Some roster/recruiting related notes from tonight’s Titan Club dinner.
Coach Davis was meeting with recruit prospects this evening, assistant Donnie Marsh presented for the MBB program.
Tankersly was at the TC dinner, sounds like he is happy here. There was a reference to Sonny Johnson, assume he will be on next season’s roster. Ryan Hurst was referenced generically, I got the impression that his LOI was being processed. Gerald Liddell won’t be back, working out for professional basketball career. There was a suggestion Moss might be back. Stone is still enrolled at the University, his situation will be assessed after the semester is over in a couple weeks. Did not mention Anderson or Parks from the podium. Reported that Jones was transferring to Oakland, many in the crowd groaned upon hearing that development. Said a couple guys were coming to visit campus this weekend, indicated those two plus another recruiting target who would be visiting soon were from the portal, all with Detroit area ties. Said one prospect was a “Pied Piper” that could help bring along others. Acknowledged that the team needs to add some size, said recruiting prospects include someone 7-4 and a couple 6-10 post players. Alluded to the Coleman recruit from Tulane but did not mention him by name.

I can't say I'm thrilled about the prospect that Sonny Johnson isn't going to be able to suit up, or that TJ Moss transfers. But it does start to clear up the backcourt. You've basically got LeGreair, Coleman, Manciel, Tankersley, and Hurst, plus the two walk-ons (Pink and Schwanneke).
Meanwhile, we still need bigs. And if Moss and Johnson are out, we still have 4 scholarships. Maybe three if we carry Sonny in the hope he'll recover.

IMO, our last two commitments, Toatley and Fuller, suggest strongly that Sonny may not make it back. He had the same surgery as Joey Liedel. Also, an equally interesting thing to me is that I am not hearing anything definite one way or the other about Stone. This may be the earliest that we have had this much roster stability. 11 scholarship spots now appear definitely filled. Summer practice begins June 26th. Backcourt - LeGreair, Tankersley, Hurst, Manciel, Totatley, and Fuller. Front court - Coleman, Tchikou, Jankovic, Allen-Tovar, and Kuac. My guess is that we will add one more scholarship player to each category. |

Backcourt - LeGreair, Tankersley, Hurst, Manciel, Totatley, and Fuller.
Front court - Coleman, Tchikou, Jankovic, Allen-Tovar, and Kuac.
Eight of the eleven are transfers, I guess that's a sign of the times. Hopefully all those transferring to UDM are eligible to play at the beginning of the season!

Backcourt: LeGreair, Tankerlsey, Hurst, Manciel, and Toatley Front Court: Coleman, Tchikou (needs waiver), Jankovic, Allen-Tovar, and Kuac. Walk-ons: Pink, Schwannecke Now, here's where it gets interesting. Unknowns/Question Marks: Johnson (injury status), Stone (academic status), Fuller (eligibility as 5th year senior who has already transferred once), and Unknown late transfer(s). |

I assume this means the six transfers (Coleman, Jankovic, Kuac, Manciel, Tchikou, & Allen-Tovar) have the academic credentials to be admitted to UDM.
We're certainly in need of talent and experience at the PG position; hopefully PJ Fuller and Donovann Toatley will be admitted to the university and available at the start of the season. It would be great to have both however, at least one of these players on the roster is critical to our success.
