6'1" PG Jaylen Wysinger from St Pius X HS in Houston was offered. Averaged 14 ppg last season. A Top 25 player in Houston

Awesome. Another one we set the bar with by extending their first D1 offer! We're making dreams come true over here at Detroit Mercy. If you're not sure whether you've got the chops to play D1 ball, you'll find out when we come calling.

I’m just worried, who is going to be our SE (space eater) in 2021-2022? Sure, we have the unannounced space eater that 1983 has guaranteed us. But if he’s a grad transfer he’ll be gone after one season. We don’t need another PG, we need a SE!

With seniors, it's a bit different.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he turns into a worthy offer. I'm just having some fun with it. That said, being the #25 ranked player in a city didn't strike me as the gamechanger we need. Plus, he's another guard and we're looking for some space eaters over here.

There are a 107 D1 basketball schools in the state of Texas, if Wysinger develops into a bonafide D1 player it will be hard to get him to attend school in the covid 19/frozen tundra of Detroit,Michigan. Coach Davis should recruit the boarder states of Michigan and the states that I-/75 runs through, at least he isn't solely depending on youtube...I hope

For 2020, he signed two kids from Michigan, a grad transfer (Fraser) from Hamilton, Ontario that is a 3+ hour drive from Detroit on Lake Erie, and the 6'11" transfer from upstate NY who had played at Niagara in Buffalo, NY. Also, our latest known offer, Josh Jefferson, is a grad transfer who is from New Albany, Indiana (admittedly down by the Ohio River) but last I saw a map, Indiana was still a border State. Our only 2021 commit is from Cleveland, OH. Kinda sounds like he is already recruiting a lot from States and provinces that border or are very near Michigan. Wysinger is rated a Top 25 kid in Houston - not #25. He could be #21. Finally, yesterday, the NCAA extended this year's recruiting dead period to July 31st. No official visits and in-person contact between coaches and recruits are permitted during this dead period which has been in effect since mid-March.

Houston is a big City, 2 million plus, so being the number 25 player there would carry more weight than being the number 25 player in Detroit (unfortunately). Given that, I am actually surprised that we are his first D1 offer.

All we know for sure is that we're his first D1 offer. Based on population alone, he'd be like a top 7 player from Detroit. I think LeGreair was about top 7. The state of Michigan has about 10 million people, so he'd be like a top-100 player from the state of Michigan. 😁 I hope nobody gets bent out of shape over these comments. Again, being a top 25 player isn't a bad thing... just nothing that would signify greatness. Plus, who knows if we even land him. Wake me when we get a commit from a top 5 player from a state... any state. Then I'll start getting excited. Or last top 5 guy from Michigan was Corey Allen, I believe.

I knew you weren't being negative, and you are right. You know I was just being the "glass half full" guy. :-) The days of getting in demand Michigan high school talents like Allen, McFolley, Foster-Smith, and Hogan seem like a long time ago.

Looking back through the 2016 recruiting thread, the highest ranking I found for Corey was #6. For 2014 I found Aaron Foster Smith ranked as high as 3rd on one list, 4th and 5th on a couple others. The highest ranking I found for Jaleel Hogan was #6. For 2015 Gerald Blackshear touched #10 in one ranking but slid his last year. McFolley peaked at #12 in the rankings I could find. Almost Titan Lacy James reached #10 in some rankings.

Good research. So it looks like AFS was the last. I'm guessing I must have been confusing Corey's Mr Basketball finish with recruit ranking.
