So, here are 4 mid-majors I expect we'd like to emulate:
Iona was 2-28 in 2007. Three years later they won 21 games. They've won at least 20 games in 10 of 12 seasons since, not counting the Covid-shortened 2021 season, when they went 12-6. They made the NCAA tournament 8 times in the last 12 years.
St. Mary's was 2-27 in 2001. After the season they hired 37-year old Randy Bennett, and have a .707 winning percentage since. They reached .500 in Bennett's second season and wone 25 games and made the NCAA tournament in his 4th. Over the last 16 years they've won at least 21 games every year except the Covid-shortened 2021, and have made 8 NCAA tournaments.
Furman: Not Catholic, but small, private. In 9 seasons from 2007 through 2015 they had 8 losing records, including 4 with single digit wins. After a 7-24 season in 2013, they hired 39 year-old Niko Medved. In his third season they won 19 games, then 23 games and the Southern Conference title in his 4th. He then left (He's now at Colorado State, which is 9-1 and ranked nationally), but was replaced by 40-year old Bob Richey, under whom they've won at least 22 games every season except for 2021 (16-9).
Drake: Another relatively small, private. Drake had three straight single-digit win seasons from 2015 through 2017. After back-to-back 7-win seasons in 2016 and 2017, they hired none other than Niko Medved, from Furman. Medved's only Drake team won 17 games, and when he left was replaced by 42-year old Darian DeVries. Under DeVries, Drake has averaged more than 24 wins per season in 6 years, plus a 10-1 start this year. They've made 2 of the least 3 NCAA tournaments. Not saying it's easy. Am saying It can be done.

You never mentioned the age of the young guy that turned Ionia around?

The young Iona coach was 32 yr old Kevin Willard. He is now the HC at Maryland. At Iona, he replaced Jeff Ruland

At Iona, he replaced Jeff Ruland I didn't go through the Iona coaches because unlike the others they've had several, not just one or two. As Larry notes, though, it was Kevin Willard who started the turnaround. After three years he left for Seton Hall and was replaced by 51-year old Tim Cluess (older, but also his first HC job). Cluess, who really made the program, was there for 9 years until taking a leave of absence for health reasons in fall of 2019. He was replaced as interim for a year by 37 year old Tra Arnold. Under Arnold, the Gaels had their first losing season (12-17) since Willard's second year. When Cluess was not able to return and resigned in 2020, Iona hired Rick Pitino, Sr., who was not hired by the Titans despite Tony Paul picking up rumors. Pitino left for St. John's before this year and was replaced by 51 year-old Tobin Anderson, who had been HC at Fairleigh Dickinson for all of one season.

And old Rick Pitino had 25 and 27 win seasons with the 27 tying Ionia’s best ever season. Plus 2 out of 3 years trips to the Dance. Good thing we didn’t hire him we wouldn’t want THAT here! I wonder if anyone watched the WV/ Wright State womens game this am. 7500 fans at 9:30 am great game and at the end they turned the lights off and fans waved their phones as they played the song West Virginia. Talk about making you want to go there and be a part of it. Building fan loyalty, great promotion! Wonder if any of our Athletic Department Experts were watching?

We should be half way there by the end of the year. Maybe the PR department can do a "Catch New Jersey Institute of Technology" campaign. Banners and T-Shirts would be fun. Maybe throw in some announcements of new recruits for next year who are sons of great NBA players averaging 3.4 and 2.1 for their second school. The options are endless.

Wow. 20 baskets made and 24 turnovers. In one game! That is seriously hard to do!
Congratulations Davis family!

Only 14 more to go! New Jersey Institue of Technology must be shaking in their boots. I heard that, every year, when the last winless team wins a game they break out the Champagne just like the 1972 Dolphins.

I think we will beat Robert Morris on 2/3/24. If we dont, I think we go winless. I hope the coaches realize that the longer the winless streak continues, it increases the difficulty in obtaining that first victory. Every team we face will give us their best effort. Nobody wants to lose to a loser.

I honestly didn't think that the Davis's could pull this off, but it's looking much more likely.
