What to watch on 11/12.
8:30 PM Larry Bird vs #7 Rick Mount. BTN. Interesting instate match up between the Sycamores and the Boilermakers.
11:30 PM #4 Rollie Massimino vs #2 John Wooden. ESPN2. Top five match up between the Wildcats and Bruins. Looks like a Final Four game.

Friday, November 12
Horizon Oakland 56, Oklahoma State 55. Oakland pulled off the big upset. OU was in it all the way, leading for much of the game, and Jalen Moore knocked down a couple free throws with 8 seconds left for one final lead. OSU final attempt was off. So apparently, Horizon teams can beat Cowboys.
Marshall 96, Wright State 88. WSU was down by 11 early, came back to be tied at the half, and worked its way to an 8 point margin about midway through the second half. But the Raiders couldn't hold it. Six Marshall players scored in double figures, enough to offset 37 points from Grant Basile and 25 from Tanner Holden. These are the type of games HL teams need to win if the league is to regain its footing as a top 15 conference.
UNC-Greensboro 70, Northern Kentucky 69 (OT). Trevon Faulkner missed a jumper on the last possession in overtime, and UNC-Greensboro escaped Covington with a road win. Faulkner finished with 28 points. Chris Brandon had 4 points and 5 rebounds off the bench, and Adrian Nelson had 7 points and 11 rebounds. These are the type of games HL teams need to win if the league is to regain its footing as a top 15 conference.
#10 Kentucky 100, Robert Morris 60. All Kentucky.
Wisconsin 72, Green Bay 34. This was bad from the start. Cem Kirceman led Green Bay with five--that's 5-points.
Titan Non-Conference Opponents Michigan State 90, Western Michigan 46. Gabe Brown led the Spartans with 17 points, and Joey Hauser added 12 points and 12 rebounds in the rout.
Georgia State 83, Northeastern 64. This one was tied at halftime, but all Georgia State in the second half. Corey Allen had a super game, with 25 points on 10-19 shooting (including 5-8 from three), 6 assists, 0 turnovers. The Panthers are 2-0, with Corey averaging 22.5 ppg. Our upcoming opponent Northeastern drops to 0-2. Chris Dougherty had 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Xavier 73, Kent State 59. Playing their season opener, the Golden Flash led by 10 early and by 5 at the half. But Xavier gradually wore them down in the second half. Junior Sincere Carry (now there's a name!) led Kent with 18 points. Paul Scruggs had 23 for Xavier (2-0).
Other Games of No Interest Eastern Michigan 103, Illinois State 98 (2OT). The Eagles may be OK. They gave Indiana--which obliterated Northern Illinois tonight , all the Hoosiers could handle on Tuesday, and tonight beat Illinois State, which beat a solid UNC-Wilmington team earlier this week. Remember that the Eagles also took out Oakland in a charity exhibition. Monty Scott led with 28 points.
#2 UCLA 86, #4 Villanova 77 (OT). The night's top game was just too late for the Commish to watch, but it sounds like it didn't disappoint, at least in suspense. It was close and the lead went back and forth. UCLA held Villanova scoreless for the final five and a half minutes of regulation to get to the extra period. The Bruins got a narrow lead in the overtime and then went 10-10 from the foul line in the final 45 seconds to clinch. Johnny Juzang had 25 points and Jaime Jaquez had 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
#3 Kansas 88, Tarleton State 62. #7 Purdue 92, Indiana State 67. #8 Baylor 87, Incarnate Word 60. #9 Duke 82, Army 56.
#11 Illinois 92, Arkansas State 53. #13 Oregon 86, SMU 63. #14 Alabama 104, South Dakota State 88. #15 Houston 79, Rice 46.
#17 Ohio State 84, Niagara 74. #19 North Carolina 94, Brown 87.
#22 Auburn 93, Louisiana-Monroe 65. #25 Virginia 73, Radford 52.
Northwestern 95, High Point 60. Northwestern dropped 61 second half points on Tubby's team. Minnesota 73, Western Kentucky 69. Chicago State 67, SIU-Edwardsville 56. Chicago State starts out 2-0 for the first time since joining D-1 in 1984.
Boston College 85, Holy Cross 55. Virginia Tech 77, Navy 57. West Virginia 74, Pittsburgh 59.
Texas A&M 81, Abilene Christian 80 (2OT). Abilene got a 3 pointer from Mahki Morris to tie at the buzzer of the first overtime period, but A&M got a three from Hassan Diara at the buzzer of the second overtime to win by a point.
BYU 66, San Diego State 60. Utah State 85, Richmond 74.
Ottawa 72, Denver 71. Always fun when an NAIA team beats a D-1 team. Ottawa--which is in Surprise, Arizona--led by 15 at halftime and had just enough to hold on.
Salisbury 91, Delaware State 78. Even more fun when a D-3 team beats a D-1 team, even if it is Delaware State. The Hornets haven't had a winning season since going 15-14 in 2012, and are 19-95 over the past four years. The Hornets did beat D-3 Cairn University in their opener earlier this week.
Yale 91, Massachusetts 71. Matthue Cotton, which sounds like the name of someone who attended Yale in 1746, had 23 as the Eli knocked off UMass. Princeton 66, South Carolina 62. A nice night for the Ivies.
Mid Major Win of the Day: Furman 80, Louisville 72 (OT). The Paladins scored 12 straight points--the final five in reggulation and the first 7 in the OT, to upset Louisville. Mike Bothwell led Furman with 30 points.

