Monday, November 15:
Horizon
Denver 63, IUPUI 47. Remember, Denver lost to Ottawa College of Arizona over the weekend.
Ohio 85, Robert Morris 71. Ohio is 2-0 in the Horizon League race.
Titan Non-Conference Opponents Central Michigan 62, Eastern Illinois 61. After trailing by 13 at the half, the Chips (1-2) won on a buzzer layup by Jermaine Jackson, Jr. Louisville 77, Navy 60. Louisville (2-1) held Navy (1-2) to 3-21 from behind the arc.
Other Games #1 Gonzaga 84, Alcorn State 57. #2 UCLA 100, Long Beach State 79. #9 Baylor 89, Nicholls 60. Guess those two games against Carver Bible didn't get Nicholls ready for Baylor. Marquette 67, #10 Illinois 66. Marquette held the Illini to one point in the final 5:48, and rallied from 8 down to win. #15 Ohio State 89, Bowling Green 58. OSU (3-0) looked like a top 25 team for the first time in 3 games.
Providence 63, Wisconsin 58. LSU 75, Liberty 58. An easier night for LSU (3-0) than many predicted. Darius Day scored 26.
Belmont 95, Furman 89 (OT). A really good game between two of the best mid-majors. It's quite possible to imagine both these teams on the at-large bubble in March, and this game may mean a lot.
Carver College Follies: Kennesaw State 117, Carver 58.
Mid-Major Win of the Day: UMKC 80, Missouri 66. Evan Gilyard scored 28 for the 'Roos.

What to watch for 11/16.
6:00 PM USC at Florida Gulf Coast ESNPU. Significant because former UFGC coach Andy Enfield brings his USC squad to the home gym of his former school for a game. Nice opportunity for FGC.
6:00 PM Miami at Florida Atlantic. CBS Sports Network. Another high major giving an instate mid major a marquee home date. Michigan, are you listening?
7:00 PM Creighton at Nebraska Fox Sports 1. Gavitt Game.
8:00 PM Ralph Sampson vs #15 Elvin Hayes. ESPN. Virginia isn't ranked, but this should still be a good match up with Houston.
8:30 PM #18 North Carolina at College of Charleston CBSSN. Another high major giving an instate mid major a break. EDIT: Ever have one of those instances where you have a brain cramp and think for a crucial moment that Charleston is in North Carolina? Yeah, I did.
9:00 PM John Morton vs #4 Rumeal Robinson FS1. Gavitt game and rematch of the 1989 title game. Also a rare chance to see Ankle Breakin' Bryce Aiken in action.

Tuesday, November 16
Horizon #6 Purdue 96, Wright State 52. All the early returns are saying that the Horizon isn't nearly as good as I thought it would be this year. Michigander Trevion Williams had 20 points and 13 boards for Purdue (3-0).
Purdue-Fort Wayne 65, Austin Peay 60. All the Purdues are winning tonight.
Texas A&M CC 65, IUPUI 59. It's gonna beupui a long season for IUPUI (0-4). BJ Maxwell had 14 for the Jags.
Cleveland State 75, Edinboro 61. The Fighting Scots were unable to fend off the Viking invaders.
UIC 91, Trinity 50. The Trinity Trolls. Good nickname.
Titan Non-Conference Opponents Northeastern 49, Boston U. 48. Northeastern (1-2) picked up its first win, led by Chris Doherty with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Iona 84, Hofstra 72. Jalen Ray led Hofstra's effort with 20 points.
Other Games Seton Hall 67, #4 Michigan 65. The Big East is rolling in the Gavitt Games. Hunter Dickinson led Michigan with 18 in an exciting game.
#5 Villanova 100, Howard 81. #7 Duke 92, Gardner Webb 52.
#11 Memphis 90, St. Louis 74. #13 Kentucky 80, Mt. St. Mary's 55. #14 Alabama 73, South Alabama 68. #15 Houston 67, Virginia 47. Looks like Virginia doesn't really have it this year.
#18 North Carolina 94, Charleston 83. Armando Bacat with 24 point and 12 rebounds for UNC (3-0). #25 Southern Cal 78, Florida Gulf Coast 61.
Creighton 77, Nebraska 69. Big East leads the Gavitt Games 4-0.
Notre Dame 70, High Point 61. Paul Atkinson had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Irish (2-0) beat Tubby (1-2). Richmond 94, Georgia State 78. Tough night for State's Corey Allen, with 7 points on 3-11 shooting. Loyola 92, Chicago State 56. Loyola (3-0) celebrates its next move up. Chicago State (2-1) has never opened 3-0, and won't this year.
Middle Tennessee 76, Winthrop 65. These programs both usually put together a good product. MTSU is 3-0, Winthrop 2-1. James Madison 79, Eastern Kentucky 78. Madison (3-0) nipped EKU (3-1) on a Charles Falden put-back at the buzzer. Concordia 82, Incarnate Word 78. What was the WAC thinking in inviting Incarnate Word (0-3) to join?
Mid Major Win of the Day: BYU 81, #12 Oregon 49. Cleveland State's loss to BYU looks a little better after the Cougars (3-0) shellack the Ducks (2-1). I don't really think of BYU as a mid-major, but they're in the WCC, and there weren't many other candidates tonight.

