A big clarification having to do with the additional year of eligibility, scholarship #'s and transferring. So, it sounds like players receiving the extra year of eligibility and staying at their current school (not transferring), will NOT count against the 13 total scholarships allowed (as long as the player in question was in his final year of eligibility) Very interesting..... So does this mean someone like Thompson who would potentially exhaust eligibility this year will now be eligible through next year? I wonder if this also creates a caveat for players running up against the 6 year time limit for eligibility...... Could we potentially have a team next year that brings back Thompson, Fraser, Johnson, Calipari, Rose? We could conceivably have an 18 player roster?

Just GUESSING based on what was tweeted - I think it would apply to ANY player who is a senior this year or would have exhausted his eligibility this year. Therefore the 6 year limit would be suspended in this case. If I read any further clarification, I will post it.

The NCAA press release is very vague - it doesn't even give the info that's in the tweet

IF the way the tweets read are accurate this could potentially give an advantage to mid-major programs. The mid-majors who tend to make runs in the tournament are senior heavy teams. This could potentially allow some mid-majors to be very heavy with seniors and super-seniors. Will be interesting to see how the penalty of using a scholarship vs not on the transfer market will influence major teams.

I'm not sure even to whom all this applies. Does AD now have 3 years of eligibility left rather than two?

He's not a senior/in his final year of eligibility, so I don't think he's included in this. I'm thinking he'd be a senior when (potentially) Thompson, Fraser, Johnson, Calipari, Rose are also "special" seniors using up their extra year of eligibility

And to complicate matters, here's a different interpretation that seems to ignore the "seniors/final year of eligibility" part

That's what I think, but it's not entirely clear to me. That would also make the decision dumber, if you ask me. Why does it matter if the year you "lost" was just your final year, or an earlier year? It's still a year lost.

It looks like, though, we definitely get two years (if they want them) from Thompson, Kuol, Frazer, and Johnson. That's not bad.

More info. Sounds like everyone gets an extra year. No limit on scholarships next year only. Seniors won't count vs next year's numbers (only). After next year, it's back to 13 scholarships “So let me break it down this way: If all our seniors come back we could, by the rule, have (over 13) scholarship guys next season. That will not affect the 2021s getting here (now keeping them happy is another thing). Seniors who come back won’t count against your 13,” a high-major coach said. “The next year, everyone is back at 13 no matter what, but you have juniors who get an extra year. So technically no one has open scholarships that year, it makes sense. Add on top of guys are able to transfer and play right away. You basically will have a whole graduating class of college guys in 2022 that will have an extra year to use which will limit available scholarships for that class.” palmettopreps.rivals.com/news/what-coaches-are-saying-ncaa-eligibility-ruling
