Hopefully, we won't wait too long to make a hire. The delays in hiring BA and Davis put them at a disadvantage from the start.

Based on some recent communications, I just want to confirm what I already know: Mike Davis is a class act. Don't forget that.

Just my sense from reading the tea leaves, this decision to "part ways" was made/negotiated several weeks ago, the recruitment process for backfill was promptly initiated and is already well underway, the President will be the primary selecting official, and things will move faster on a hiring decision than UDM followers have been accustomed to.

In case you don't have sub to News, I love LOVE LOVE this quote from the Pres...
"It's essential that UDM has a strong and competitive men's basketball program for the city of Detroit, the University community, our alumni, supporters and friends and most of all for our student-athletes," university president Donald Taylor said in a statement released by the school. "We all share pride in our athletic programs as representative of the University and we will work together to earn their interest and support in the program moving forward."
Amen. Let's go Pres Taylor, make it happen!

If they really did negotiate a few weeks ago I would have 2 questions in that case.
Was there an effort to retain some of the players in that push? And if so does that mean someone like marsh would stay on? He’s pretty liked by the guys and a good defensive coach who I had heard at some point might’ve been in line to take over. (Obviously don’t think that now)

(Obviously don’t think that now) Very rare that any assistants get to contractually stay on (extending to the next staff) once the head coach is let go. The new guy will, and should, have the responsibility for putting together his staff. Hope some of the players don't jump ship, but I doubt that locking in any of the current assistant coaches would have a major impact on their decision to stay out or consider their options in the portal. In this interim phase awaiting the completion of the selection process, I would think the AD and perhaps even the President should encourage some of the players with remaining eligibility to stick around until a new coach is named.

We need to take our time with due diligence to ensure we hire a good coach. I think perhaps the search has been going on for several weeks, they've already done a lot of work in "informally" contacting good candidates through the consulting group, they have a short list, and things will move fairly quickly. The due diligence is being down in advance behind the scenes. They can't afford to move slowly. That's how it works in 2024. MSU announced their new football coach within hours after Tucker was fired.

This is being handled much differently than Vowels' first two hires. First, the decision was announced early. Second, we have a heavyweight search firm involved. In the two previous coaching hires, we waited until late in March to even announce that the former coach was being relieved of duties. We are acting much differently than an allegedly cash strapped university.
