out of the gate at 4-0.
Western Kentucky 96, Mississippi Valley State 69. Lindsay Hunter's MVSU Devils were 3-27 last year, allowing 90 points per game. They're 0-5 this year, allowing 108 points per game. If Lindsay doesn't teach his teams to play defense, and soon, his head coaching career may be a short one.
North Alabama 107, Carver Bible College 40. Give Carver credit for fearlessness. The Cougars, an NCCAA team (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) play 10 D-1 teams this year. So far they're 0-5 (against Kennesaw State, Wofford, Appalachian State, Austin Peay, and now North Alabama), with the average score of 100-36.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: Wyoming 76, Oregon State 73. Is Wyoming a mid-major? This is the closest thing we've got today.

Watching Creighton vs Kansas until the Titans tip off. Fun game. Lots of history here. Game being played at Phog Allen Fieldhouse on James Naismith Court. Gotta love it.
First matchup between these two teams since the 1974 NCAA tournament. Blue Jays versus Jayhawks. They should have titled this The Battle of the Birds.

Tuesday, December 8 Another bad night for the Titans, and for the Horizon. On the national scene, there were a bunch of really good games.
Horizon Kent State 80, Detroit 66. Very disappointing. Most of us were willing to swallow more losses against high majors (when did we last beat a high major?) because the played well. To come out flat and lose at home to Kent State is really a disappointment. Rose and Isiani were 8-14 from the floor--everybody else were a combined 12-47. Otherwise we just didn't have size on the boards. Another cameo from Thompson--hope that one gets figured out. I would have liked to see Liedel and LeGreair late. Good foul shooting team, though. I like teams that make foul shots.
Dayton 66, Northern Kentucky 60. The Norse led for much of the first half and were down just 4 at the break, but Dayton went on a 15-0 run early the second to blow the game open. Trey Robinson, a freshman, had 13 points and 5 rebounds for NKU (2-2).
Marquette 82, Green Bay 68. Green Bay (0-4) stayed in it for a long time, but they just didn't have the horses to match the Warriors Birds (4-1). P.J. Pipes had 22 for the Phoenix.
Some Other Games
#3 Iowa 93, #16 North Carolina 80. #6 Illinois 83, #10 Duke 68. After a two-point win over Ohio and a thrashing at the hands of #2 Baylor, Illinois (4-1) shot 58% and looked really good against the universally-despised Dookies (2-2).
Penn State 75, #15 Virginia Tech 55. Blow out city from the early going. After an opening 3-pointer by Tech's Wabissa Bede, the Nittany Lions (3-1) scored 17 straight points and were never threatened.
#21 Rutgers 79, Syracuse 69. #22 Ohio State 90, Notre Dame 85. The Irish (2-1) scored the last 8 points of the first half to lead by the same, and stretched the lead to 11 after the break. But Ohio State (3-0) caught up and for the last 10 minutes the two went back and forth. CJ Walker finally sealed the win with 4 free throws in the final 20 seconds.
Minnesota 85, Boston College 80 (OT). Miami (Fl) 58, Purdue 54. Purdue (3-2) opened with a 15-1 run to start the game, and led by 18 at the half. Despite the Boilermakers' collapse, the night was a romp for the Big 10 in the Big 10/ACC challenge. The Big 10 was 6-1, knocking off three ranked ACC teams by double-digits.
#5 Kansas 73, #8 Creighton 72. In another marquee game, Kansas and Creighton didn't disappoint. Freshman Jalen Wilson hit a go-ahead 3 with 42 seconds left. Creighton's star, Marcus Zegarowski, missed, but the Jays got the ball back and Zegarowski was fouled on a three point attempt with 2 seconds to go. He missed the third shot, and the Jayhawks (5-1) topped the Bluejays (3-1). Creighton is another of those teams that, as a teen, I thought of as being more or less on par with the Titans: a solid, Jesuit program that would go to the post-season from time to time, hit the national rankings in a really good year, and turn out the occasional all-American. I think they've moved past us.
#12 Tennessee 56, Colorado 47.
St. Mary's 73, UTEP 61. Morgan State 83, Iona 72. A Rick Pitino-coached Iona team isn't supposed to lose to Morgan State. At home. By double digits.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: It's actually not a mid-major, but D-2 Fort Hayes State, which thumped Kansas State (1-3), 81-68, claims the honor.

