This just came out - up to date as of Sat morning Looking at this vs the actual Conference standings: At the worst we are one place lower than we should be, and Oakland, the team that is below us in the actual standings, beat us 3 of 4 times this season. Yeah, the system does seem kinda random and the fact that the actual "formula" is secret only adds to that. But I say just win your games and prove they were wrong - earn their respect by beating them

Our good run of late has been against all teams not named Wright State. They scare me the most as I’m not sure we have an answer for their big men. Alas, play and win the games in front of ya... They are good, but NKU proved them not to be invincible. Plus we have Brandon and Waterman playing well versus not playing back in December when he hosted them. Remember that we were in the second game until a bad call followed by a technical foul on the coach in reaction to that.

Oakland loses in 2OTs tonight to end the season 10-10, and the Titans went 10-6. Is that enough to pass them in the seeding standings?

And without playing a game on Sunday, we have moved up to #146 in Ken Pom and #166 in the NCAA NET Rankings. And, in Ken Pom, the HL has moved to the #18 ranked conference, 0.21 points ahead of the Sun Belt and 0.59 points behind the Colonial.

And without playing a game on Sunday, we have moved up to #146 in Ken Pom and #166 in the NCAA NET Rankings. I think that this is the first time since the 2013 season that we have been ranked in the top half of D-1 schools this late in the season by Ken Pom, Sagarin, RPI, or NET. Hopefully this is a sign that the program has turned around, and not just a blip (a la 1985). We need to get most (all?) of our key players back, and have a couple more good recruiting years.

The Titans inched up to #164 in NET with last night's games. CSU, however, inched up further, to 163.
Just passing the time until Thursday evening.

In what I thought would be a good year for the HL, in fact the bottom has fallen out.
In Conference RPI, the Horizon ranks 31st of 32 conferences, ahead of only the MEAC. In NET, the Horizon ranks 28th. Bart Torvik's computer system ranks the Horizon 27th. Sagarin has us at 24.

There's absolutely no way to salvage this lousy Conference at this point. All the opportunities to turn it into something special are long gone. Our last heyday was the Butler run and that will probably never happen to any of our league members again. When nobodies and newbies like UIC and NKU are looking to get out...what does that tell you about the Horizon?
The only problem with being ranked so low is that if we get it together and actually win the Tourney (finally) this year, we could be facing a Play-In Game. But maybe winning a Play-In Game would indeed be better than earning a 15 Seed? I don't know anymore; the opportunity for a 10-12# seed and the chance to make noise is not in the cards for us until we make the switch to a better league.
So, I'm at the point where I hope that Cleveland, Wrong State and everyone else has major weaknesses that make them vulnerable and that Waterman, Koka, Harvey and possibly Phillips can step it up and give us what we need to win this stupid league.
Beyond this season, we're gonna have to wait and find out what a new President wants to do with Athletics (drive the bus, or just be there), complete the Road to a Championship Fundraising/Investment Process, complete the other Fundraiser for the Soccer Complex, and THEN find out if we have enough remaining monetary support available, along with the will and momentum to pursue the MVC or A-10.

So here we are sitting with a lame duck president as the College Athletic World is going through a huge conference realignment and that will be our excuse and we’re sticking to it. Could we possibly have the foresight to set up a Conference Realignment Committee and thus be able to at least throw our hat in the ring. Looks to me like we are setting up yet another excuse to fail. It looks like we are comfortable with failure as long as we have an excuse. The decision not to make a decision is a decision!

This is quite probably the last big shake up. After this, almost all the top conferences will have 14-16 members--there's not much more room for expansion for a while. I noted in another post elsewhere a week or two, that while the MVC may be unlikely to take us, I'd like to think we were pulling out all the stops to get consideration.

I am hoping that we are making every effort to improve but I have been feeling for awhile now that the talk of improvement is there just as a talking point when asking for more donations. There has to be a point in the very near future where this University quits with the woe is me approach, quits begging and starts to make decisions that lead to improvement and not deletion of status. I really want to be wrong on this!

I do agree with the title of this thread. The Horizon League really is rank. upbasketballfan wrote: There is a published blueprint on how to make it work here. It is titled The Cinderella Strategy by Honaker and Logan.

It is titled The Cinderella Strategy by Honaker and Logan. Butler had leadership and foresight. I think we are lacking in both categories. We have managed to become really great at begging and lost our way in working our way to a goal. We keep trying to job things out rather than using our resources to accomplish a goal. We have a Business school and a Marketing Dept. Give this to them and cut them loose. What are we doing about our lame duck President? I hope not sitting on our hands waiting for him to step down. We need to be proactive not comatose!
