Now that's thinking outside the box. With the little bit I know about Cross, I already like him more than 90% of our "guessed at" candidates for our job.
They fired him because they wanted to be the next Gonzaga and his great record hadn't led to an NCAA tourney. Wow, so that's what it's like to actually dream big...

Remember the Coaching Changes and Tony Paul tweets about Andre LaFleur having no local ties.
Here is a different Coaching Changes tweet about the FIU job in response to:
Jon Quintero @coachqhoops Replying to @coachingchanges
Where are the local ties for those guys?
Coaching Changes @coachingchanges 14m14 minutes ago
In 2018, this has become less and less important. Let's say you get a "local" guy that recruits a killer freshman from Florida. Guess what? That kid ain't staying. Recruit what you can in HS, and load up JUCOs and transfers if you're outside the P6. Don't need a guy with "ties"
*****************************************
I love the consistency of opinion expressed at Coaching Changes.

Pretty sure I mentioned Scott Cross on either this board or the other. It got zero response.
Anyway, great idea Commish!

Lately I really don't read the other Board to closely and I've started to not read certain posters at all. No offense was intended

No offense was intended +1 Scout Count me among the refugees from much of the blech on the other board. It's really lost its way to negativity, know it alls, in-fighting, etc. Additional Fun with numbers... - There are 346 D1 programs with head coaches. There are 4 without head coaches. - We are sitting at 22 days now since BA was fired, an 46(!) days since our season ended - This off season, the average duration has been 14.5 days for schools to be between head coaches (again, I'm a nerd and have a spreadsheet tracking all of this). - Maryland Eastern Shore and Memphis had nearly instantaneous hires ready to announce for their openings, while Bryant has the high honors at 44 days. (Delaware St and Chicago St will eventually beat those marks whenever they get on the board with hires of their own)

I was just making a joke... and I do agree with Commish as Scott Cross would seem like a great option if local ties aren't needed.

Unless there's some scandalous story floating around UTA... it seems borderline insane that he was let go.

More conversations today with Pitino. Possibly coming to campus over the weekend. He seems legit about going to a catholic school. I think he is seeing the potential in UD!
And - just because I'm new that don't mean I ain't legit!

I'll believe it when it's plausibly reported by someone who will put their name to it, or whom I know and trust. I have no idea who you are. But as a little exercise--there ain't nothing else to talk about--and on the off-chance there's anything to this, what would people think about that kind of hire?

A soon-to-be 66 year old former head coach might possibly visit campus over the coming weekend. Doesn't sound like he is all that interested. Since we really don't know the other candidates being considered for the job here, it's hard to make a case for Pitino if there is a competent, younger candidate interested in the job. Massimino's experience at Cleveland State shows that a successful coach at a higher level D-1 program may not be able to create similar success at a mid-major near the end of the coach's career. We really don't have to get into the events at Louisville or at Hawaii to have legitimate concerns about this possibility. But, in the absence of knowledge about the alternatives available now, I don't think he should be ruled out until we know what other choices we really have at this time. As rbj pointed out above, Vowels has been very successful in keeping news about the search process under wraps, so I must also wonder why the mole has not surfaced earlier with other tidbits. Maybe, he/she could explain. I remain both interested and skeptical about the Mole's posts.
