In the aftermath of an 8-24 season as the firing of the head coach, Wolverines Dug McDaniel and Tarris Reed hit the portal. Both will be in demand.

This is one thing consistently lacking in Vowels in particular and UD in general. We should have known well before March 1 if Coach Davis was going to return, and had our candidates lined up. Now it could be we have done that, and the candidate we want is still playing (so we can rule out Washington, Mann, Donte Jackson, and a host of other candidates). But more likely we're just plodding along, not seeing any reason to change the process we used back in 1969 and 1973.

Michigan lands two transfers from the portal.
Center Danny Wolf averaged 14 points and 10 boards last year for Yale. May grabs an Ivy League transfer, just like Howard did a couple of times.
Guard Rubin Jones scored 12 ppg at North Texas last season.

We're not the only school that experiences transfer credit issues.

Ohio State transfer guard Roddy Gayle committed to Michigan. He averaged 13.5 ppg this past season. Good foul shooter, not good from three point range (28%).

I used to think the intra-league transfer rules were really too harsh. Now I kinda long for the days when a player would think twice about this kind of transfer, and the college athletic world would cringe and complain when a guy transferred from OSU to U-M. The old NCAA wasn't great, but the new version is worse.

The old NCAA wasn't great, but the new version is worse. Agreed. I hate the intra-league transfers. It actually always seemed reasonable to me that a program could block a transfer to a conference opponent. I disagreed when coaches started blocking players from transferring to teams on their schedule in coming seasons, teams in the same state, etc. I think as those instances increased, it caused public sentiment to come to the side of the player more than the program, which has caused the pendulum to move too far the other way.

Michigan continues to cook in the transfer portal, gaining a verbal commitment from Sam Walters, a 6-10 forward from Alabama. As a freshman this past season, averaged 5 points and 2 rebounds per game, seeing action in 37 games. Not a post up guy: Of his 150 field goal attempts, 99 of them were from three point range.