Mid major near miss upset of the day candidate…
UNC really had their hands full with Brown, AT the Dean Dome too. Brown led for long stretches of the game. Was led by a superior effort by UD Jesuit grad Daniel Friday who was fearless and had 21 points, 5 assists and 4 boards.

The game of the night was EMU vs Illinois State. I know because I was there with my a niece and two nephews. I'll have some thoughts in the EMU thread.

What to watch on 11/13.
6:00 PM Dan Roundfield vs Dave Corzine. Fox Sports 2. A chance to scout CMU when they travel to DePaul. 10:00 PM #5 Texas vs #1 Gonzaga. ESPN 2. What a lucky break for Gonzaga. Mark Few's suspension ends just in time for the Texas game.

Milwaukee loses to E. Kentucky tonight, CSU falls to Ohio, YSU wins by a bunch, UIC nips Valpo. The preseason favorites have not impressed, some of the teams projected for the middle of the pack have some nice wins. Looks like the Horizon might be a wide open race.

Saturday, November 13:
Horizon Toledo 81, Detroit 73. Much better. Still shows up in the right hand column.
Ohio 67, Cleveland State 56. I thought the Horizon would be much better this year.
UIC 74, Valparaiso 70 (OT). Solid road win for UIC. UIC let Dayton get away from them on Tuesday, and they almost did the same today, as Valpo held the Flames scoreless for the last 4 minutes of regulation, and scored 7 straight points to force OT. But the Flames scored on the first possession of the extra period and led the rest of the way. Demaria Franklin had 23 points and 11 rebounds for UIC. Michigan State and Macomb refugee Thomas Kithier led Valpo with 28 and 11.
Eastern Kentucky 77, Milwaukee 71. Pat Baldwin had 19 points and 11 rebounds, but he needed 20 shots to do it. DeAndre Gholston had 22 points but needed 21 shots, while Josh Thomas added a much more efficient 23 points on 12 shots. But the rest of the team scored just 7 points. EKU had a much more balanced attack (Devontae Blanton led the team with 12 points), opened a big early lead, and cruised home. EKU is a solid team but this is still a bad loss for Milwaukee.
Youngstown State 97, SE Missouri State 79. Tevin Olison paced the Penguins with 27 points.
Titan Non-Conference Opponents DePaul 99, Central Michigan 66. DePaul broke open a close game with a 23-2 run midway through the second half.
Hofstra 73, Duquesne 63. Hofstra built an 18 point halftime lead and held on. Zach Cook led the Dutchmen with 29 points and 7 rebounds.
Mississippi State 86, Montana 49. It was 42-16 at halftime.
Some Other Games #6 Michigan 77, Prairie View 49.
#1 Gonzaga 86, #5 Texas 74. Drew Timme had 37 for the Zags, who led by 20 at the half. #9 Duke 67, Campbell 56. #12 Memphis 90, North Carolina Central 51. #16 Arkansas 86, Gardner-Webb 69. #21 Maryland 68, Vermont 57. Vermont led at the half. #24 Connecticut 89, Coppin State 54.
Notre Dame 68, Cal-State Northridge 52. A relatively late season opener for the Irish. Iona 90, Harvard 87 (OT). Rutgers 48, Merrimack 35. Not a halftime score. NC State 77, Colgate 74. Colgate lost a chance for the upset with Nelly Cummings fouled Dereon Seabron with the score tied and 2 seconds left. Seabron hit the free throws.
Cincinnati 73, Georgia 68. UIC transfer Braelen Bridges had 24 points and 8 rebounds for Georgia, to no avail. USC 76, Temple 71. Central Florida 95, Miami (Fl) 89. San Francisco 65, Davidson 60. Loyola 89, Florida Gulf Coast 77.
UC-Irvine 58, Boise State 50. New Mexico State 77, UTEP 71. UNLV 55, California 52.
Belmont 81, Evansville 43. Southern 73, Tulane 70. A Louisiana upset. St. Thomas 91, St. Francis (NY) 73. St. Thomas (1-1) picks up its first win as a D-1 team. Anders Nelson scored 30.
Carver College Follies: Are old friends from Carver Bible are back in action, traveling wherever they're needed for a team needing the sugariest of cupcakes. They lost today to Nicholls, 101-44. Yesterday they lost to Nicholls 120-52. Yes, they played each other two days in a row. Really, Nicholls?
Hawaii-Hilo 87, Northern Colorado 79 (OT). Another win by a D-2 team over a D-1 team. Bakersfield 85, Life Pacific 50. Talk about a university name that sounds like an insurance company!
Howard 76, Bradley 64. Howard Bradley sounds like a dull accountant. UMass-Lowell 59, Dayton 58. Nice win for the Riverhawks. Wagner 58, VCU 44. Wagner won the boards 42-24, and with that the game. Alex Morales led the upset with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: Dartmouth 69, Georgetown 60. The Ivies are rolling up early season victories over high major teams.

What to watch for November 15:
6:30 PM Bowling Green at #19 Ohio State BTN How good can the Buckeyes be this season?
7:00 PM #10 Illinois at Marquette. Fox Sports 1. Probably the game of the night. Lou Henson and Al McGuire are probably up in Heaven with money on the game.
9:00 PM Providence at Wisconsin. Fox Sports 1. Good early season test for two teams with questions about how good they are.

What to watch for November 15: 6:30 PM Bowling Green at #19 Ohio State BTN How good can the Buckeyes be this season? The Buckeyes finally decided to put a game together tonight vs Bowling Green. They looked like Wyoming kicking our asses the other night. They'll need more games like that to compete in a strong B1G.
