FWIW, I attended a Career Center advisory council meeting on campus earlier this week. There were representatives from about ten employers at the table. Without exception, every reference to the University (maybe 20 total) in their discussions during the 90 minute session was “U-D.” The University employees did call the school “Detroit Mercy.” Most organizations would kill to have a brand as enduring and popular was U-D. They would love to have a logo as classy and as effective as the lower case Old English d. And we have been trying to kill both of them for almost thirty years. The other thing about school officials and others referring to us as simply Detroit Mercy is that it sounds like the name of a hospital. If someone not familiar heard the term Detroit Mercy, they would think it was part of the DMC. The lower case old English d has always been my favorite Uofd logo.

I like the logo of the red D surrounding the blue M. And the university's seal looks good. The biggest problem results from not using a hyphen between Detroit and Mercy when that short form name is used in sports or news stories. Among people who are unfamiliar with the university, "Detroit Mercy" continues to create the wrong perception that the university is Mercy of Detroit rather than the university resulting from the merger of U of D with Mercy College.

Man I was way off. I thought the M and D was the initials to Mike Davis and it stood for the University of Davis, Mike.

I said it once before a while back - when I'm wearing gear with the DM symbol and people ask what it stands for, I just tell them it's the University of Detroit, Michigan

Man, I should have stocked up on more of the U of D Alumni stuff previously. I have some hats and a few other items that feature the olde English d, and had planned on stopping by the bookstore to pick up a few more next week when I take my niece up to campus for the women's basketball camp. Wish they would have given a warning that they were going to discontinue it. I may have literally purchased my last university related clothing/wearable items, unless they come out with some items that say simply "Titans" without the name of the school. Found this on line - can't vouch for Availability. Quality, etc vintagebrand.com/l/college/t/detroit-titans

I haven't been on campus for quite a few months, but while I've not seen anything on the bookstore website specific to either UofD or Mercy College I have always seen a display in the physical bookstore for UofD / olde English d materials: mugs, caps, sweatshirts. I think almost all of them specify alumni. Unfortunately, while I've already outgrown all my original UofD stuff but I still hang onto it. Was in the bookstore last week, believe that line of merchandise is no longer available. Stopped by the bookstore last week and saw a display of University of Detroit Alumni items with the olde English D logo. Some t-shirts, some polo shirts, some sweatshirts, and some hoodies. It's a smaller display, and no longer in the prominent placement it used to have. I picked up a few things. If you want to get something, I wouldn't wait. I doubt that they will be restocking after those items are sold.

The Syracuse.com article about Coach Devendorf refers to his current job as "the Mercy" position. Also says that the record this year should be improved due to players understanding "the Mercy system".
The announcements on social media about our latest commitment featured a mix of references to Detroit Mercy, Detroit, and the University of Detroit.
And the beat goes on...

We really dodged a bullet there.

I’m at the Woodward Cruise today wearing my vintage University of Detroit t-shirt. Guy comes up to me and says he wishes he could find U-D stuff to buy. We talk for ten minutes, he’s a retired FBI agent who attended grad school at 6 and Livernois in the ‘60’s. At the end of our conversation he says “I just want something that doesn’t have ‘Mercy’ on it!”
