Tony Paul is a part-time employee of Oakland. He does the color commentary for TV for some games.
Coaches who are candidates talk to their friends. Mann and Washington likely are talking to people - either people now on the Oakland staff, Kampe himself, or people who know Kampe and others on the Oakland staff. So, the info gets back to Kampe or others. Then, the people at Oakland relay that information to Tony Paul. Remember that Paul has pushed Washington and Mann as confirmed interviews. Paul then throws in the disses by Isaiah Jones and you have a story.
Who has TP been talking to for the past 4 days - Oakland. So, you're getting OU propaganda packaged as a TP opinion column.
This is all being done to hurt us - at least not to help us - by discouraging other potential candidates who could present a threat to Oakland. Also, if we hire someone from "Kampe's tree", then he has his last laugh at us for not hiring him way back when.
However, when OU's mouthpiece in the News wants us to focus on Washington and Mann, it makes me wonder who else is rumored to be part of those 6 or 7 semifinalists that has them worried.

We deserve shots at us and the state we are in, especially compared with our nearest local peer Oakland - who may not be a peer Koch longer if they continue their upward ascent, leaving us in the rear view.
If we don’t like what’s being said about us, change the narrative. Don Draper said that I think. We don’t ever help ourselves in changing the narrative. This is where we are at.

Then, his column should be labeled analysis or opinion - not news. The news is that we are interviewing 6 or more candidates prior to cutting the field to a final group. The rest of it is OU propaganda written yesterday after he returned from Pittsburgh.

I think it would be clear to anyone reading the piece that is not straight "news" but rather an opinion piece that includes the reporter's analysis. Don't blame the messenger for pointing out the obvious: UDM is being poorly led and we are getting our ass kicked by Oakland on the court as well as in marketing and promotions, branding, recruiting, fan engagement, fundraising, facilities upgrades, media relations, etc.

Just highly annoyed at the situation we have put ourselves in again in such a short period of time.

And they used to disclose the potential conflicts of the author who was publishing that analysis or opinion. More importantly, rogobob77, Tony Paul represented the column as an update on the coaching search. It wasn't. It's Oakland butting in through their part-time employee Tony Paul.

He's probably the only sports print guy around town that gives any significant attention to Titans athletics. He can be very positive toward aspects of our program (see his comments in the article regarding our WBB coach). While not the problem, he could be at least a small part of the solution if we, for example, managed our media connections more effectively.

I said that his column today is dishonest. And he needs to step back and think about what he writes when he writes it. And not slant everything men's basketball around Kampe. The stuff about the challenges here could have been written after our new coach was announced.

What is dishonest in the article??
PTC, you seem to be protest too much on this. We aren’t being wronged in this article as far as I can tell. We are being pretty dang soft if we don’t like being mentioned in same article as Oakland. And if TP didn’t write about us we would have exactly zero inches of column combined from both our local papers on an annual basis.
This complaining about this article is soft, weak and insecure. Not exactly the Titan way but alas this is what our program has been reduced to.

The stuff about the challenges here could have been written after our new coach was announced. Or we could have gotten our rears in gear and had a coach before the NCAA tourney started. Rather than those on the selection committee bagging a ride to the tourney on $ that could be used elsewhere! But that is the culture that is there. Don’t do your job just milk the system!

Who on that committee is actually qualified to make this decision. Why haven’t these interviews already finished and a staff being put in place? Very poor blueprint again and again. Are these interviews on campus or at the tourney?

And then bitch about attendance being low. And then bitch about the coach some more. Stop making excuses for Tony Paul. Stand up for your school. Be a Titan fan - not a Kampe cuckold.

You sound foolish when you speak Defend “Mercy” like it’s ontological Your logic is weak We sound like a god damn hospital
We gotta change the name if we gon recruit Even if the Sisters bring a lawsuit
If I told you once, told you a million time The UD name will help us climb A bell’s gonna chime And The Mole gonna rhyme