What to watch for 11/17:
7:00 PM Michigan State vs Butler Fox Sports 1. State is a three point favorite in Hinkle.
8:00 PM NC State vs Oklahoma State CBSSN. Nice battle between power five conference teams.
9:00 PM St. John's at Indiana FS1. Second of the Gavitt Games on tap for tonight. It will be a nice win for whoever gets it.

So....MSU plays at Hinkle but won't come to Calihan. While we play AT (the other) MSU tonight in a game that will be plenty difficult but draw us no exposure.
Loyola (our whipping boy for many years) moves to the MVC, then to A-10.
Time to stop being a nobody in a nobody league. Time to step up and start winning some ballgames. Playing as a team. Passing the ball. Helping on defense. Boxing out.
I miss Perry Watson. Hoping that MD can take a scattered group of kids from all over (some here just for a year or two) and turn them into a TEAM pretty damn soon. And go to the NCAA Tourney this year.
And Repeat and Rinse a few years in a row.
And get out of this crappy league.
And become relevant again. To the point where everyone wants to come to Calihan and watch Detroit's Team play; and the local kids playing in their backyards wanna be "Twon Davis" and go to U-D.

I figure the game thread usually covers the relevant information.

Wednesday, November 17:
Horizon Mississippi 77, Detroit 64. Don't look now, but AD is just 20-59 (33.9%) from the floor this year, and 7-24 (29.2%) from three. I do think the Titans looked a little bit better tonight.
Oakland 80, Toledo 59. We know who is playing the best ball in the Horizon, don't we? Let's see, Toledo beat us by 8, and lost to OU by 21... I'm not yet convinced that Oakland is going to win 25 games, but if they do, they've already got a couple of real good wins to impress the selection committee. Jamal Cain had 29 points and 17 rebounds. Texas-San Antonio 60, IUPUI 57. The Jags fall to 0-5. BJ Maxwell led their effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Other Games Michigan State 73, Butler 52. Ypsilanti's Ty Groce led Butler (3-1) with 15 points and 8 rebounds, but the team game was MSU (2-1) all the way.
#2 UCLA 98, North Florida 63. #8 Texas 62, Northern Colorado 49. #9 Baylor 92, Central Arkansas 47.
#16 Arkansas 93, Northern Iowa 80. #23 UConn 93, Long Island 40. The Blackbirds Sharks sure could have used Jack Ballantyne tonight.
Oklahoma State 74, North Carolina State 68. That Oakland win over Oklahoma State (4-1) is looking pretty darn good. NC State falls to 3-1.
Stanford 74, Valparaiso 60. Air Force 61, Texas Southern 57. Texas Southern is 0-4, all on the road, keeping the Mike Davis tradition alive.
VCU 48, Vanderbilt 37. Not a halftime score. Rhode Island 57, Boston College 49. Rhody is 3-0, BC 3-1. Despite Rhody's win, it was another awful night for the A10--see below... Lipscomb 78, Dayton 59. Wow. Drexel 78, St. Joe's 75. A nice win for Drexel (2-1). James Butler with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Delaware 85, La Salle 82 (2OT). Another upset loss for the A10.
Indiana 76, St. John's 74. The Big 10 went 2-0 in the Gavitt Games tonight, cutting the Big East's lead to
Mid-Major Win of the Day: George Mason 71, #20 Maryland 66. Despite the Gavitt wins, the Big Ten's very bad, horrible, no good week continues. Mason (4-0) never trailed after halftime. D'Shawn Schwartz led the upset with 24 points and 9 rebounds.

What to watch for 11/18. Lots of early televised games today, thanks to some early season MTEs.
2:00 PM #22 Bob Lanier vs Boise State ESPN2. Chance to see the ranked Bonnies of St. Bonaventure in action. Things I learned today: St. Bonaventure has an enrollment of only around 1800. Prior to this season, the last time the Bonnies were ranked was 1971.
3:00 PM Green Bay vs UNC-Greensboro CBSSN. Opportunity to scout the Phoenix.
6:30 PM #19 Ohio State at Xavier FS1. Gavitt Games. Hard to believe fact: First meeting between OSU and X since the 2007 NCAA tournament.
7:00 PM Marquette vs Ole Miss ESPN2. Can Marquette keep the momentum of their win over the Illini?
8:30 PM Rutgers at DePaul FS1 Gavitt Games. First real test for DePaul's new regime and rebuilt roster.
10:30 PM Arizona State at Smokey Gaines CBSSN. San Diego State is actually favored by 8.

New Mexico State beat Davidson 75-64 in a game that stood out for me due to the Michigan connections.
Former Spartan and Clarkston native Foster Loyer played for Davidson, scoring 16 points.
Detroit native and traveling man Donnie Tilman started for the Aggies and scored 14. Tillman, who left the state to finish his high school career at a prep school in Nevada, is on his third college team. He stayed out West, though, having previously played at Utah and UNLV.
