I don't think he is shooting anywhere near as much as he did last year. And he's driving a lot more than last year. What he's not doing is making those 15-foot fadeaways that worked well last season. Last season AD averaged 20.8 shots per game. This season (so far) he's whittled that down to 20.2 shots per game. He's got a better team around him, but it's not reflected in his FGAs. He's still shooting a ton. RP3, by comparison, never averaged more than 16 shots / game... and he did that as a junior when he had the least help. I'm thinking AD should send about 5-6 shots each game elsewhere. Unless he gets hot of course. Then all bets are off and he can chuck it up as much as he likes. Ball hog isn't about number of shots, it's about percentage of shots. The team is playing a faster game this season, and you just have to watch to see how other players are taking many more shots than last year, when it was pass-pass-pass-pass-shot-clock-about-to-expire-Davis shoots. In the first five games last season Antoine took 103 of the team's 290 shots. That's 35%. This year he's taken 101 shots (two fewer) but the overall number is up to 330 -- 40 more shots, all of them taken by other players. He's taking 30% of the shots. Yesterday he took 25% of the shots (17 of 69).

When was the 3 pt line moved back and by how far, ptc? It was moved back last season by 1 foot, 4 and 3/4 inches to the international distance of 22 feet, 1 and 3/4 inches from 20 feet, 9 inches. This season so far, AD is 29-60 inside the three-point line. He is 5-41 on 3-point tries. Yesterday, he was 5-10 on 2-point attempts.

Couple of quick thoughts on Saturday's game.
I am an old school basketball fan. I like pass first point guards who run the offense and big men who play like big men. Given that, I was pleased to see what Koka did. He's definitely raw, but he scored nine points and blocked a couple of shots in 18 minutes. I guess he had been doing some conditioning work somewhere, because I didn't expect so many minutes in his first game. Good for him.
Antoine isn't a pass first/run the offense point guard, and I don't expect him to try to be one. But one thing that is clear is that he is not a knock down accurate long distance shooter like Sweet Du or Archie Tullos. No shame in that, those guys were special. But Davis seems to gear his offense towards shooting the three, and his percentage doesn't warrant that. I have said before that I would love to see him do more driving to the basket and using his midrange game.
Over the past couple of decades, we've heard people say that you shoot yourself out of a slump, so if you're not hitting you should keep shooting. The philosophy used to be that if your long shot isn't falling, shoot from a shorter range and try to draw fouls. I would like to see more of that.

I wouldn't use a term like ball hog - that feels way too judgey. But...
It is more than just the % of total shots. Its the QUALITY of shots that are being taken. It's AD doing fadeaway 3's from the corners with a hand in his face - making THAT decision as the best shot the team could get on the possession. That behavior and shot selection is a major negative on the whole team (especially as he continues to clank them). What do they say? It's not a bad shot if it goes in? Well those shots aren't cute anymore because they aren't going in.
This season, our better possessions have been when we ran the offense called (1) let's get a good shot, instead of (2) let's concede that AD is going to throw it up from wherever - which usually means he and Willy do a little do-si-do dance of going by each other and handing the ball off in the vain hope that the handoff will create huge separation for one of them to get a good look and chuck it.
As to the line up...since Coach Davis is intent on building the team with Grad Transfers/1-done guys, we will continue to have this 'give the team time, they are breaking in new players' again and again and again. (this seems exasperated by us always having a guy or two in NCAA eligibility jail, see Waterman/Boka for this year's edition). There's no continuity from year to year so thus we have the learning process to watch each year. We lose a ton of guys after this season so will have re-stock and have next year include a bunch of games as 'learning to play with each other'. Now, this is a good strategy, until you lose a ton of games on the regular.
As for today's game...I think Wright wins by 15, and somewhat crusies. We gave them our best shot for the first 16 mins yesterday (and we looked darn good if we are being honest), but then Wright sure as heck fought back and let us know who the Alpha dogs of the HL are this year.

<Sneaking this in, even though it's the wrong place on this board.>
After a heart-breaking OT loss to UIC yesterday the women Titans came out today and destroyed the Flames. After an even first quarter, the Detroit Mercy women ran the lead to as much as 23 before easing off for a 72-58 win, coach AnnMarie Gilbert's first at the school. The women ran, rebounded, shot well, played strong defense, points in the paint, point from long-range. They're a good-looking team and entertaining to watch.
<OK, back to the guys.>

Under 16 timeout, Wright up 11-7
Willy picks up 3! fouls in the first 4 mins. Not sure why he stayed in after picking up the 2nd. Unwise move by staff, and by Willy. Ugh.
Fraser playing good and tough again, kuol with a smooth 3. Boka first sub to see time in for Willy. Wright appears nonplussed thus far.

Under 12 time out, last few mins featured the Wright state lay up line. Wright up 19-9. It appears the Raiders indeed have hit that ‘cruise control’ button.
Brandon got in and instantly struggled on defense as part of the aforementioned lay up line. Got hollered at by coach.
Our struggling and stagnant offense continues. Just look at these possessions with 1 or 2 players moving and a whole lotta standing around otherwise.

Under 8 timeout, Wright 24-18.
Okay I’m intrigued, a good segment for our Titans. In 3 possessions in a row- we had Kuol smooth 3 from the wing, kuol dunk on breakaway, and Fraser offensive rebound and layup.
Koka took a 3 from corner for some reason. It didn’t draw rim or net. Let’s retire that play. Then, Wright answers with 2 straight easy layups. Way too easy.

Our struggles continue, AD still forcing shots. The 3 pointer by koka? Wow. Only down 3 at the moment. Let’s go!

Under 4 timeout, tied at 28. another good segment for the Titans. Showing a burst of heart and hustle.
Rose and kuol tack on and-1s and we momentarily draw even at 24. With a chance to take lead we get our umpteenth offensive foul for illegal screen on the season( this on Brandon).
I would take a shot for every easy wright layup, but there’s not enough booze in the house.
AD can’t buy a bucket. We go into this timeout after AD air balls a fairly open 3 from the top, with just two seconds off the shot clock.

Come on Earl, shooters gotta shoot stuff! I get that but not at the expense of your own team. They are showing that they are capable of winning without him shooting that crap!

Halftime. Wright 35-32
3 makes for wright from 2 feet out. Have I mentioned how easy it is for Wright down low?!?! The last was off a breakaway as the Titans missed and Wright ran a guy out and was all alone (AD didn’t track back).
Kuol is our best offensive player. Hands down.
Brandon instead of Willy with the downlow defense is an upgrade.
AD is just broken - another gem courtesy of the year 2020.
