One of my concerns is Davis recently said he was looking at bringing in 5 to 6 total players, and he stated they would be good players - starter quality. How he's going to do this with limited scholarships is his problem and not the reason for this post, but we can acknowledge that available scholarships are scarce. However, in the last week, we have made new offers to 3 players - Chase Thompson, JaJuan Carr and Jonathan Komagum. In all three cases, the players or their coaches reported these as offers, not walk-on or preferred walk on spots. I have no problem with the offers and I like that 2 are to HS players and JUCO's are often the way to go when recruiting big men. I also prefer not to judge their ability based on newsclippings or video highlights because that wouldn't be too smart since newspapers aren't going to rip high school players and the videos are of highlights only, so everyone should look good.
But is anyone else concerned that 2 of these players have no other D1 offers and the 3rd has lower level/mid major offers only? I realize hidden gems are possible, but every recruit can't be a hidden gem. With limited scholarships and the promise of good starter quality recruits, this recent direction seems to contradict what we were told

Reminds me of Bass, very long. Hopefully he has grades and most of the Europeans seem to. I have always thought long was better than tall. Harding used to say that the game was played with hands and the inside of heads not the top of a head.

We do have 3 guards that could be leaving possibly 4. That could leave us with one guard. We need to go into the season with a minimum of 5 guards. We have way too many TO's so we need to cut that down and we need someone that values and maximizes a possession.

I think we should pass on Gage, especially if we bring Maxwell back.

"Showing interest" is a stage of recruiting slightly above reading verbalcommits and below that of "an offer."

Don't confuse me posting info with any sort of enthusiasm or an endorsement for the specific recruit. I rarely get excited about someone we've offered lately. Sometimes, when it gets to May or June, I'm just excited that we're finally signing someone.

You want to feel like you are recruiting players that other programs are after, too. It's not impossible to find hidden gems, but at this time in the 2020 recruiting cycle, I would hope we are offering players that are in demand.

I think we should pass on Gage, especially if we bring Maxwell back. If Gage wants to come here, I recommend we take him. If he is healthy, he's the best point guard on the team not counting AD. My guess is that he will have better opportunities than us and will go elsewhere.

If you listen closely to what he was saying, Davis is looking for some veteran players who will give us immediate help next year to complement our younger and more developing players. Gage certainly fits that requirement at PG so Antoine can play off the ball. IMO, I think we may be too focused upon the the numbers that fluctuate from as low as 3 or 4 to as high as 8 or 9 new players. I had rbj's post in mind when I joked about "showed interest."

I dont see Gage as being a hot commodity, he averaged 4.5 pts and 1.7 assist, he certainly isn't the next Rod Strickland or Kevin Edwards. I would rather gamble on a younger player, which could also backfire ala Braden Norris at OU.

Here's an interesting blurb about Komagum
