It is likely that we will learn more news this month because the NCAA is permitting teams to grant room and board aid to players during the summer semester without the requirement that players need be enrolled in any classes. During the permitted time periods this summer, and unlike last summer that was complicated by governmental and university COVID restrictions, the staff will be permitted to work with all players on installing the offense and defense ahead of the first day of official practice. This will make a big difference for a lot of teams, including us, who are integrating new players into their systems. For us, it makes an extra difference because the new assistant, Donnie Marsh, will get be able to acquaint the new players with his defensive concepts. I heard that Marsh starts today. I believe that this NCAA period begins June 28th. Overall, the quality of college basketball should be much better early in the schedule. Remaining slots: post player and wing(s). If the plural of wing turns out to be true, we could see another current player move to walk-on status or leave. But I expect all of this to be settled over the next two weeks. Looks like we might have screwed up by announcing Donnie Marsh when we did. He could have run the summer practices as non coaching staff and then after we saw the great job he did we could bring him aboard as an Assist. Coach

I suspect he likes getting paid and having medical benefits!

Two members of the coaching staff plus two non-members can run these workouts. A non-member would be someone like a grad assistant or a trainer who could act as a defensive player and help run these practices. So, Coaches Davis and Marsh plus two non-staff members could give instruction.

Have John Long and Earl Cureton come in to work with the team. 😁

Commish - you added Akec starting in 2022-23 instead of 2021-22 (and extended him 1 year too many).
Seems like the 2021-22 player addition portion of the offseason is finally completed. I'm guessing at this point Ottrix isn't coming (or if he is, it's as a walk on). The only question now is - do we lose a player to get down to 13 scholarships, or does AD go back to being a walk-on (& how about the official word on Matt Johnson)? Time to clear the admissions hurdle, get the guys on campus and start working on individual skills and building chemistry.

At this point, we're looking at an embarrassment of riches--the roster is really deep and there's not going to be PT for everyone. Oddly, that problem will be partially solved if some guys don't get waivers. Until we hear otherwise, I would assume that AD is going off scholarship again to keep us within the limits.

I am hearing that everyone is there except maybe Oduro who has to clear the current US-Canada border closing due to COVID. It is scheduled to open July 21st unless he can be cleared for entry earlier.

The fact that Waterman will be a freshman this season. At least eligibility-wise. They young man has played two seasons, and still has freshman eligibility. If we could keep Waterman 4 more years that would be fantastic. As it is, I'll be very happy with two. He's got a lot of development still to do, but he is a unique talent with a big potential future.

I follow this program pretty much religiously and I have no idea who Caileb Brown is. So, yeah, D2 sounds right.

Starting to think about 2022-23 & the number of available scholarships. Am I correct in assuming that Buay Koka (with a waiver), D.J. Harvey, Antoine Davis, Kevin McAdoo, Willie Isiani, and Prince Oduro are all eligible to return, if they wish, but not count vs the 13 scholarship limit since they would all be taking advantage of their extra year? If so, we then have 6 players also eligible to return that will count vs the 13 man limit (Jordan Phillips, Jeramy Shaw, Madut Akec, Noah Waterman, Jamail Pink and Kyle LeGreair). That leaves us with 7 open scholarships. Assuming he signs, Sonny Johnson will take one of those scholarships leaving us with 6 open?
Is this correct? I realize that in this day and age having zero transfers is unlikely, but I'm just trying to get a starting point for when I think about recruiting this season/off season
