Phillips is a definite NO. I believe Koka is a YES.

Phillips is a definite NO. I believe Koka is a YES. We need some bigs. By my count we have four remaining scholarships available. All the comings and goings don’t help our APR stats.

We never really got a chance to see Phillips. I saw enough of Koka to know exactly what we have there. The coaches expected a lot from Phillips last year. Phillips never hit the transfer portal and still has 2+ years left. Did he flunk or drop out?

I believe that players who use the one-time transfer exemption do not count against APR. Also, I believe that players who decide not to use their extra eligibility year do not count against APR. Noah was a 3.0 GPA student in the 2nd semester; so, he won't hurt us.

I was expecting Phillips to be a starter this year. Right now, we only have 2 forwards…Anderson and Jones. Add 6 guards and Koka. Not very balanced. At least the commitments have begun to arrive. Has anyone been down to Calihan to watch?

Has anyone been down to Calihan to watch? I was at Calihan last week, Antione Davis was working out by himself. That was the day two recruits were visiting later in the afternoon and presumably AD was there to meet them both. With four open scholarships there is still an opportunity to balance the roster, but how many decent quality big men are there still in the transfer portal? TBD.

The last two commitments..Jones and Tankersley….did not come from the portal. They are HS grads with a year of sports academy experience. This may be the route that Coach is taking this season.

Phillips has been gone for several weeks now. That was maybe a disappointment, because we'll never know if he could have helped us this season, but not a surprise.
Koka returning is maybe a surprise but overall not a bad thing. Maybe he works hard to figure out how to use his size and help a bit.
We are not turning our recruiting focus away from transfers, LarryTitan, but we have roster spots open and I like the idea of bringing in a couple youngsters (even if they are one year removed from high school).
In the end though: the freshmen are not the pieces we need to win the Championship next year and they won't and cannot be the guys MD will be counting on next season in the paint. MD knows that. We've lost some of the bigs they were after, and I have to trust we bring in some grad students or other immediately-eligible bigs who do more than fill space.

It seems like every year we are the last program in the country running around trying to purchase Stop A Flat so we can pass it off to our fan base as Run Flat Tires. If we have not already secured a couple of Foreign bigs I am afraid that the scraps left in the portal can in no stretch of the imagination resemble a good recruiting class. Some of the blind faithful fans keep addressing Championship outcomes and NCAA trips and I keep thinking we have regressed from last year.

UP - I will always believe that nothing less than a championship in this crappy league every 2 or 3 years (worst case) should be our baseline. I won't be happy until we reach that level (at least) - and throw in some first round upsets (not counting a play-in game as anything but a step to get to the Final 64). And with AD coming back for a 5th season, if we don't set our sights on winning this woeful league, then what are we? I am tired of losing and an incremental step to 17 wins in AD's final year would be a failure. It amazes me sometimes that people are willing to settle, or submit to failure. MD needs to pull some rabbits out of the hat or I will not be happy. I would hope most of you would agree with that.

83, I think the bulk of us are with you. We are indeed tired of what the program's level of success (or lack there of) has been for the past 6-8 years. And unless MD pulls some a few rabbits out of the hat at the 11th hour, it seems like the 5th season of AD will again be probably one filled with mediocrity in the win/loss column, a middling 5th or 6th place finish in the HL (best case), and fan attendance and interest low yet again (1,000 per home game?).
I DO like getting some frosh on baord, that is good for longer term development etc. But for the unfilled holes we have on this year's team, we just haven't filled them yet. I wanna believe. I do. But, fool me once, twice...

We have brought in two transfers who were 4 star recruits coming out of high school. One was a finalist for Mr. Basketball in Indiana. Overall, we have increased the size and length of our guards. We didn't know Kuol, but Davis did. We didn't know Akec, but Davis did. We didn't know Frazier, but Davis did. We didn't know Willy 4 years ago, but Davis did. We didn't know Matt Johnson, but Davis did. We need to add a couple of solid rebounders with the remaining open slots. Would I like a lot more roster stability? Yes. Would I like to know more about the roster and schedule now? Yes. However, I'm not yet willing to consign us to mediocrity before knowing the rest of the roster. After all, we play in the Horizon League.

After all, we play in the Horizon League. We did see Kuol in the NCAA tourney with his previous team and it was pretty obvious to anyone watching the game that he was a good contributor and deserved more time on his old team. Not sure if we did increase the size of our guards. So far we have lost 2 6’11’s, 2 6’8’s, a 6’7”,a 6’6” and a 6’5”. We have replace them with a 5’10” Frosh, a 6’7 to 6’8” Frosh, a 6’3” to 6’5” Frosh and a 6’7” 4 star who has played like a 3 star., and a 6’4” 4 star who has played like a 3 star. I am hoping one of the 4 stars is as good as Harvey. The players listed as lost were all key contributors and starters except for Sylla one of the 6’11”s. My lost list does not include Shaw 6’5”, Phillips 6’7” and Oduro 6’8” who we thought were going to be contributors. McAdoo and Davis will be our primary guards . So I am looking at your statement of the guards having an increase in size and length as hog wash at this point because if some of players you are referring to as guards do show enough ability to see meaningful playing time, they will have to play and defend positions other than guard. It looks like we haven’t addressed our weaknesses and are scrambling in the very last minute to become what we were which was really really average with a lot of vulnerability to an average opponent. Not sure what Davis is doing or has been doing in the off season but it doesn’t look to be working full time as the Mens Basketball Coach at UD. So at this point that hat needs to be really deep and his reach down into it needs to be long and strong.

I am hoping that three of our last 5 include Blair, Carpenter and Polk or at least 2 of the three.
