Milwaukee and Cleveland State brought in several similar players last year and exceeded pre-season fears/expectations. The HL can be like the Island of Misfit toys. I can always hope that this group of players can play good man-to-man defense and will win the close ones. Last year, we chased stats. This year, I hope we chase W's. With some luck on eligibility, injuries, and the bounces of the ball, this year, we could exceed expectations. Cleveland State's roster last year wasn't the same as our current situation. Among the transfers they brought in were Drew Lowder, who had averaged 14 ppg at Holy Cross. They also hit a home run with that Tristan kid, who had played for two Big 12 teams before landing in Cleveland. More importantly, they also brought back several players who had multiple years in the CSU program and had contributed to some very good teams. We're not bringing in anyone who has averaged double figures on the D1 level, and the guys we're bringing back (Tank, Pink, Kyle) combined to average about four ppg last season. Milwaukee certainly exceeded expectations. There two leading scorers were a JUCO transfer and a D2 transfer (Kentrell Pullian from Eastern New Mexico University and Benthon Harbor High School), and some of their returnees stepped up a bit. I can envision a scenario in which Manciel and Coleman become good scores on this level and a guy like Tankersly makes a big jump from last season. You're right about the state of the HL, and that gives hope to the idea that if we mesh together and some guys develop, we can be a pleasant surprise. I disagree that we "chased stats" last year.

Are Phillips and Moss still hanging out in the transfer portal? Is there any interest in them from anyone? Is Stone in summer school or has he returned to Australia? I think our recruiting woes are a direct result of a low energy approach by our staff. A head coach who hardly leaves campus,; assistants selected from the good old boys club and a son who follows Dad from job to job. All it would take is one young, hungry assistant with local ties to boost the recruiting picture. There is no reason why Youngstown, Cleveland, Wright State should out recruit us. I look forward to coach Davis moving on. I have no idea the energy level in which our staff recruits, mostly because the University public relations strategy is to run in stealth mode. I know the staff is out recruiting, and I believe that they attend the tournaments and camps that other coaches attend, but who knows for sure? Other programs post on their Twitter and Instagram accounts when their coaches are on the road recruiting ("Our staff will be in Georgia today looking for future Panthers") but I have never seen that kind of post from U-D. Respectfully, the "young, hungry, assistant with local ties" fix is overblown. Jermaine Jackson Sr. was the epitome of that type and it was a disaster. BA had that same pedigree, so you had two guys like that. The end result was probably the worst two years in program history, despite them taking over a team with a winning record. The local ties seems to lose impoartance when the State of Michigan isn't putting out the talent it used to.

Yeah, two of their best players last year were Spider Johnson of Detroit and Drew Lowder of Ann Arbor.

I poor workman always blames his tools, there are many schools with worst facilities then Detroit, and there are many worst cities and schools that never get players a look by the NBA. Look no further than St Peters run a few years ago. UDM need new a new and fresher face on it's men's basketball program. I don't know of any program that has the U-D combination of poor facilities, lack of cash resources, small enrollment, branding confusion, lack of fan/alumni support, and incompetence/apathy from University administration, yet still manages to win consistently. St. Peter's is a small Catholic University, like us, but there are major differences. They completed a major renovation of their arena (which was built in 1975) in 2021. The renovation was kicked off by a 5 million dollar donation from a former player. They are also located in the NY/NJ area, which still turns out a lot of high school basketball talent. I think the Titans need more than just a fresh face.

Moss, Phillips, Stone? Anyone? Phillips has already quit twice. Why would you want him back a 3rd time? If Fuller gets eligible, then there are only 2 scholarships for which we do not know the players. Moss is in the portal. To my knowledge, Stone is not in the portal.

Yeah, I would say that the staff has moved on from Phillips, which is probably for the best. Too bad he couldn't get it together; he was able to contribute on this level. He scored in double figures five times in the first six games of the season, and in his single digit game in that stretch he grabbed seven rebounds against Boston College. It looked like he had some good basketball in him. He could be a guy like recent transfers Fraser, McAdoo, etc. Guys who hit the portal but never played college basketball again.

Show me where I said that I wanted a return for Phillips. My inquiry is for information only.

Show me where I said that I wanted a return for Phillips. My inquiry is for information only. OK. Phillips has already quit here twice. In a thread about what players we will add to our roster this coming 2023-24 season, I wrongly assumed that you were looking for information about the possible return of any of the three players you mentioned.

I heard that the Titans MBB staff recently got involved with an international prospect, I believe a forward. Too late to get him enrolled this Fall due to complications that come with foreign recruits, but there is a possibility of a second semester roster addition. Don't know anything else but we'll see what develops.

Don't know anything else but we'll see what develops. I've noticed a few schools adding foreign players in that situation this summer, and I have read that it can be a complicated process bringing them into the program. I am glad to see that the Titans are investigating that source of players. If we can add a player in the second semester, that will hopefully ease some of the recruiting pressure next spring/summer.

The trick is to bring in a foreign player when he's young, not a grad transfer. Too much work for one year or one semester. I understand that the player we are working on now would be a freshman.

Wondering if we were able to get him enrolled? Another good Frosh to go with Tankersley, Hurst and Oaks would sure help to brighten our future and might signal that Mike Davis is starting to get it!
