Not to worry, Sam, everyone gets a waiver these days. Sure seems like it. However, next October, our team will be starting practice, and we'll be told one or two of our incoming transfers aren't eligible yet and are awaiting a waiver. Inevitably, this will stretch to the end of the 1st semester (mid/late Dec) when that/those players will finally be eligible.

South Florida transfer Caleb Murphy has committed to DePaul.
Averaged 11.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists last season for the Bulls.

Seems like kind of a roster filler for DePaul, but maybe he'll surprise me. If the Titans had landed him, I would be optimistic, but I'm not sure how effective he will be on the Big East level. A bit of insurance for the Blue Demons, just in case transfer Gibson doesn't get a waiver.

DePaul picks up a commitment from Babacar Mbengue, a 7 foot, 225 pounds center in the class of 2023. 24/7 ranks him in the top 150 of recruits in the class nationally. Had offers from Arizona State, Kansas State, USC, Mississippi State, and others. Random fact: There is a history professor on DePaul's faculty with the same name. 247sports.com/player/babacar-mbengue-46118416/

The Blue Demons got some good news on the recruiting front recently as four star guard Zion Cruz committed to DePaul. The 6-5 Cruz is ranked 38th in the nation by 24/7 Sports. Cruz had offers from lots of high major programs and was considered one of the best prospects left in the class of 2022. He joins JUCO scorer KT Raimey in the class of 2022 for DePaul. DePaul adds another JUCO to their class of 2022, landing a verbal commitment from Da'Sean Nelson, a forward from Kilgore JUCO. Nelson averaged 14 and 6 with shooting percentages of 57, 48, and 72. Had offers from Texas A&M, Cincinnati, and SMU. Has three years of eligibility remaining. www.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2020-21/div1/players/daseannelsonnv18DePaul got a big win tonight, upsetting #8 Xavier in Chicago. I noticed that Da'Sean Nelson, mentioned in the previous post, hit the game winner with less than a minute to go. Nelson is one of those JUCO players who is paying dividends in year 1, averaging 10 points per game while shooting 59% from the floor. The Blue Demons are now 9-10.

Was the top JUCO player in the country in the class of 2020, but never should have gone to Kansas. Never got traction there. Good pick up for DePaul, because they desperately need players. Grant-Foster is in the portal, looking for his third D1 school. Only played a couple of games at DePaul after getting hurt in early in the 2021-22 season. He never got medically cleared to return and missed the entire 2022-23 season. Kind of a surprise to see him in the portal.

Stop me if you've heard this before, but it was another bad season for the Blue Demons. On the plus side, DePaul wasn't last in the league, thanks to Georgetown, but that 3-17 record in Big East play is ugly. All the usual problems were there; injuries, chemistry issues, etc. The highlight of the season was a win over #8 Xavier, but DePaul lost 12 in a row after that. I don't know when the Demons will ever be good again. They have money, a new arena, a large alumni base, a good home recruiting base, and a good league, but they can't put it together.

It’s the curse put upon them when they fired favorite son Joey Meyer.

Big blow for a team that had already had a top 150 recruit de-commit from the class of 2023. DePaul fans just can't catch a break.

These days mid-majors hope to get lucky with a hot young coach (FAU), back when the Mid Majors of today were "minor/majors" like DePaul or St Johns. These minor/majors, or major/minors were family dynasties, like Meyers at Depaul, or Thompson at Georgetown, or Louie at St John's. I kind of like the way it was.
