Are we sure he's talking about us? He certainly is not using a University approved name for us. 🙂
If it's Montgomery, good luck to him. Go Titans.

I am calling it now.. Bad hire. I hope they did not pick him over the young and up-and-coming guys who were in their so-called top 4. He did not make it to the tournament in 10 years at NIU. He's from Inkster, so that's a plus, but who was he the primary recruiter for at State? This basketball program has been in a spiral since 2013.. 11 years now. hopefully, he can do something, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Doesn't mean it's the wrong choice, but probably a low upside. On paper, the downside doesn't look too great either, I guess, but its hard to get too excited.

He had a better record at NIU than Ray did at Houston before we hired Ray. A lot will depend upon whom he gets to join his staff. Also, given his 4 months here as an assistant, he's not taking the job with any illusions about the facilities or the athletic department. I'd rather win games than win the introductory press conference. I agree that it's not an exciting hire, but I never thought that McCallum was an exciting hire.

Safe hire, local name recognition, should have some in-state/regional recruiting contacts. First, work on keeping Hurst and the younger talent. Hopeful it will work out.

It might not be a bad hire, but Montgomery must hire an assistant who can recruit.

If Mark hires a good staff and UDM keeps moving forward with improving the facilities this could turn out good.
Out of the four finalist leaked he was defiantly the most safest pick out of the group.
Time will show what safe gets you.

Izzo would of had to have endorsed it, while I cant say I like Izzo, I respect him as a coach. Coaches sometimes deserve a second chance; we don't know what kind of issues he faced at NIU. He is back in familiar territory. At 1-31 last year the only direction is up, we have some time. The real test will be what other changes will accompany his hire.

“At 1-31 last year the only direction is up.”
Not 100% accurate.

Not a horrible choice. Just safe whatever that means. When you have a 1-31 record, safe does not cut it. You have to take some risks which in this case would have been hiring a younger up and coming coach such as Blount. Total lack of imagination which has Vowels written all over it.

I was hoping we would follow the blueprint laid out for success in our conference by Youngstown, Milwaukee and Green Bay! Nope we are smarter so no need to follow the map! Close but a little older with D1 experience. I like Fee the best! Good luck Coach Montgomery I hope you have the tenacity and energy for this.

I get young, but since when is 54 not young? Maybe in college basketball coaching ranks. I am two years older, I don't consider myself old despite getting the senior discount at the movie theater and endless mailings from AARP.
