Being that this was in response to my post... do you have a synopsis? I'm not going to subscribe to the Times to read an article about Emoni. I did see that nbadraft.net currently mocks him as being drafted mid-2nd round (50th). They usually do as good a job as anyone at doing their homework.

I think he is misdirected. Watched him last night. I think he had 5 points and played ole defense. I felt sorry for Stan Heath. I think Eastern is better when Bates is not on the floor. That’s 2 college teams which are better without him. So I can’t see how he improves a NBA team.

Bates may be not coachable, that SI cover might have been the start of the end for him. Heath and Hardaway are 2 excellent coaches, yet Bates's game seems still stuck in Lincoln HS.

Being that this was in response to my post... do you have a synopsis? I'm not going to subscribe to the Times to read an article about Emoni. I did see that nbadraft.net currently mocks him as being drafted mid-2nd round (50th). They usually do as good a job as anyone at doing their homework. Fourteen-word synopsis: Talented, but not that much. Troubled, mostly because of his father. A squandered athlete. Excerpts. “Bates was on a magazine cover at 15. He was playing Division I college basketball at 17. Now he’s 19, his college career may be over, and N.B.A. success is anything but guaranteed. … moment of brilliance … [and] a lot [of] baggage.” [Mistakes like going to his father’s academy instead of high school.] “By many accounts, Bates has an admirable work ethic, is capable in the classroom, has a goofy sense of humor and, like many his age, has some growing up to do.” At Memphis “it became apparent, especially to the team’s many upperclassmen, that Bates could not handle the physicality of college basketball or not having the ball in his hands.” “A calamitous season at the University of Memphis … [followed by] a felony gun charge, [with a guilty plea] to a misdemeanor that included a sentence of 18 months of probation” and then EMU. “In his first [EMU] game, Bates electrified Little Caesars Arena, the home of the Detroit Pistons, in a narrow loss to Michigan, scoring 30 points, including an audacious 3-pointer from near midcourt, after which he pointed to the court with both index fingers and shouted, “This is my city.” That served as his best game until late December, when Bates dropped 36 in a loss at South Carolina. “ ‘It’s no secret Emoni loves the big games,’ said Orlando Lovejoy, a freshman guard from Detroit who first played with Bates in the eighth grade. And it was no coincidence, he added, that both opponents featured star freshmen in Bates’s graduating high school class — Michigan’s Jett Howard, the son of Juwan Howard, and South Carolina’s G.G. Jackson — who are expected to be lottery picks in June. “ ‘Me, personally, I look at it as we’re playing Michigan,’ Lovejoy explained. ‘Emoni looks at it like he’s playing Jett Howard. He takes those matchups personally. I think Emoni gave him 40 every time they’d played [in high school] and this is him showing Jett nothing has changed.’ ” “He is not an efficient scorer — he takes 33 percent of his team’s shots, the 16th-highest ratio in the nation, according to KenPom statistics, and has made just 41 percent of them. When his shot is not falling, he keeps bombing rather than working for better shots, getting to the free-throw line or using the attention he divines to set up a teammate.” … “When the N.B.A. draft arrives in June, Bates won’t be selected anywhere near the top — if he is selected at all. Instead, his path to a pro career is likely to start somewhere between the end of an N.B.A. bench and the basketball back roads.”

The end of the SEMO tenn tech game was bonkers. TT thought they won and were in the tourney on a last second 3, Only for replay to show it was a 2 - and they lost in OT.
I was at unc/dook, a great and intense game (that duke pulled out) but also oddly really below usual standards in terms of talent on the floor. And overall this was a tough and disappointing season for the the Heels, after returning 4 starters from a team that was tied in the national title game with 2 mins to go, just 11 months ago.

I'm not sure that I'd take him... but my guess is still that he gets his shot based on measurables and physical tools. Cant really blast him for this last part either... or we'd all be hypocrites. 😁

Cleveland State leads Milwaukee 46-28 in the half, after the Vikings put on a display of classic 1980s style basketball in the first 20 minutes. Hit 50% from the field, only taking 6 three pointers (missed all six). Got a lot of lay up and midrange buckets, and 20 fast break points. Balanced scoring and only four turnovers. Still a long way to go, but so far CSU looks really good.
On another note, it appears as if the Vikings and the Panthers both made really good hires for the head coaching spot this past Spring.

I watched some of the St. Mary's vs BYU game. Aidan Mahaney is an exciting player. Noah Waterman was non existent in BYU's offense. The Titans utilized his skills and were able to incorporate him better in the offense. I wish he would have stayed in Detroit.

Well, he left because he was not being used the right way in Detroit and word on the street is he was tired of the whole offense being wasted around one guy who happens to be the coaches son. NKU winning because they play as a team and not as a individual.

On the bright side, he didn't get Covid for a 3rd consecutive year.

Noah has never really fit in now on 3 D1 teams.
