Here's a surprise. Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 4m Arizona State's Shaquielle McKissic has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, per the school. Big news for the Sun Devils. Interesting. Would have been a good player in the Horizon, perhaps a dominant one. We could have our broken verbal commit backcourt next year with Shaq and Simpson!

Now, THAT would be a nice back court. :-) McKissic looks like he would have been an all conference type performer in the HL. I think Simpson would have shined at U of D. Not sure how he'll do at DePaul.

Strange turn of events for a player that we considered as a transfer possibility last year.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 1h Illinois has suspended Western Michigan transfer Darius Paul for the entire 2014-15 season, per the school.

Stephen Spurlock going the prep school route after getting offers from U of D and others disappoints me. I liked him in that small forward role, felt like he had good potential to understudy under JH2 and take a big role as a junior. I'm getting the feeling he thought he could do better than offers from us and Stetson, hence his decision to take the prep school route. Spurlock committed to Maryland Eastern Shore as part of the class of 2014. The MEAC (Maryland Eastern Shore - league RPI = 31st) vs the Atlantic Sun (Stetson - league RPI - 23) vs the Horizon (league RPI = 14) - I don't think he did better.

Sounds like it would have been a wasted scholarship on Spurlock.

Going from a U of D offer to signing with Maryland Eastern Shore certainly couldn't be what Spurlock had in mind. As TJ implies, it looks like a mistake.
I liked Spurlock for that last scholarship, recognizing that he would likely not be an immediate contributor, but things obviously worked out for the best for U of D. If that offer is where he ended up even after a prep year, he would not have contributed as much as Matt and Jarod did last year, and he certainly doesn't have the upside that Paris does.
As players such as Richie Lewis and others have realized that prep year is not always the right move.

West with 11 points, nine boards, and 5 blocks in Nevada's win Wednesday night over arch rival UNLV. Probably not a coincidence that 8-8 Nevada is 4-1 since West became eligible. Ibrahim Djambo was scoreless and failed to get a rebound in seven minutes in Clemson's loss to FSU tonight. I think it's safe to say this season is not going the way he thought it would. That college choice is so critical for JUCO's. You've only got two years of D1 to play so you don't want to make a mistake. Looks like Djambo is transferring from Clemson. No surprise, given the season he had. I actually thought he would do okay at Clemson, but he was not effective at all. Just think of how different things might have worked out for Djambo and U of D if he had chosen the Titans last year. With only one season left, he can't afford to make another mistake in his college choice. From Twitter: Jeff Borzello @jeffborzello 3m Clemson forward Ibrahim Djambo is transferring.

Kaion Seales, 6'8" PF who went Pratt CC out of high school is now at Schoolcraft. If all our big man recruits fall through for 2015 and he qualifies academically, he could be a fall back option.

Looks like he put up nine points and four rebounds per game for Pratt CC last year. Shot 50$ from the floor and 72% from the line per this link. Seales was a favorite of mine for that last scholarship for the class of 2013. Hopefully we'll cover our big man needs with the class of 2015, but I'll probably head over to Schoolcraft to scout Seales (and Foster Smith's high school teammate Anthony Wartley Fritz) this coming season. stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2013-14/div1/players/kaionsealesujt8

Former Titan target Ibrahim Djambo is apparently transferring from Clemson to Hofstra. You gotta figure things would have worked out for him better in Detroit, but unless he shows something more at Hofstra than he did at Clemson, maybe he wouldn't have helped as much as I thought.
Adam Zagoria @adamzagoria 4m Hofstra announced the addition of 6-10 Clemson transfer Ibrahim Djambo, who must sit out this coming season.

Fredrick Edmonds was a kid we recruited from Lansing who signed with Western Kentucky. He didn't qualify and ended up at a Juco in Idaho. He has now re-committed to Western Kentucky for the class of '15. Sometimes you can keep 'em.

Former Titan recruit & Pershing star Martez Walker was suspended by Texas for misdemeanor assault. It involves a woman.