Some other games:
Seton Hall 78, Wagner 45. Notable because one of my all time favorite Titan targets, Ankle Breakin' Bryce Aiken, is once again out with injury. Health issues really impacted his success at Harvard, and unfortunately, it is continuing with the Pirates. His Harvard teammate Seth Towns, who missed two seasons with injury before transferring to Ohio State, has yet to play with the Buckeyes.
Georgetown 80, Coppin State 48. Hoyas even the record at 2-2.
Oklahoma State 83 Oral Roberts 78. Our former MCC conference mate gave the Big 12 Cowboys a good game.

Wednesday, December 9
Horizon Youngstown State 72, Point Park 52. Garret Covington had 11 points and 10 rebounds and freshman Shemar Rethan-Mays had 17 points as Youngstown overpowered outmanned Point Park in its season opener. The Penguins did play without Darius Quisenberry.
Other Games You Were Wondering About Michigan 91, Toledo 71. Probsbly just as well the Titans didn't get this game. Eastern Michigan 95, Adrian 35.
#2 Baylor 83, Stephen F. Austin 52. #13 Texas 74, Texas State 53. #13 Wisconsin 73, Rhode Island 62. #17 Texas Tech 51, Abilene Christian 44. Abilene Christian fell behind by 15 early, but battled back to take a brief second half lead, and was within a possession of Tech with under 2 minutes to play. It was the Wildcats first loss after 5 wins.
#19 Richmond 78, Northern Iowa 68. Tyler Burton had 21 points and 13 rebounds for Richmond ((4-0).
#20 Florida State 69, Indiana 67 (OT). The biggest lead in this game was 6 points, for Florida State (2-0) in the first half. Scotty Barnes won it with a jumper with 2 seconds left in overtime. Trayce Jackson-Davis had 25 points and 17 rebounds for Indiana (3-2).
Pittsburgh 71, Northwestern 70. Northwestern (2-1) scored the first 7 points and never trailed until the final 5 seconds. That was after Boo Buie, a 72% career free throw shooter, missed two with 16 seconds to play. Tough loss for Wildcat fans. Clemson 67, Maryland 51. Georgia Tech 75, Nebraska 64. After getting swamped 6-1 last night in the Big 10/ACC Challenge, the ACC came back tonight with 4 wins in 4 games. The Big 10 leads the series 6-5.
Providence 79, TCU 70. Junior David Duke (ouch) had his second straight 28 point game for Providence (4-2). Xavier 99, Oklahoma 77. The Musketeers are 7-0. Zach Freemantle led with 28 points. Drake 90, McKendree 66. Former Green Bay star Tank Hemphill had points for Drake (5-0). Citadel 102, Carver 51. I hope little Carver Bible is getting some big checks. They've played 7 D-1 opponents now (4 more to come), losing all 7, by an average of 101-41.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: Pepperdine 74, California 62.

Other observations from Wednesday night:
As the Commissioner referenced, if ever a player needed a nickname, it's Providence guard David Duke.
Loyola Chicago 88, Chicago State 51. Poor Chicago State.
Georgia Tech started the season with losses to Mercer and Georgia State, but has bounced back to beat Kentucky and Nebraska.
Arkansas 79, Southern 44. Southern played 16 players last night.
Tulane 58, Southern Miss 38. Tulane is 3-0. They meet Arkansas Pine Bluff next and should be 4-0 when they open conference play against Memphis next Wednesday.
Florida State has won 10 straight overtime games.

Former Oakland PG Braden Norris started for Loyola and played 24 minutes with 6 points making 2 three-point baskets. He had 2 assists and 3 turnovers.
Also, yesterday, former Titan Marquis Moore played 10 minutes with 1 point and 1 rebound in Southern Utah's 81-71 victory over Utah Valley. Moore has played in all 5 SUU games averaging 8.2 minutes, 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Looking at Prarie View’s box scores, it doesn’t appear Boe Nguidjol has played at all for his new team in their three games. Alonde LeGrand is averaging 1.4 points for 0-6 North Florida.
