just because ba fell on his face here doesnt mean he wont be back on his feet. nor does it mean the model of building our program with loyal alums is a mistake. i like the model.

I don't particularly disagree. I think there are two downsides, though: 1) since most coaches eventually get fired, it's likely that at some point you'll have to fire a legend, and it always seems worse; 2) more importantly, I think you have to take extra care in the hiring. Everyone wants to like and believe in the loyal alum, and there can be a tendency to overlook flaws--just like when hiring your friends and relatives. With those calls for caution, I don't have a problem with it per se. It's going back a ways, to be sure, but Lloyd Brazil and Bob Calihan did alright.

The other problem with a legacy hire is that at some point, if he is successful, he may decide to leave for the really big bucks.
When I read Wagner in any resume, I fear the Geracioti effect. This time, I just hope we get this right. Ever since the Gaither-Thomas-Briggs fiasco, we've seemed like a soap opera instead of a basketball program.

According to the other Board, it sounds like action is picking up and we may have a new coach or be losing our interim coach soon. The thing is, so many posters have ulterior motives, plus April fools day was yesterday, so I'm not sure who or what to believe. I'll just keep my ears and eyes open, trusting only those who have earned it, and hope for the best

I’ll cheat and admit that most of this info comes from The Athletic’s coaching tracker (its paywalled, subscription website). Here are note worthy coaching moves in the last few days – interesting to see what other small programs are doing, plus see how well Commish has nailed his 6 categories:
Over the weekend, Xavier went route #1 (Loyal Assistant) and gave Travis Steele the HC role. He was 10 yrs on the XU staff. Nicholls State also promoted their top assistant to HC there.
UC Riverside went route #3 in naming their new coach, although he wasn’t from power 5 conference. Drake gave the HC spot to Creighton assistant coach. (again not Big 5, but Creighton is big enough right now I’d say it counts).
Utah State went route #4 (low major) by hiring South Dakota’s HC.
Eastern Kentucky used a hybrid #3 and #2 – their new head coach was at a renown prep academy, spent last season at NC state, and now is HC at E Ky.
Maine added a female to their coaching staff, the only in D1

Not sure what it means, but of the 47 head coach openings that have happened, 34 are now filled. Info per The Athletic's tracker.
I'm not suggesting we are moving too slow, or too fast, just the facts ma'am.

I'm as impatient as you can be, but I have to keep reminding myself that it's only been 8 days since the opening was announced. That being said, I hope this is wrapped up by the end of the week!

We got off to a slow start. Vowels waited 24 days from end of season to fire BA. He did the same in 2016...firing Ray on April 1.. Then spending another 3 weeks before announcing BA. A day late and a dollar short....that's RV.

More important to get the hire right than to get it done fast, but the more time passes the more likely people are to worry. Nature of the beast. And as the past two years have shown, you can't really celebrate once the announcement is made and the press conference is held. We won't have a real idea on how good the hire is until another year at least.
I'm sure that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes at a school like ours when a change like this is made. Considering that the last two coaches have been fired with time left on their contracts, there was probably quite a bit of back and forth going on as to whether a change should be made.
